I have always enjoyed downloading a different types of music files from the WWW. I like midi files, but the midis are much better when I convert them to WAV files using midi to WAV conversion software. The WAV files then can be encoded into MP3s using the proper encoding software. The quality of these converted files is amazing. Also, many midi files are public domain music, so there are no legal issues as well.

Downloading music is great---if you are fond of the tunes sung by trojans and viruses as they serenade your hard drive into full compliance.

It's like having the ultimate customized radio station. Not into mainstream crap? Want to find new bands and artists that you'll never hear on the major radio stations? Then downloading music is the only option. I just wish there was an affordable way to compensate the artists for each download without the record companies getting a penny.

We are in the 21st century and people have realized that technology is available at their fingertips. Artists are making plenty of money off of concerts, videos, interviews, commericials, etc... Another $18 off 1 of their CD's is not going to make a difference. Yes, the artists work hard to sell their albums, but if I can get a song for free, there is no way that I am going to buy a CD with very few good songs on it. The record company has nothing to worry about.

Oh Wow...mixed feelings on this one. For years I have downloaded songs that I really like. I don't burn them to CD, and I don't go distributing...I just listen. As an artist in the making, I do see the record label's side of this TO A POINT. But now they're going after consumers...that's going a bit too far. When I finally land a record deal, I will not whine about someone downloading the music. I just ask that if you like it, you respect my music, and promote it whenever you can. Many artists feel this way. Just don't step on their toes. Know when you're going too far. And respect the artists who make the music you love. If they don't want you to download it, don't. If they don't care, use your own discretion. Music will always be here..regardless of what the record companies do.

Definately a big part of what I use my computer for. Instead of buying a $15 CD at the store that only has a few songs that I like listening to, I can download the music that I want off of the computer for FREE.
gmanod 05/06/2003
If this is wrong then why doesn't the RIAA go after cd burning software that allows people to burn music cds? How come we are allowed to copy music, tapes, whatever, but we are not supposed to download it.

Downloading music off the Internet is an excellent way of finding those hard to find songs long ago or just finding music just made for the Internet itself. I just don't get why many song publishers are in such a fuss over computer users downloading free songs. Downloading those particular songs are a good way for to find out about them before purchase. Maybe keeping these song downloads online will help the music industry out of their current situation.

If its wrong to do this, then we all need to throw away our VCRs for the same reason.

I download songs all the time, but mostly songs that are hard to find. Using WinMx, I have found a LOT of songs that I wouldn't have found otherwise, like rare remixes and songs that aren't on any CDs. I hope that these record companies fail in shutting these places down. No one has a problem in people taping stuff off the TV for prosperity. Why have problems in downloading songs? It's basically the same, right?
twinmom101 05/05/2003
NOPE! don't feel guilty, not at all! Maybe if record companies didn't charge 18 bucks for a CD with maybe one or two good songs on it, I wouldn't do this. Like Tommy Motolla or whatever his name is is going broke, or any other artist for that matter. This is not going to go away, so record companies should quit whining like a bunch of rich babies and find ways to stay competitive.
RebelYell1861 05/05/2003
Fun, easy, and so much cheaper than buying CDs. And to say that it's stealing is absolutely ridiculous. I guess we better outlaw tape recorders and radios too! Oh no!
jomamma31 12/03/2002
I'd would like to say that downloading is fine. Sure it's stealing but music has been free forever. From copying tapes off the radio our even copying a vhs. Stuff like that has always been free. Were not wanting to "steal from the rich" we just do. Bands don't make much money off of cd sales anyway. record lables take 90% or more off the sales. Uh boohoo if britney spears makes 100mil instead of 101mil i'm sure we'll all be crying. This is a battle of record company's trying to stay in bussnies. If nobody wants us to download then stop selling blank cds. People say that there just going to copy a cd a freind has well that's stealing to! Downloading is fine stop fussing and join the fun!

Downloading music while doing my work has been a great way to chill out. Plus, I don't have to pay as high the price of getting a new CD. Especially if I only like one track in that CD, why waste your money on buying tracks you don't like when you can download that single track you'd like Online? Plus, you get to listen to remixes unavailable in the legal music market. Haha...

I love to download music and compile my own cd's of the music that i like and some of it is brand new and you can't even buy it on a cd yet. The only thing i don't like is that i'm on dial up and it takes forever to download some songs but in the end when i have my favourite songs on 1 cd it is definitely worth it.
princessangry 03/16/2002
I love getting new songs and hearing fresh new beats! I also love hearing songs several months before the cd's are out and that's what I do and I then burn the songs to a cd and I have the cd months before it came out! that is a cool thing!!! and I mostly use morpeous to get the songs and it's a pretty good fileshare program and I liek the technology behind it..... The only thing I don't liek about it is that if you have a slow connection the songs take a long time to get but it's not too bad on my 56k MSN connection.

Always. Downloading music is the main reason I started using the internet in the first place. It's fabulous, granted some songs take really long to load and are cut of in the middle. It amazes me the range of music available, some I can't even find in a recordstore.
ellajedlicka21 01/19/2002
One of the things I do most on the computer isdownload/listen to music. It is surprising how rapidly you can compile an enormously voluminous library of music. You can download just about anything in the music world.
