The original (I saw it on TV at my girlfriend's) was spoiled for me by the scene where Machio wobbles on top of the piling, and by the absurdity of his winning the contest at the end whilst seriously injured. However earlier scenes almost redeem it from being included in the category of worst films.

This film cannot be remade, not even if they call it the Kung Fu Kid like some rumours have mentioned. It will be impossible for Will Smith and Co. to produce a film that matches this. Sure they can get Jackie Chan to take on the role of Mr Miyagi... but no matter how good his martial arts and how "good" his films are, he's no Pat Morita. They should leave this film be and ruin some other childhood movie instead... oh wait, there's plenty they're remaking :(I've just heard this is now officially going to be titled "The Kung-Fu Kid" due to it being centred around Kung-Fu being taught by Jackie Chan instead of Karate.

Don't even think about it, Hollywood. I'm spoiled by the work of Ralph Macchio and the late Pat Morita. I'm not so sure anyone else can pull it off.

You could do this but it's best just left alone.

I'm starting a new"fucking blows" rating system. This idea gets 5 grenades. The original got 5 claymores. Why does the remake suck less than the original? Because, the remake can't possibly be any fucking worse than the original. There's nowhere to go but bouncing betty. Here's a pre-release snippet of the script:*miyagi shows young rufus how to wax the car. young rufus yawns. bends over to pick up crack pipe*"Wax on, right hand. Wax off, left hand. Wax on, wax off. Breathe in through nose, out the mouth. Wax on, wax off. Don't forget to breathe, very important."*miyagi hands young rufus the shamwow, turns and starts toward the house*"Sure, I'll get right on it. *gives miyagi the finger* By the way, there's some milk on the table for ya. Ever hear of Roofies? *miyagi shakes head* No? They're a calcium supplement. Take the ten I left beside the brownies with parsley in them. Have a few if you want. *miyagi waves, nods* Just lookin' out for ya, bud." *5 minutes later, young rufus peaks through kitchen window* "Out like a light! Fuckin' dolt. *young rufus grabs his nuts* WAX THIS ASSHOLE! *turns and whistles to some homeless drunkard* Hey cheesehead, help me push this ragged piece of shit down to Tony V's Detailing and Protection Racket." It gets better. There's a remake in the works for "The Dirty Dozen", along with 54 other movies. A few have already been released. Also, check the "38 PLANNED MOVIE REMAKES YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT" link at the bottom. Here's the list. May God, or Carrot Top, help us all.http://tinyurl.com/5lntc5

"The Karate Kid" remake titled "The Kung Fu Kid" is actually in pre-production now, and will star Will Smith's son Jaden in a similar role that Ralph Macchio made world famous; as well as the iconic role of Mr. Miyagi played by Jackie Chan (though likely their character names will not be the same as from the original). In any case, remaking this classic is questionable at best, and plain stupid at the least.Lack of originality? Check. And talk about the actors playing these legendary roles. Chan is good, but he's nowhere remotely close to being Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi. And Jaden Smith as Daniel? Oh com'mon. *shakes head in disgust* Talk about Hollywood nepotism at its worst. The whole idea is...misguided.

I will always prefer the original. It is not too often I like a remake as much. they are just not the same. suppose the new version will be okay for it's new young audience. but I will consider this a movie that has the same title and that is it.

Please...no. Not unless they force captured terrorists to sit through it (in a 62 degree room on a wooden bench)
