I like getting gift certificates, and there can be more thought involved than there is with just cash. If you give someone a gift certificate to an electronics store, it says I know you like electronics, but I don't know exactly what you'd want.

This is good for the hard to buy for person. I personally think they are kind of impersonal. I prefer to buy gifts, but I recognize their necessity.

Just a step up from money really. I don't like getting something like this, so therefore, I don't like to give someone else this type of gift either. It's too impersonal.

They're good for only a certain amount of money but can assist in the purchasing of an expensive item.
