I have yet to see a video clip that gives enough context for me to decide whether or not she overreacted. If she was the only person in attendance who wasn't being addressed as senator, then I think she had cause to correct him, although her manner in doing so could have been a bit less snide. Otherwise it was probably uncalled for, and likely in response to other interactions in the male-dominated political spectrum. In either case, the amount of conversation this trivial 17 second clip has sparked seems a bit absurd. Update: I get it now. Waxing speculative is fun and easy! Please give me time to formulate an elaborately presumptuous opinion on this important matter based upon the sole fact that I have 26 years experience being female. That's apparently the only qualification I need to manufacture the experiences and thoughts held by Boxer and Every Woman Alive, (and dead) Forever.Stay tuned. :P

I'm going to swim against the tide here. The general was addressing the male senators in in the room as "Senator".The general was addressing Boxer as "ma'am."That seems like bullshit to me -- good for her for standing up for herself.Significant? Hardly.
FranksWildYear s 07/16/2009
Significant? Someone holding national elected office demonstrates arrogance, ego and a thin skin. The foundation of the union could crumble.

I only heard about this after the fact, and as usual with Babs, this is hilarious. The general, who is a gentleman, called everyone "sir" and "ma'am" according to protocol. Babs stated that he should call her "senator" since she worked so hard for it.
Voters in the Golden State who vote for her should wear sacks over their heads to hide the shame.
She does deserve accolades, however, so here goes. She is the most stupid senator now serving and she in the finals for most stupid senator all time, USA, 1789-present. You are welcome, Babs.
Watch madam stupid in her performance. Thank you, ma'am!

my goodness. being offended at being called Ma'am. good thing he did not call her bitc*.really did not need to get on her soapbox. the guy was just being polite.
CastleBee 07/04/2009
She worked hard huh - well sing me a song Donna Summer - who the hell doesn't...Yes, I'm sure she and the general worked hard for their respective positions. The difference is that in this case, the general appears merely to have suffered a lapse in protocol while the senator had a lapse of good sense. Regardless of whether or not she was in the right, her public hand slap was just snotty overkill at that point. If she had been more interested in the topic at hand and less in making the news she might have gathered up enough class to speak to him in private later. As it turned out she just came off showing how arrogant, insecure and small she really is. Character traits that obviously caused her much less effort than her climb to the senate.

Significant event...No!But damn...What a whore.

The military protocol is to address senior males as 'sir', and senior females as 'ma'am'. The 1-star was correct. And Boxer looks, to right thinking adults, like the self absorbed ass**** that she is. Does anyone really believe that a male senator would issue the same correction because the general addressed him as 'sir'? With the exception of say, Barney Frank (a 'ma'am', I believe), the answer is NO. This is what passes for a statesperson these days in this country? No wonder we're in trouble.

Nancy Pelosi. There... everybody feel better?

I regard Boxer as an ineffective, and often disgraceful example of the worst that the Senate has to offer, but lets step back from this supposed horrible incident for a moment. The correct spoken form of address for an incumbent U.S. Senator is "Senator." You'd think, given the military's long standing pre-occupation with protocol, that they would get that right. While the officer might not respect Boxer he should at least respect the office she holds.I suspect this was a momentary lapse on the General's part, and a touch of hurt feelings on Boxer's. Utterly irrelevant, except in getting some folks on RIA worked up.

What an Idiot.

You know, bitch, he worked harder for his star. Yeah.

Her royal bigness's immense stupidity is not particularly newsworthy, nor has it been for a long time. This is typical behavior for the world's dumbest politician and professional title whore. What might be newsworthy is, amidst the embarrassment he had to go through being dressed down by a disrespectful and certified idiot, how professional Brigadier General Michael Walsh was in being able to maintain his composure in response to it.Walsh deserves a promotion after going through such hostile fire.

Recently, the boots on the ground in Afghanistan lost the privilege of shooting back at bad guys who are firing from inside homes. Now we know why: it's this kind of disrespect that the Military shows to our beloved Royalty. What's next? Big red circles on our uniforms? Nice going General...(But you won't get anything even if you do call her Senator)Boxer's hostility for the Brigadier General says it all. It makes me sick...
GoinDownSlow 06/24/2009
Ah, ma'am, at the LACPR is a..."I'd, ah...You know do me a favor. Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it, yes, thank you.""Yes, BITCH"

Not an event. . .but one of a few flubs by Broom Hilda. How does she drive with while wearing a straitjacket?

Wow. Barbara Boxer seems like the ice queen supreme here. Sir and Ma'am are more than appropriate ways to address someone. Look up the clip on the internet, because it's worth checking out to see how much of an arrogant snot she is. She should apologize to that general.Just want to amend this a little bit because I watched the clip again: God, I am still in complete awe of what a prick Barbara Boxer was to this general. He's made a life out of serving his country, Boxer has made a life out of being an asshole. If I ever see Barbara Boxer, I'm going to make her call me Lord Studebaker.
abichara 06/20/2009
What an ego maniac! What did she want to be called? Her highness? Really it boggles the mind as to how some of these people even get elected in the first place. Some political types are so out of touch with reality that perhaps they need to be humbled by a vote of no confidence from the people.
