I once saw a TV program that listed the scariest scenes ever in a horror picture, and this was right there at the top. That image of a creepy, peculiarly shaped silhouette, with claws for a hand, slowly making it's way up the stairs, is enough to chill you to the bone, and from that moment on, i knew i had to see the movie. I was not disappointed. It is every bit as frightening as other reviewers have claimed. The dracula in this movie (played by Max Schreck) is probably the most frightening, chilling, ugly, repugnant and grotesque creature you will ever see in a horror picture. There is just something so profoundly disturbing and sinister about him, he really is the stuff of (your worst) nightmares. Don't let the fact that this film is silent put you off, it is no less terrifying, believe me. A true horror classic, and not to be missed!

Probably the best vampire movie ever, and high up there in the pantheon of my personal favorites. No actor has ever essayed a more terrifying, repellent vampire than Max Schreck. All vampire movies that have been produced in the decades since are just pallid imitations of this masterpiece. The passage of time has done nothing to minimize its chilling potency. Even the re-make by genius film-maker Werner Herzog couldn't measure up.

Max Schreck portrays the creepiest character to ever grace the screen.

One of the great silent films of all time, and one of the best and most intelligent horror films as well. I particularly like the scene of the rats biting the sailors.

The most atmospheric and eerie movie about the undead, the vampire and it only gets more powerful with age.

An interesting early look at the vampire legend, but I still can't make myself really enjoy silent movies. They annoy me more than anything else.

Possibly the most frightening horror movie of all-time! Murnau sure as hell knew how to make movies, as did Germany in general! They set the ground-work for all-time on how to make a successful horror movie.

Probably the best rendition of the immortal novel. Maurnau is a great director, and NOSFERATU proves it. This film set the standard for every gothic horror film that followed. Along with THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA & CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI, NOSFERATU is probably the best silent horror movie.
