I'm going to go with five stars for all the good movies he was in. There was one lousy movie that featured him as a marine biologist that was talking to dolphins that should drop him one star it was so bad. (The Day of the Dolphin). Add back the one star deletion for being married to Colleen Dewhurst (twice).

In my opinion, George C. Scott was always a mixed bag. When he was on his game (e.g. "Dr. Strangelove" and "Patton"), Scott could have been considered one of America's finest actors, but at other times his portrayals were a bit stilted and the viewer just saw Scott the actor (e.g. "The Hindenburg" and "Firestarter"). Of course no one else could have played Generals Buck Turgidson or Patton other than Scott. (He refused the Oscar for "Patton".) George Campbell Scott was born October 18, 1927 in Wise, Virginia and died of aneurysm on September 22, 1999.

Great actor, Patton and Dr. Strangelove are great preformances. Also good in the Hustler with Paul Newman.

Great actor. The gave the best portrayal of a historical figure in Patton.

Get's mad better than anyone else, except possibly Kirk Douglas.

Very talented actor with notable range, although he did usually a roster of similar roles. Shone early on in Anatomy of a Murder and The Hustler, and showed comedic talent in Dr. Strangelove. Also did a very fine job in Patton, did well in lessor flicks like The Hospital. His work in the TV series East Side/West Side was also topknotch. I saw him in a Circle in the Square production of Death of a Salesman: around 1976 (also featuring Teresa Wright, James Farrintino and Martin Scheen) and his performance was truly compelling, inspired, intense.

One of the great ones...a brilliant performer not just for Patton but for lesser movies like 'They Might Be Giants' where he played Sherlock Holmes. He'll never be replaced---they broke the mold with him.

Who could ever forget his masterful portrayal of General Patton, in the movie "Patton." He was a great actor with incredible longevity and versatility. A true entertainment icon.

Did his best work in supporting roles such as The Hustler and Anatomy of a Murder. Too theatrical in Patton; verged on portraying GSP as a buffoon.

He was an excellent actor. My favorite role (as silly as it sounds) was his version of Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol." I've seen many good ones, but he was the best.

A great actor. Played Patton flawlessly as well as Scrooge. He will be missed.

I think even though he's not one of today's hot stars, he is a great actor.
