I've used GoGo a few times on Virgin America flights from San Francisco to Las Vegas and it works pretty well. While there are a few momentary hiccups with the service, it seems to work more consistently than Virgin's inflight TV service. For short flights it can be pricey, but if you need to stay online, it's a nobrainer. I didn't find the connection speeds to be a problem either.
