 | JACLYNPAGS910 (0) 07/17/2008 | SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. THIS BANK FAILS TO TELL ITS CUSTOMERS THAT WITHDRAWALS MADE DIRECTLY FROM THE BRANCH DO NOT POST IMMEDIATELY LEADING TO MULTIPLE OVER DRAFT FEES. I CURRENTLY HAVE $500 IN OVER DRAFT FEES B/C A WITHDRAWAL DID NOT POST UNTIL 4 DAYS LATER. THEY ALSO FAIL TO TELL THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT PURCHASES MADE VIA DEBIT/ CREDIT DO NOT POST AUTOMATICALLY AND IN ADDITION THAT THEY DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DAY A PURCHASE IS CLEARED. THEY HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL PURCHASES POSTED AND NON FROM THE DAY THEY ARE MADE, REGARDLESS OF WHAT BALANCE IS IN YOU ACCOUNT ON THE DAY THEY CLEAR. I HAVE BEEN SLAPPED WITH 8 OVERDRAFT/INSUFFICIENT FUND CHARGES IN ONE DAY, DUE TO THEIR NEGLIGENCE TO POST A DEPOSIT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD TO " LEARN HOW TO BANK BETTER AND THEN I WOULDN'T HAVE SUCH PROBLEMS AND THEN TO f*&K MYSELF" BY A BRANCH ASSISTANT MANAGER. DEFINITELY NOT A BANK I WILL BE DOING BUSINESS WITH EVER AGAIN.

 | kraymond137 (0) 07/10/2008 | My girlfriend has a card from them we paid off the entire balance on the card ($3,000.00). We paid off the balance and Capital One recieved the payment 3 weeks ago. Since they have received the payment they have not posted it. Let me repeat that they have not posted a $3,00.00 payment so we can continue to use their card. We are not looking to cancel the card or anything (because I have seen the absurd behaviors of this company when you try to do that). But wouldn't you think that if you pay off the balance they would want to post that ASAP so that you can go and charge more? I know they make a lot of money on their over the limit fee's and late fee's. Which is basically how they make the majority of their revenue. But I have also seen people being charged $11.00 just for calling and checking their available credit. Did you know that Capital One files a negative remark on your credit score it you file a complaint? Here's where this company really stands as far as decency (for all you who have taken the time to read this and still don't think there is anything wrong here comes the fun part)
CAPITAL ONE IS BEING SUED BY THE STATE OF WEST VIRGINIA FOR FRAUDULANT PRACTICES. yes thats right an actual state has gotten together with and are suing for not only the reasons above but also for deceptive and illegal practices.
Still not convinced? Ok lets really get into it then. The three main credit reporting bureaus are all under class action lawsuits against them for not holding this company to the same standards as everyone else under the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act. Capital one is not releasing the credit limits of their customers to these bureaus. This hides how much of your credit you are using from other companies who would really like to send you one of their cards with better advantages for you. (now I'm sure you're telling yourself whats wrong with that? they are staying competitive) Here is why this is very bad for you. Would you like to buy a house someday? Would you like to get a new car? How would you like to be refused credit or forced to pay higher rates for those things even though you have a perfect credit score? Wait what? yeah by Capital One not reporting that to those bureaus your credit is being hurt by them not reporting all those months of on time payments you have made. Because companies such as Equifax (for those of you who don't know they are one of the 3 bureaus being sued and one of the largest credit reporting companies in the world) can't see your outstanding credit and won't report you as well because they don't see all of the information or they see more accurately inactivity.
Capital One can "lead the financial services marketplace though this century". Thats fine with me. Good for them really, I am happy that they are able to thrive in our capitalist system. All we wanted was to pick up my girlfriends meds (by the way because we couldn't pick up her epi pen cost us an extra midnight trip to the emergency room because she couldn't breathe),and a TV while continuing to improve our credit score. I really didn't think that was too much to ask from a company that we have been loyal to. However then again maybe it is. I know I am a very disheartened 27 year old.
I don't know about you but after this I am really pissed off knowing that everyone who has payed late or is being screwed over by them not posting payments until they can charge you a late fee and raising your rates indefinately. Is now paying for all of their marketing revenue and bonuses.
But hey I am just one guy how much can I really do right?

 | smileseverywhere (0) 03/30/2008 | I wouldn't even give those creeps a star if I could. I said NO to the payment protection and they put it on my plan anyway, so when I wasn't even using my card I was still getting charged. They only letters I got said that I was past due already, so not only did I have to pay for that protection crap, I had to pay over draft fees. when I asked them to take it off no one knew how or could tell me what I needed to do. I then I asked to have my card canceled and they are still charging portection fees! They don't even know how to stop it and I didn't even want it!

 | gmihov001 (0) 02/14/2008 | I started establishing credit a few years ago, as a student. In the process I aquired a CapitalOne credit card, among others. Now, couple of years later, I am getting really disappointed by CapitalOne's attitude and services. Although I always pay off my bill on time, in over 2 years of being their card member, I NEVER got a credit limit increase and their interest rate for me has not dropped even 0.01%. In the meantime other banks have increased my limits triple and their interest dropped in half.
The worst is that recently they charged me a $39 past-due-date fee, although I have automatic payments activated and had more than enough funds in my checking account on the day THEY were supposed to collect their minimum payment. And they even went to report me being late (when it was their mistake) and ruined my credit score.
The customer service phone numbers appearing on their site do not seem to be working for 3 or 4 days now. What a customer service anyways.

 | zuchinibut (35) 12/28/2007 | I've had a Capital One card for over five years and have never had any problems. I'll say that I keep a higher balance on another card and almost always have Capital One paid off each month. So maybe I haven't encountered the problems that others have when they carry a balance each month, but I have no reason to complain about this company.

 | mrdovie (4) 05/23/2006 | 1% Interest is condemened in the Bible as usury, I guess all the credit providers fall in this same mold, if you run into hard times, they "help" you by jacking your interest to 30% or more, slap you with late and overlimit fees. They will turn a $700 debt into $1,500 in short order. I have noticed they post your payments after the grace period, too. I'm burned out on all credit providers. Cut those cards up!

 | bozobanana (0) 03/18/2006 | Basically all credit cards tend to blood suckers. It's all about profit at your expense with little regard to the consequences to the consumer. My brother worked for them. They shipped his job to India and pushed him and a lot of other good people into bankruptcy.
The only good thing I can say is, they pay one of the highest interest rates on money market accounts available, with no minimums. It's nice to get some of the money back that they sucked out of me!

 | davidf1014 (0) 01/06/2006 | My interest rate on my CapOne card was recently jacked up from 3.9% to 27.99% (!!) When I called in to ask why, the gal told me "it's just something that Capital One does" -- and I use the quote marks because those were here EXACT words! lol I knew there had to be a reason, but she couldn't tell me what it was. When I asked for her supervisor, she said she didn't have one; when I asked for her name again, she hung up on me. Great customer service, huh! When I called back, they weren't able to see that anyone had accessed my account but did tell me the interest rate increase from about 3 to about 30% was due to two late payments in a 6-month period. It's true, I don't deny it. The first payment was ONE DAY late (for which I paid their $35 (!) late fee), and last months was't late, it was two weeks early. I'm cancelling my card this weekend when I transfer funds from investments to checking to pay it off.

 | atkbj (0) 09/12/2005 | I have had my capital one card now for 5 years. I have never been late and have excellent credit. Capital one sent out a blank check offer for me to use and I used it. Needless to say that was the wrong thing to do. From the beginning they said that I would have a certain amount of credit PLUs the blank check to use.......so I started using the card and now it is over drawn 1800$. I called in and takled to 2 different people to ake sure that my credit limit was that amount and they assured me that the information they were giving me was correct. I asked to speak to a supervisor about my issues and they refused to let me talk to anyone. After a wek I finally tlaked to 2 diferent people and they were still of no help. So I asked them to take a look at the rcorda dn recorded phone coversations and they told me they do not keep records of anything. So my suggestion to anyone is DO NOT USE CAPITAL ONE ...and if you do RECORD ALL PHONE COVERSATIONS AND TAKE NOTES. KEPP ANY EVIDENCE BECAUSE THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY ADN RUIN YOUR CREDIT

 | Capital Thieves (0) 02/17/2005 | Capital one are a bunch of thieves. I got a balance transfer from them at 5.9% until the balance was paid off. Eight months later without any notice my rate was jacked to 14.9% for NO reason what so ever! They said I received a notice, but they lied and you have no way to prove them wrong. I have paid at least $40.00 over the minimum payment. I have perfect credit and have never been late on any payment to anyone, that's how I got the 5.9 rate in the first place. The customer service people will lie to you and tell you that a supervisor is NOT in when you are actually talking to a supervisor. I would advise anyone who is holding a Capital one card to do whatever you have to do to get rid of it. Sooner or later they will screw you!!

 | capitalonestinx (0) 09/25/2004 | They delay crediting your account purposely to charge late and overlimit fees. We use a bill pay service and have seen where capital one has actually deposited the check from the service before the due date and took 29 days from date of payment to credit it. They couldn't explain why. Thanks to bill pay for fighting it and getting charges removed(bill pay automatically deducts from your account and then issues a check from their acct. to the creditor-this is the check that is deposited by Capital one) They raise int. rates for no reason and to unreasonable rates.

 | sano (0) 09/18/2004 | I was a long time Capital One customer, and always held a balance on my card. I never been late on payments or went over the limit. Well anyway I just noticed my apr went from 9.9% to 12.2% 2 months back without any notice.
Once I found out their was nothing they would be able to do to keep me as a customer. So I call them to close the account, and the sales rep tells me that I have a small balance and the increase isn't that much and to sit on it for a couple of month because it will go back down(YEAH RIGHT!). Then he proceeds to tell me how excellent of a customer I've been. (so excellent that they try to sneak a rate hike past me because I averaged a $1800 balance since I owned the card) Anyway I payed off and closed the account.. HAHA CAPITAL ONE WHO IS THS SUCKER NOW!
Basicly what they do is scan the accounts of customers and based on research they raise the rates of customers who they think will most likly let it slide or have no other option then to take the hit.

 | scarletfeather (46) 08/05/2004 | These people are just bad news. I am sorry I ever got involved with them. They are greedy blood-suckers and will charge you a fee simply for breathing. If you are inexperienced with credit cards, do not try to learn by getting a Capital One card. I wouldn't advise anyone to have a Capital One card, but if you simply must, pay off your balance every month, and even better, use it sparingly or not at all. UPDATE: I see two of my trolls, Curly and Moe didn't find my warning against Capital One helpful. Maybe you guys are employed by Capital One, or are just credit card crazy consumers. Enjoy the high interest and the overlimit fees. Cheerio! UPDATE: I agree with C.C. Ridder. Stay away from Crapital One.

 | wary1 (0) 07/27/2004 | DO NOT call these people with your billing problems, late fees they claim you owe. WRITE to them. They seem to want to handle everthing via phone to cover their tracks. And in your letter to them be sure to state DO NOT CALL TO REPLY TO THIS LETTER, YOU MUST REPLY IN WRITING.

 | ihatecapitalone (0) 04/12/2004 | This is the worst credit card company in America. they add on bogus fees on the months you don't buy anything because they assume since you didn't use the card for anything you won't check your statement. They deliberately delay criditing you account to charge you a later fee. if your account is a $200.00 limit and you are at $175.00, they will deliberately add a $29.00 late fee to drive you over your $200.00 limit so you now owe $204.00. Then they can also charge you a $29.00 over limit fee. Then your minimum payment has to be almost 4 times the regular $10.00 limit. They also will add on bogus payment protection charges to keep you over your limit so they can repeatedly charge you their fees (since that is apparently the only way they can make any money.)
For the Month of March and Aptil of 2004 they charged me a staggering unexplainable $116.00 in late fees for 2 months of overlimit fees and 2 months of late fees. When I sent in the balance left MINUS the bogus late fees with a letter explaining why I wasn't going to pay the late fees they ignored the letter and the next month they had the $116.00 in fees plus a few bucks more in bogus payment ptotection fees added. After I threatened to send all my bills and bogus charges to my State Attorney General's office they agreed after putting me on hold for 20 minutes to eliminate the $116.00 in fees and only would extort the 2 months of payment protection fees out of me. I have 4 credit cards with several different banks and this Capital One company are a bunch of nazis, dishonest, lying, corrupt, evil, degenerate, bottom-feeding, extortionist, fascist money-grubbing group in the country and I hope everyone just like me will transfer their balances to other cards or open up a new account with a reputable company and cease doing business with these evil individuals.

 | Cxupid (0) 03/17/2004 | I dont know what these guys are talking about but I really recommend this card to first time card users, Capital One was the first to give me a chance and give me a card when the other companies denied me. Now i have excellant credit with over 4 credit limit increases since i got the card. Customer service is great, easy to read online statements, i have more than enough time to pay off my balance, and i feel extremely secure with this card, i have not had a single problem and i am completely satisfied.

 | BrainDonor (0) 09/04/2003 | What's in your wallet? Hopefully not a Capital One Card. There are so many other companies that you can get a credit card from...even with less than perfect credit. In my experience, dealing with Capital One is just not worth it...you're better off paying higher interest with another company. Capital One sucks!

 | tvadamo12 (0) 01/24/2003 | DON'T GET A CREDITCARD FROM CAPITAL ONE! A monthly service fee of $6.00 - that's MONTHLY, not yearly, is the first and biggest reason to stay away. God forbid you should go over your credit limit. That's $25.00 more dollars PER MONTH. Then if you're one day late getting your payment in, add another $25.00! I actually paid $56.00 a month more than once just for the privelege of doing businedd with their company. Then when I paid my balance in full and requested they close my account, they sent me another bill for $36.00, which has yet to be explained. Isn't this called loan sharking?
