He's in his 80's-and so far has survived being shot..beyond that, this would only be significant if there's an outbreak of Jew hatred to go along with it.I agree with the ADL and like-minded "Jewish leader's" about as much as Scientologists

Didn't he just shoot one guy, a security guard? He's a right-wing nut, alright, dangerous to us all. Don't they have any gun laws or restrictions in the Nation's Capital? I know this, I'd like it better if only the "good guys" could carry guns, can we make a law like that, do you suppose?

This is a tragic story and is significant because it reminds us that we most likely will never be free of those who will act violently based on their hatred of others. This appears to have been an isolated incident of a deranged individual, but it shows how easy it can be for one person to ruin the lives of others.

Newsworthy indeed:
Many Liberal reviewers are using the recent tragedies that have occurred to take cheap political shots at their political enemies. Their reviews are meant to be divisive, and to create an impression that every kook that kills somebody today is right wing, (code for conservative) or (pro life).
What is surprising is that his kind of ultra cheap political gaming is coming from none other than the people that run this site. But Hey…it’s their site.
Is this loon a right wing extremist? Maybe, the nut also had the address of the Weekly Standard on his list, a publication that is run by so called neocons, a fox news location was on the list as well. He thought 9/11 was an inside job, so I doubt he voted for Bush. Just thought I’d mention that, since nobody else did.

Newsworthy indeed. .. but utterly predictable.

Rednecks- seeing their ideas and philosophies fail at the ballot box - fall back on rallying cries ("soshalizm in mah cuntry!") scapegoats ("dem jews") and other fantasies necessary to keep their little minds intact.

There will be more redneck extremist violence- because the audience for this garbage is shrinking and the world is changing right before their eyes. I enjoy the intellectual squirming of those who simply cannot change but it can lead to disaster periodically.

These cases are nothing more than simple domestic terrorism and should be treated as such. If redneck Jimmy had been a fundie Muslim it would have been called such. I for one want domestic terrorism to be called for what it is. . .

I'm concerned about the recent rise in domestic terrorism from right-wing extremists.

This is a danger to the peace and security of the nation. This was actually pointed out as a threat in April in a DHS report that Repubs got hysterical about -- demanding the firing of the report's author -- even though the report was prepared during the previous administration.

The report concluded "rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment."

Cited as potential mobilizing issues for right-wing extremism were "immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use."

The DHS also cited a 2008 FBI report from the Bush administration in which the FBI's Counterterrorism Division found with "[h]igh confidence" that "[m]ilitary experience is found throughout the white supremacist extremist movement as the result of recruitment campaigns by extremist groups and self-recruitment by veterans sympathetic to white supremacist causes."

Since then we've seen five separate incidents of right-wing extremist violence:

On April 4, Richard Poplawski, a conspiracy nut who embraced radical rhetoric and, as one friend put it, feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" (no such ban is in the works) and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon," shot and killed three police officers.

On May 30th, the head of the Minutemen American Defense Group (M.A.D.), broke into a home and shot two people, including a 9-year-old girl. Jason Eugene Bush, 38, Shawna Forde, 42 and Albert Robert Gaxiola, 43, were all taken into custody and charged in connection with the murders of 29-year-old Raul Flores and 8-year-old Brisenia Flores. Both were killed during an alleged home invasion.

On May 31, Dr. George Tiller was shot to death as he entered his Kansas church by Scott Roeder, an anti-choice extremist. In 1985, Tiller's clinic was bombed, and in 1993, he was shot in both arms by an anti-choice activist.

On June 1, Muslim convert Abdulhakim Bledsoe, in an act of domestic terrorism, opened fire on a military recruiting center in Arkansas, killing Pvt. William Long and wounding Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula. His actions were motivated by religious extremism.

On June 12, James W. von Brunn, a reported white supremacist with extreme anti-government views, entered the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum with a rifle, shooting and killing a security guard while leaving another unnamed victim injured.

Insignificant in that shootings happen every day but very significant in the cultural respect. The shooter was a prejudiced fucked-up lunatic.

My concern is that some will use this incident, along with others such as the recent shooting of George Tiller, as an excuse to crack down on domestic dissent groups, most of whom do not advocate for violence. This tragic case, along with that of Tiller's were both lone gunmen types with no interrelated agendas. To paint a broad brush claiming that a wave of violence is imminent due to "right wing extremists" is a bit presumptuous and can lead to the curtailing of civil liberties.

There's no denying the fact that Stalinist and Maoist dictators have created at least as much death and misery as their rightist equivalents.

Apparently, there's something about the current political situation in the USA that drives some people crazy.

However, we haven't seen many recent cases of liberals going berzerk, or even extreme leftists flipping out, for that matter.

Sad and troubling, but am I the only guy blown away by the fact that the dude is 88 years old? Don't folks who do this sort of crap tend to be a bit younger?

I don't think that this person or the person who shot the abortionist represent the agenda, thinking or actions of any faction of mainstream social or political organizations. It's unfair to claim that people who legitimately fight for causes they believe in, within the limits of the law and the freedoms provided them in civil society, should be painted with the same brush that condemns this sort of heinous criminality. That applies to honest, sincere people on either side of any issue. Nor should people who exercise their faith without imposing threat or harm to others be similarly criticised.

That said, it’s a tragedy that hatred at this level be enacted on innocent people and it is significant that such an act took place in a location where the people in attendance were targets for this individual.

I was waiting for this....the pathetic attempt to tie together two random and completely unrelated events- namely, this shooting at the Holocaust Museum and the recent shooting of Dr. Tiller.
Nazis were not and are not "right wingers"....they are socialists. One of their first acts once in power in Germany was to outlaw private ownership of firearms. Very "right wing" of them.
In the last week here, seven black guys commited horrible crimes. Five of them broke into a County Councilman's house, tied up his family, beat the hell out of them, and proceeded to rob the place. Two others raped a white woman AND her four-year-old daughter. I guess that means...um...black supremacist/ leftist domestic terrorism is on the rise.
How about the Muslim who shot the Army Recruiter?
Anything else unrelated we can tie into this? Oh no...that's right...its just white guys and "right wingers".
What a joke.
