While the concept is good, this diet is not for beginners, foodies and people not willing to make a huge lifestyle change. I did however learn a lot of interesting nutrition information, such as the usefulness of Omega-3, which I have integrated into other eating plans. But the food itself was just not that tasty and had a very Mediterranean flare to it, which personally I did not care for. Now they have jumped on the meal bar bandwagon and to be honest, they bars are not bad. I do enjoy the chocolate mint when I need a meal substitute.

I've been doing the Zone lifestyle for 6 weeks aftera recommendation that it may help my IBS symptoms and eliminate my general feeling of fatigue. It's worked wonderfully. I atribute it's success to the correct proportion of carbs/protein/fat for 5 smaller meals throughout the day. It just makes sense to me to keep my insulin level relatively steady throughout the day in order to be at my best.

Another narrow and near sited approach to nutrition and weight loss. Author Barry Sears (who does have a Ph.D. in biochemistry but NO formal training in nutrition BTW) claims that carbs make you fat and that most of our bodies over produce insulin when we eat them. His dietrary recommendations include 40% carb, 30% protein and 30% fat at 800-1,200 calories per day. So what's missing or almost missing? Cabohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Aside from that this kind of eating takes the joy out of food making it more of a medicinal thing. People on this diet have also reported fatigue, weakness and irritability. Like so many other fad diets it has less actual scientific support than it does poorly conducted studies and testimonials.
