Relatively safe area, that includes the Logan Square, Bucktown and Palmer Square neighborhoods. Bucktown and Palmer Square are much nicer than the rest of Logan Square.

Logan Square is definitely the new up-and-coming neighborhood, and Logan Blvd. itself is nice. But there are still problems; this isn't a place you want to wander around blissfully at night. Yet.

Every time someone says something about Logan Square, they have to mention the turnaround that has taken place there in the last 5-10 years. Well it's true, it was the Latin Kings' home base for almost two decades, and now it is a bit more middle class and there's a lot more diversity. But unlike Wicker Park, Ukranian Village or Bucktown, there aren't a lot of businesses serving those new residents. Most of the bars, restaurants and stores are still oriented towards the Peurto Rican and Mexican population there. Of course, there are exceptions, but not many.

Isn't it ironic that Chicago's street gangs, among the most feared in the world are no match for the modern urban yuppie. Logan Square an old Chicago neighborhood filled with history has undergone many changes. When I lived there in the mid 70's it was still on the downhill but you could look across the river at the Lincoln Park neighborhood and see what was coming. Another affordable and storied Chicago neighborhood snatched up by the ravenous real estate developers. The Hispanics who had displaced the Poles, Germans and Irish are now being displaced themselves. Gentrification is moving steadily west even as far as Pulaski Road. I will say this, as far as architecture in the classic Chicago style goes Logan Square is among my favorites. As yuppified neighborhoods go I much prefer it to say Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park or Bucktown. Bucktown really lies mostly in Logan Square as defined by the census bureau and the city of Chicago. Just as Wrigleyville is part of Lake View. Not only are the real estate elite changing the face of the city, they are renaming communities too.
