In general, this is the best of the blue-collar professions: lots of available jobs, mostly indoor work, clean, very well paid. Aside from the possibility of getting fried, there are few drawbacks to being an electrician.

My degree is in electronics. Some day, when I slow down, this would be a good part time job. Regular hours, clean, good money, and generally easy. Pretty much ideal!

On one hand you get to deliver severe levels of voltage on a daily basis. Sadly, most are saddled by unions which bully municipalities into unnecessary contracts. Go non-union and it is a wonderful career.
