This would be one of my favourite presents.

I bought a framed print of a Monet painting for my sister once and that was only because she had pointed it out specifically to me sometime beforehand. For the most part, I would not select any kind of artwork for a person because I think this is a highly personal thing that should not involve any guesswork. So, yes if you know exactly what the person would like to have go for it. As far as this being a good item to select for women, I do think many – but not all – women might appreciate this kind of gift more than a man would tend to. But that’s just a guess.
