I wish that I can rate this bank with a zero star. Their customer service is terrible, and their online customer service is even worse: they are either acting irresponsible or retarded. When they reply your message regarding online banking, they do not even bother read your message carefully, then they send you the pre-formated standard answer to you. If they ever send customized answer, they tell you to do exactly opposite to what you have asked. This customer service representative writing back to customers, Stacy D., makes up answers totally wrong; she'd tell you to click on some buttons do not even exist. I requested to receive paper statements, she replied how to stop receiving paper statements. I requested paper statements, because their website does NOT offer statements in PDF files. The statements I printed off their website got rejected by mortgage companies. I want to review history of transfers and schedule recurrent transfers, forget about it, you can not do..................in a word, worst online banking experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM. It has nothing to do with credit cards--don't have one--don't want one. They are one of the Pacman-type banks--eating smalltown banks, getting too big and screwing their customers to get even bigger. I could go into detail but I do not have the time to waste on them. All I can say is "the bigger they are, the harder they fall". Louisiana did not need this--no state does, I'm sure. Speak up, people. Let your voice be heard. Remember, David killed Goliath with a single stone. Thanks for letting me rant.

WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNINGTHE WORST BANK IN THE WORLD!!! STAY CLEAR OF THIS MESS!!!I consider myself a pretty patient man. Capital One has pushed me to my absolute limit! I am so angry with the amount of "blissful ignorance." I'm using "blissful ignorance" as a euphemism because I seriously believe that these people are too retarded to even know that they are lying. The entire bank is outsourced! They answer the phone with generic names like"Tom", "Jim", "Todd", etc. it's just like that scene in Slumdog Millionaire were Jamal (played by Dev Patel) answers the phone in the teleservice center and the woman gets infuriated with him. THAT IS CAPITAL ONE IN A NUTSHELLI took out a vision loan over three months ago and I HAVE NEVER HAD A PAYMENT GO SMOOTHLY!! I have had my checking account debited twice in two days when I was assured that only one payment would be taken out. I have been denied access to my own account. The list goes on...STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK AT ALL COST

the worst company i ever had, possibly the worst in the US.they ask you send many document when they refund you something, And they say they never get the documents if you send it by USPS. I did, and they said it's because USPS lost it. And they said I had to fax it, i did and they said they did not receive it. But my fax machine says the fax i delivered. I never had this problem with any other companies when I sent a fax. Why only capital one? Why would they ask you send materials again and againOne more thing: they never call you back, that is their rule, but guess what, they disconnect you during your call! that is why they say tey cannot call back...

I am a small business owner who used credit cards to get through some growing pains. Two months ago, I was able to pay off 90% of my debt. Much to my surprise, this initiated a response from Capital One in the form of an increase of my finace charge. It went from 9.45% to 24.9%!!!!! When I called to request a change , I was told by several (six to be exact) that this would not/ could not be done... I was furious, because I was able to discern from several conversations that.... if I was having trouble paying my bills then they would certainly lower my interest fee .I guess , because I was able to pay they were asured that I was a sure thing for higher fees. What a terrible business this is. I pay on time ... never late, always paid more than the minimum... finally pay off a huge debt and now they increase the fees. I will never use my Capital one Credit card again.

We received the new credit card last week and wanted to request an additional card for myself. We called and gave them the info, etc. We received the 2nd card. It didn't need to be verified via phone?? So we used it yesterday for a grocery purchase and then tried for an internet purchase, which was declined!!! We called them the following morning and they referred us to the Fraud Dept. We wanted to know where the incident took place. They would NOT disclose the info without first having my husband fax his Social Security No, Drivers License, Utility Bill, etc. I advised him NOT to fax vital info ever. We told the Fraud Rep. that they're protocal was backwards. They enforced strict security verification AFTER the fact and not when you apply? That's stupid. We have an American Express and other Bank cards and NEVER had a problem like this before. And when I thought about it, my daughter had the SAME problem last year with her Capital One card. Someone tried using her number at a retail website. How loose is Capital One's security database? This is not tight security; it shouldn't have happened in the first place. This has never happened to me with prior cards! In conclusion, we wanted to close the account right away, but the rep. stated that we could not until we send those vital documents!! IF YOU WANT SECURITY, DO NOT APPLY FOR CAPITAL ONE.

I visited a Capital One bank and got the worst customer service that I have ever seen especially from a bank that serves customers globally. I needed to get my card back after it was taken by their ATM and had to catch a flight within the next couple of hours. There was no way that they would return my card nor was I able to speak to Brinks (who takes care of their ATMs), and I was never approached or eased by any manager. I have been to many different places and worked with many different banks and never would I recommend this bank to anyone.

Capital One Auto Finance is very dishonest. They apply your payments the way is most convenient for them. I sent them 4 extra payments and they moved my due 4 months ahead.......making me think that the 4 extra payments were accredited for each month.....on the 5th month I sent them a regular payment, my balance didn't go down a pennie.....when I called them, they say that the 5th payment was to cover for interest for the previous 4 months.....WHAT!!...what the hell!!!......screw you....why you moved my due date then?. Here is a list of tricks they play on you: 1. Sorry we didn't receive your payment. (eventough payment might be on their desk) 2. Sorry we applied that to the principal.....we didn't charge you any interest (even though they moved your due date making you believe you paid them interest + principal for each month) 3. Sorry we haven't received your payment and now is over your due date so we have to charge financial fees and interest.( even tough when you call the bank they tell the check was cashed a day before you make the call) 4. They said they haven't received your payment, now to avoid charges you must pay them over the phone.....you do this and later you find out your bank has paid twice to capital one.....yeah try to get the second payment from capital one.....good luck you'll fight for this for a long time 5. We never received your payment now your account is deliquent...(yeah your called your bank and the funds were withdrawn.....capital one "made a mistake" and apply it to the wrong account) good luck trying to fix this....it takes a while and more and more tricks to get your money. Altough more expensive, this is what you can do to protect yourself: 1. Send a letter and explain how you want your payment applied to your account. Regular payment or Principal. If the payment is applied to principal only, explain to them you don't want your due date changed. You will be making a regular payment next month. 2. Write your Capital One Bank account on your payments and also write if this a principal only or a regular payment on each and every check. 3. Send your payment certified mail and return receipt requested. I know is expensive but you will have proof that it was delivered and will help you in court. 4. Mail your payment 10 business day before your payment due date.....that will give you plenty of time to check with your bank. They still can play the trick of .....we lost your payment, or your payment was applied to a different account. But hey....there is so much you can do against a crook.

I had over $200,000 on deposit at Capital one. I needed a large sum of cash (not check or wire cash)The 42nd street branch manager told me i would have to wait until next week as he would need to order cash ..the branch only had $10,000. I asked the manager to call the other 20 branches in Manhattan as i was willing to visit each branch to withdraw my cash---they still could not get my cash. The branch manager told me to get out of the bank or he would call the police and have me arrested. I stood my ground and told manager i will call the news and press charges against him for theft---he hung up the phone fast I closed my account had to accept a bank check,,,,,hope it clears. GET UR CASH OUT OF THIS BANK

Capital One is the worst possible bank to get a credit card from! They gave you the lowest limits possible! All my other cards are $5000-$15,000... Capital One gave me a $500 card! I took it, to build my credit (I'm only 23 and a student, so my credit history is short.) I used it and paid it off every month. I had it for 2 years, they never offered to raise the limit (like normal companies do!) They charged me a $39 yearly fee, and a monthly fee too, even though I had no balance carried over! Once I canceled a payment that I made online a few hours earlier, because I realized that I have closed the account which the payment was going to come from. A few days later I found out that I was charged a $39 returned check fee. I called them, and a really rude and uneducated associate basically told me to go to hell if I don't like it. I told them that all I want is to get a refund on the $39, since I cancelled that payment. She hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to someone regarding what just happened. They said they have no managers! Wow! Then I asked to be transferred to someone who can help me close this account, because I'm sick of them. They put me on hold for 24 minutes, then hung up! This is more upsetting than anything I've ever experienced! Capital One is a company that should not be around! They have the worst of all - rates, fees, limits and customer service. I will never do business with them again!
JACLYNPAGS910 07/17/2008
SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. THIS BANK FAILS TO TELL ITS CUSTOMERS THAT WITHDRAWALS MADE DIRECTLY FROM THE BRANCH DO NOT POST IMMEDIATELY LEADING TO MULTIPLE OVER DRAFT FEES. I CURRENTLY HAVE $500 IN OVER DRAFT FEES B/C A WITHDRAWAL DID NOT POST UNTIL 4 DAYS LATER. THEY ALSO FAIL TO TELL THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT PURCHASES MADE VIA DEBIT/ CREDIT DO NOT POST AUTOMATICALLY AND IN ADDITION THAT THEY DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DAY A PURCHASE IS CLEARED. THEY HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL PURCHASES POSTED AND NON FROM THE DAY THEY ARE MADE, REGARDLESS OF WHAT BALANCE IS IN YOU ACCOUNT ON THE DAY THEY CLEAR. I HAVE BEEN SLAPPED WITH 8 OVERDRAFT/INSUFFICIENT FUND CHARGES IN ONE DAY, DUE TO THEIR NEGLIGENCE TO POST A DEPOSIT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD TO " LEARN HOW TO BANK BETTER AND THEN I WOULDN'T HAVE SUCH PROBLEMS AND THEN TO f*&K MYSELF" BY A BRANCH ASSISTANT MANAGER. DEFINITELY NOT A BANK I WILL BE DOING BUSINESS WITH EVER AGAIN.

My girlfriend has a card from them we paid off the entire balance on the card ($3,000.00). We paid off the balance and Capital One recieved the payment 3 weeks ago. Since they have received the payment they have not posted it. Let me repeat that they have not posted a $3,00.00 payment so we can continue to use their card. We are not looking to cancel the card or anything (because I have seen the absurd behaviors of this company when you try to do that). But wouldn't you think that if you pay off the balance they would want to post that ASAP so that you can go and charge more? I know they make a lot of money on their over the limit fee's and late fee's. Which is basically how they make the majority of their revenue. But I have also seen people being charged $11.00 just for calling and checking their available credit. Did you know that Capital One files a negative remark on your credit score it you file a complaint? Here's where this company really stands as far as decency (for all you who have taken the time to read this and still don't think there is anything wrong here comes the fun part) CAPITAL ONE IS BEING SUED BY THE STATE OF WEST VIRGINIA FOR FRAUDULANT PRACTICES. yes thats right an actual state has gotten together with and are suing for not only the reasons above but also for deceptive and illegal practices. Still not convinced? Ok lets really get into it then. The three main credit reporting bureaus are all under class action lawsuits against them for not holding this company to the same standards as everyone else under the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act. Capital one is not releasing the credit limits of their customers to these bureaus. This hides how much of your credit you are using from other companies who would really like to send you one of their cards with better advantages for you. (now I'm sure you're telling yourself whats wrong with that? they are staying competitive) Here is why this is very bad for you. Would you like to buy a house someday? Would you like to get a new car? How would you like to be refused credit or forced to pay higher rates for those things even though you have a perfect credit score? Wait what? yeah by Capital One not reporting that to those bureaus your credit is being hurt by them not reporting all those months of on time payments you have made. Because companies such as Equifax (for those of you who don't know they are one of the 3 bureaus being sued and one of the largest credit reporting companies in the world) can't see your outstanding credit and won't report you as well because they don't see all of the information or they see more accurately inactivity. Capital One can "lead the financial services marketplace though this century". Thats fine with me. Good for them really, I am happy that they are able to thrive in our capitalist system. All we wanted was to pick up my girlfriends meds (by the way because we couldn't pick up her epi pen cost us an extra midnight trip to the emergency room because she couldn't breathe),and a TV while continuing to improve our credit score. I really didn't think that was too much to ask from a company that we have been loyal to. However then again maybe it is. I know I am a very disheartened 27 year old. I don't know about you but after this I am really pissed off knowing that everyone who has payed late or is being screwed over by them not posting payments until they can charge you a late fee and raising your rates indefinately. Is now paying for all of their marketing revenue and bonuses. But hey I am just one guy how much can I really do right?

I wouldn't even give those creeps a star if I could. I said NO to the payment protection and they put it on my plan anyway, so when I wasn't even using my card I was still getting charged. They only letters I got said that I was past due already, so not only did I have to pay for that protection crap, I had to pay over draft fees. when I asked them to take it off no one knew how or could tell me what I needed to do. I then I asked to have my card canceled and they are still charging portection fees! They don't even know how to stop it and I didn't even want it!

I started establishing credit a few years ago, as a student. In the process I aquired a CapitalOne credit card, among others. Now, couple of years later, I am getting really disappointed by CapitalOne's attitude and services. Although I always pay off my bill on time, in over 2 years of being their card member, I NEVER got a credit limit increase and their interest rate for me has not dropped even 0.01%. In the meantime other banks have increased my limits triple and their interest dropped in half.
The worst is that recently they charged me a $39 past-due-date fee, although I have automatic payments activated and had more than enough funds in my checking account on the day THEY were supposed to collect their minimum payment. And they even went to report me being late (when it was their mistake) and ruined my credit score.
The customer service phone numbers appearing on their site do not seem to be working for 3 or 4 days now. What a customer service anyways.

I've had a Capital One card for over five years and have never had any problems. I'll say that I keep a higher balance on another card and almost always have Capital One paid off each month. So maybe I haven't encountered the problems that others have when they carry a balance each month, but I have no reason to complain about this company.

1% Interest is condemened in the Bible as usury, I guess all the credit providers fall in this same mold, if you run into hard times, they "help" you by jacking your interest to 30% or more, slap you with late and overlimit fees. They will turn a $700 debt into $1,500 in short order. I have noticed they post your payments after the grace period, too. I'm burned out on all credit providers. Cut those cards up!
bozobanana 03/18/2006
Basically all credit cards tend to blood suckers. It's all about profit at your expense with little regard to the consequences to the consumer. My brother worked for them. They shipped his job to India and pushed him and a lot of other good people into bankruptcy. The only good thing I can say is, they pay one of the highest interest rates on money market accounts available, with no minimums. It's nice to get some of the money back that they sucked out of me!
davidf1014 01/06/2006
My interest rate on my CapOne card was recently jacked up from 3.9% to 27.99% (!!) When I called in to ask why, the gal told me "it's just something that Capital One does" -- and I use the quote marks because those were here EXACT words! lol I knew there had to be a reason, but she couldn't tell me what it was. When I asked for her supervisor, she said she didn't have one; when I asked for her name again, she hung up on me. Great customer service, huh! When I called back, they weren't able to see that anyone had accessed my account but did tell me the interest rate increase from about 3 to about 30% was due to two late payments in a 6-month period. It's true, I don't deny it. The first payment was ONE DAY late (for which I paid their $35 (!) late fee), and last months was't late, it was two weeks early. I'm cancelling my card this weekend when I transfer funds from investments to checking to pay it off.

I have had my capital one card now for 5 years. I have never been late and have excellent credit. Capital one sent out a blank check offer for me to use and I used it. Needless to say that was the wrong thing to do. From the beginning they said that I would have a certain amount of credit PLUs the blank check to use.......so I started using the card and now it is over drawn 1800$. I called in and takled to 2 different people to ake sure that my credit limit was that amount and they assured me that the information they were giving me was correct. I asked to speak to a supervisor about my issues and they refused to let me talk to anyone. After a wek I finally tlaked to 2 diferent people and they were still of no help. So I asked them to take a look at the rcorda dn recorded phone coversations and they told me they do not keep records of anything. So my suggestion to anyone is DO NOT USE CAPITAL ONE ...and if you do RECORD ALL PHONE COVERSATIONS AND TAKE NOTES. KEPP ANY EVIDENCE BECAUSE THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY ADN RUIN YOUR CREDIT
Capital Thieves 02/17/2005
Capital one are a bunch of thieves. I got a balance transfer from them at 5.9% until the balance was paid off. Eight months later without any notice my rate was jacked to 14.9% for NO reason what so ever! They said I received a notice, but they lied and you have no way to prove them wrong. I have paid at least $40.00 over the minimum payment. I have perfect credit and have never been late on any payment to anyone, that's how I got the 5.9 rate in the first place. The customer service people will lie to you and tell you that a supervisor is NOT in when you are actually talking to a supervisor. I would advise anyone who is holding a Capital one card to do whatever you have to do to get rid of it. Sooner or later they will screw you!!

capitalonestin x 09/25/2004
They delay crediting your account purposely to charge late and overlimit fees. We use a bill pay service and have seen where capital one has actually deposited the check from the service before the due date and took 29 days from date of payment to credit it. They couldn't explain why. Thanks to bill pay for fighting it and getting charges removed(bill pay automatically deducts from your account and then issues a check from their acct. to the creditor-this is the check that is deposited by Capital one) They raise int. rates for no reason and to unreasonable rates.
sano 09/18/2004
I was a long time Capital One customer, and always held a balance on my card. I never been late on payments or went over the limit. Well anyway I just noticed my apr went from 9.9% to 12.2% 2 months back without any notice. Once I found out their was nothing they would be able to do to keep me as a customer. So I call them to close the account, and the sales rep tells me that I have a small balance and the increase isn't that much and to sit on it for a couple of month because it will go back down(YEAH RIGHT!). Then he proceeds to tell me how excellent of a customer I've been. (so excellent that they try to sneak a rate hike past me because I averaged a $1800 balance since I owned the card) Anyway I payed off and closed the account.. HAHA CAPITAL ONE WHO IS THS SUCKER NOW! Basicly what they do is scan the accounts of customers and based on research they raise the rates of customers who they think will most likly let it slide or have no other option then to take the hit.
scarletfeather 08/05/2004
These people are just bad news. I am sorry I ever got involved with them. They are greedy blood-suckers and will charge you a fee simply for breathing. If you are inexperienced with credit cards, do not try to learn by getting a Capital One card. I wouldn't advise anyone to have a Capital One card, but if you simply must, pay off your balance every month, and even better, use it sparingly or not at all. UPDATE: I see two of my trolls, Curly and Moe didn't find my warning against Capital One helpful. Maybe you guys are employed by Capital One, or are just credit card crazy consumers. Enjoy the high interest and the overlimit fees. Cheerio! UPDATE: I agree with C.C. Ridder. Stay away from Crapital One.
wary1 07/27/2004
DO NOT call these people with your billing problems, late fees they claim you owe. WRITE to them. They seem to want to handle everthing via phone to cover their tracks. And in your letter to them be sure to state DO NOT CALL TO REPLY TO THIS LETTER, YOU MUST REPLY IN WRITING.
Zioness Esq. 05/22/2004
Con Artistry at its finest. Read the fine print and check every bill carefully. Also know that they record all the phone numbers you call their customer service with via called ID. They are vampires.
ihatecapitalon e 04/12/2004
This is the worst credit card company in America. they add on bogus fees on the months you don't buy anything because they assume since you didn't use the card for anything you won't check your statement. They deliberately delay criditing you account to charge you a later fee. if your account is a $200.00 limit and you are at $175.00, they will deliberately add a $29.00 late fee to drive you over your $200.00 limit so you now owe $204.00. Then they can also charge you a $29.00 over limit fee. Then your minimum payment has to be almost 4 times the regular $10.00 limit. They also will add on bogus payment protection charges to keep you over your limit so they can repeatedly charge you their fees (since that is apparently the only way they can make any money.) For the Month of March and Aptil of 2004 they charged me a staggering unexplainable $116.00 in late fees for 2 months of overlimit fees and 2 months of late fees. When I sent in the balance left MINUS the bogus late fees with a letter explaining why I wasn't going to pay the late fees they ignored the letter and the next month they had the $116.00 in fees plus a few bucks more in bogus payment ptotection fees added. After I threatened to send all my bills and bogus charges to my State Attorney General's office they agreed after putting me on hold for 20 minutes to eliminate the $116.00 in fees and only would extort the 2 months of payment protection fees out of me. I have 4 credit cards with several different banks and this Capital One company are a bunch of nazis, dishonest, lying, corrupt, evil, degenerate, bottom-feeding, extortionist, fascist money-grubbing group in the country and I hope everyone just like me will transfer their balances to other cards or open up a new account with a reputable company and cease doing business with these evil individuals.
Cxupid 03/17/2004
I dont know what these guys are talking about but I really recommend this card to first time card users, Capital One was the first to give me a chance and give me a card when the other companies denied me. Now i have excellant credit with over 4 credit limit increases since i got the card. Customer service is great, easy to read online statements, i have more than enough time to pay off my balance, and i feel extremely secure with this card, i have not had a single problem and i am completely satisfied.
BrainDonor 09/04/2003
What's in your wallet? Hopefully not a Capital One Card. There are so many other companies that you can get a credit card from...even with less than perfect credit. In my experience, dealing with Capital One is just not worth it...you're better off paying higher interest with another company. Capital One sucks! Visit http://www.cap1sucks.com for more info.
raptah 03/05/2003
Without doubt the most dishonest, horrid, dispicable financial service available today. You would do better to burn your money in a fireplace than to deal with this bank, at least you'll get a little warmth from the flames.
tvadamo12 01/24/2003
DON'T GET A CREDITCARD FROM CAPITAL ONE! A monthly service fee of $6.00 - that's MONTHLY, not yearly, is the first and biggest reason to stay away. God forbid you should go over your credit limit. That's $25.00 more dollars PER MONTH. Then if you're one day late getting your payment in, add another $25.00! I actually paid $56.00 a month more than once just for the privelege of doing businedd with their company. Then when I paid my balance in full and requested they close my account, they sent me another bill for $36.00, which has yet to be explained. Isn't this called loan sharking?
