did you know you can change an order with the one purchasing the order never notified?I purchased a 6 month fruit of the month club gift for my dad, My crack addict brother went there and called H&D and had the ship to order changed to his home!! I called H&D customer service and I was the one being questioned and accused of doing something wrong. I canceled the order and H&D would never admit it but if you know someone is getting a fruit of the month gift call h&d with the box information and request the ship to address be changed. Do it on your own order just to prove it can be done. So in short your order is not safe and will be met by nasty customer service people. I will never use h&d again

I bought a subscription as a gift for family. It was expensive, but as we all love good fruit I thought it would be worth it. I was tired of the bland tasting fruit in the supermarket and was looking forward to fruit picked sweet and ripe and rushed directly to us. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's worse than supermarket fruit! It arrives hard as a stone and goes soft before it ever ripens. What's the point. When I phoned to complain I got a very defensive response that got rude so quickly I gave up. I can only say don't bother. If anyone from Harry and David reads this: Your fruit should arrive sweet and juicy and should be picked ripe. Supermarket chains have to try to extend the shelf life of their product and pick green for the product to survive the marketing process. You don't have that issue. Somehow you have missed the point of your whole business model. And then you give your customers a hard time when they call. This is a recession where luxury goods like yours are the first thing to go. Listen up or go down.

I am also an associate of H&D. I do not work in a store; I work in one of the Distribution Centers. During the holiday season we are at the MERCY of UPS and the USPS. Orders are waved and loaded into UPS and USPS trailers and delivered to their hubs. There have been times where they have had the refrigeration’s systems set at zero degrees and THOUSANDS of gifts containing fruit needed to be reshipped. Drivers leaving packages by a mailbox on rural roads, a box of pears left on the porch in zero degree weather without knocking on the doors because they are busy. The utmost care is taken from the time a piece of fruit is picked in Medford Oregon until it is packaged and shipped from a DC to the recipient. It is actually amazing with the thousands of orders being shipped daily. We strive for Customer Service in all aspects of a gift or product purchased for personal use. As with many software systems, we have suffered sales glitches where an item that is out of inventory has had sales tickets issued, and although H&D "Reserves the right to substitute", many, many times production is changed to build those particular gifts and get them out the door to the customer. H&D donates thousands of pounds of edible product to food pantries across the states as well. Constant testing and tasting (yeah, a real bad part of the job, lol) takes place to assure the utmost quality of our product. Its the odds, you send out a million packages in a months time through UPS, USPS or another delivery service, you are going to have a few things fall between the crack. We have been notified of pallets or truckloads of packages that have sat in the "corner of their hubs" without refrigeration and they were still delivered, only to have those customers call CS (Customer Service) to blame H&D for the quality. Our CS tries their best to please everyone, but some there is just nothing you can do to please them. Even though things were not the fault of H&D, they try to remedy the situation, but some people get angry and you just can’t change them. I have been that way with retail establishment only to ponder later and feel bad about comments I may have made to an innocent employee. Granted, we may have an associate having a "bad day" as well and just say oh well and packs a bruised piece of fruit, or someone is getting a pallet out of the higher locations with a forklift, knocks off some boxes that hit the ground, and they place it back with the rest hoping no one saw them. These things happen, but our CS is second to none in trying to please the customer. We have also had complaints where the customer has called and told us their plums didn't grow. These plums were meant for consumption, not as a horticulture item. But, we sent new plums. There were around 17 or 18 complaints here. That is out of literally millions of shipments, but that is 17 or 18 too many. These are the ones we can try to make better. The ones that are worse are the complaints that never make it to the H&D CS group. Because of a delivery issue once it left our hands, we do not hear about it, but the worst part...We may not hear from that customer again. You are the most important part of the H&D business, let them know. Good or bad.

I work for Harry and David and also get very upset when i read these reviews. this is not how Harry and David works...Pears should not expire by December 29th when we are still selling perfect ( not ripe yet) ones in the store until Feburary!!! I dont know what happens with the shipping on line but when we take shipping orders in the store there have never been any problems in our store. If there has ever been a problem with anything in our store we replace it for you right away or give you a gift card to pick a replacement you want...i even have a customer who is a frequent shopper using 5 gift cards at Chrismas time from baskets and gifts she has returned during the year because she was "unhappy" with them....this all a lie , she is returning the gifts because she knows we will refund her a gift card for the exact amount of the unwanted gifts...but we smile and do it every year for her because we are told to make the customer happy nomatter what! Christams time IS very busy for Harry and David but its more of a UPS problem... the Harry and David stores do not work the same way....please dont let the mailing mistakes be your impression of Harry and David... my store IS nothing like these reviews ...

I ordered a gift basket with fruit in it for my grandfather and a box of pears for my mother-in-law. When checking out you can specify when you would like the items shipped and I said a day or 2 before Christmas. They arrived 2 weeks early and were spoiled by the 21st. I called Harry and Davids and after spending a half hour on the phone with them they promised to resend the items directly to my relatives houses(even though we looked like idiots not having gifts for our relatives to open on Christmas). The ETA on the pears was December 29th. I talked to my mother-in-law this evening (Jan 2nd) and she informed me they hadn't arrived yet. I called Harry and Davids back and they said they didn't have any record of the pears being resent. I spent another 20 minutes on the phone sorting that out with her and I had her verify my grandfathers address while I had her on the phone. Of course she had that wrong and said I would have to wait until January 9th (the ETA for my grandfathers present) and if they miraculously didn't show up on his porch (despite the wrong address) to call back (again) and they would resend for the 3rd time. For all of my troubles she offered me 20% off something for myself. I can't believe they think after all this I would give them another dime.

I ordered a gift tower two weeks ago to arrive at a relatives house in Michigan around the 24th during the time extended family and myself would be there. Well I found out that the tower arrived at their house on the 18th--way before the rest of the family would be there to enjoy it. I had read in previous reviews that the shipping time can sometimes be fast so I actually ordered it to be there at a later date than I needed it---Well it still arrived a week early. I called up customer service and they gave me the generic speech about how it's Christmas and they have thousands to send out and they can't guarantee that it will arrive on the specific day you select---Then why do they even offer that option?!? They ended up being extremely nice and professional and sent another gift tower to arrive specifically on the 24th--complimentary. I couldn't believe it!! I will definitely order with them again next year. Kudos to their Customer Service department.

Their ordering system is terrible. In December, they give you a "window" of time when your order "should" be delivered. Good luck with that. I ordered on Dec 12 and as of Dec 19, still wasn't shipped. They even went so far as to give me a UPS tracking number that isn't any good. I guess if you really need something from them, you need to order waaay in advance of when you need it. Not me. I'm done. Never again.

In this bad economy, business must be great for Harry and David.Since they no longer carry plum preserves in the stores, I tried to order from the website and even sent emails. They will not let me order!!!I have never been to a business that would not sell you a product unless you buy a basket of other items that you don't want or won't use. Poor customer relations..

I also had problems with my shipment being delayed by 10 days. No one from H and D called me to notify of the delay. I order for a party I was having and received it almost a week after the fact. I tried numerous times to contact cutomer service and they gave me such a run-a-round and in the end did not help me at all. Please do not order from this company there are so many better places out there to order from on-line. I have never seen such bad customer service in my life

I ordered product from them for the second year in a row. Card charged early and product to be delivered late. This is my last year for H and D. I should have learned my lesson last year when it took over a month after card was charged to be delivered. By the way, the notice on my tracking # says shipment delayed. Called customer service and their reason was that it was sitting in a truck somewhere between here and Tennessee. Beware of this site. Read and believe the reviews you see here.

H & D is one of my favorite online customers. Just a note of caution. The summer is just too hot to order cheesecakes from them. The cheesecake I ordered was packed frozen with freezer bags, and the cake arrived smashed and one of the liguid bags had burst. Everything was hot. Harry and David sent a replacement cake as soon as I expressed what happened. The second cake also arrived hot. THey really tried to make it right, but August is the wrong time to order their cheesecakes.

Ordered a basket for Mother's Day and it did not arrive by the scheduled day. Called customer support and they said they'd send an apology note and refund my shipping.
Also, ordered a rose plant for an elderly relative. It arrived dead. She was so disappointed and I felt so badly. It took 2 more attempts before a live replacement was sent.

I am still waiting for them to ship a gift I ordered a week ago to a friend with cancer. I paid $30 for the express shipping. What a croc!

what a SCAM! I ordered 3 gifts to be delivered to the same address and only one was delivered! You would think they would call and tell me this information but no... i just had a gut instinct when i was thanked by only one of my 3 bosses. I called Harry and David and they were apologetic. They "upgraded" me to baskets that I didn't really like... then sent apology letters.... but still no gifts. It is now January 31 and the gifts were supposed to be delivered on december 18th for Christmas! They still haven't received the gifts and Harry and David just blame UPS. I would NEVER use this service again.... I am very DISAPPOINTED and would not have paid however I was charged over a month ago for the gifts that still haven't been received.

Was sent a christmas basket with a deepest sympathy ribbon when i notified them that the pears were rotted and the ribbon said deepest symphaty they treated the call like it was funny so they sent a replacement of 3 jars of pepper and onion relish which I cannot eat peppers and onions..My sister ordered a cheesecake for my other sisters bd and it was smashed and a mess.I think they need to review their business practices and improve their customer service skills..

It used to be my favorite place to buy gift baskets....The customer service has gone down hill and the store managers are not nearly as professional as they used to be. I will not shop there anymore.

I read through the previous ratings and couldn't understand. I then noticed that these were dated back to 2004. things must have changed drastically since then. I worked for Harry & David over numerous seasons. We were trained to make the customer happy at whatever cost: if a gift arrives late; it's free, if there is anything, absolutely anything unsatifactory to you; you will recieve a full refund or replacement. The smallest complaint to customer service results in tremendous measures to make you, the customer, very satisfied. One thing to keep in mind is that Harry & David deals with hundreds of thousands of people every Christmas season. Your gift does go out on time (which is pretty miraculous in itself), but UPS deals with millions of packages, so a slip up here and there is only to be expected. I promise you that if you try Harry & David you will be extremely satisfied.

Terrible customer service. Late delivery ond not a good product. Stay away!

I will never order from this company again. I ordered a week ago and paid extra for 3-day delivery. As of today, the order still has not been shipped. A call to customer service made things even worse. Apparently, it's MY fault. I should have known that cheesecakes only go out on Mondays and THAT'S when the clock starts. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Will not use again! Ordered a christmas gift on 12/11 and told it would be there by 12/20. It is now 1/9/03 and it still hasn't arrived. I called multiple times and got a different story each time. I have now ordered a gift from another company (not Harry and David) to try and ensure my step-father gets a very late Christmas gift. Harry and David is just too unreliable to count on!

Too bad you don't have a zero rating! It is 01/06/03 and my sister is STILL waiting for the GUARANTEED 12/24/02 large party drum delivery. This after being told on 12/24 and 12/26 that is was on the truck on her street! We have since learned that a $200.00 gift basket that we ordered last Christmas was never delivered. Do not use Harry and David. Very undependable!!!!
