 | jinnamon (0) 02/24/2003 | Please read what you rate!. This is not a low carb diet at all. Also, the focus is NOT on fat and protein. It is about reducing simple carbohydrates. The grains that are eliminated are refined flours, and sugar and hig sugar foods are eliminated. The fruits eliminated are hig sugar ones such as pineapple and bananas. Veggies eliminated are ones that spike glucose, such as white potatoes and beets. Almost all vegetables are allowed and many, many fruits are allowed. Bread is also allowed, but white bread is not. Stoneground whole wheat bread is an allowable grain. Castlebee also says that following this plan will reduce vitamins, minerals and fiber.
How, by dropping sugar? If you follow this plan, you will eat much MORE fiber, based on the foods that are remaining in the plan. Please, PLEASE read this book before you make any opinions based on ignorance pasted here. That is not an insult, by the way, because ignorance is not based on knowledge, it is based on lack of knowledge. It is not wise to make public comments on which we do not have a clue.

 | CastleBee (81) 04/09/2002 | This one strikes me as being typical of the crazy health reports you hear everyday in the media. They tend to pick out one thing and harp it into oblivion (or total prominence as with the new wonder plant soy). Then, before you know it the tables have turned and what was once the worst/best thing is now the best/worst. Oy! You could go nuts trying to figure it out! In this case the thing causing all the woes of the world (nutritionally speaking anyway) is sugar. This one had a team of authors that included a corporate CEO and 3 medical doctors who decided that you must totally eliminate sugar because of its toxic effects (because it causes the body to release insulin and store excess sugar as body fat). The guidelines for this diet are vague but they advise against carbs (mostly simple refined carbs which eliminates some grains, fruits, and vegetables). The focus is instead on fat and protein. Like The Zone, if you follow this plan you will miss out on important nutrients by elimination of many carbs, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Sugar Busters may also fall into the more dangerous category of diet plans because it has been reported that sticking with it for a long term may cause problems that include increased risk for heart disease as well as kidney and liver damage. Short-term effects may include fatigue weakness and irritability. Once again this one gains its support based on opinions and NOT scientific fact or study.
