I don't think Matt meant any harm by what was said. I think what he said was just said out of frustration that he didn't get a letter from home.

07/24/2004 | Calling Jenna selfish for simply wanting to get her mother's letter during the bidding episode is just one example of how clueless Matt was. Jenna's actions were a manifestation of how much she cared for her mom and how close they were.

03/30/2003 | I've been intrigued by Matthew since I first saw him on the CBS website & his pre-show popularity was below 40%. People had already taken a disliking to him before even seeing him. His strategy in the game seems to be to not have one. He hasn't put an extraordinary amount of effort into forming/joining an alliance with his tribemates & seems oblivious to the other castaways' plans that are taking place around him. In the episode airing next week (the first week of April), Matthew "loses it", & becomes fixated on sharpening the machetes, a behavior which troubles the rest of the tribe. It's obvious at this point that Matthew has no real chance of winning, but he's an interesting addition to the game.
