Something tells me that most people with any interest in the subject would go with Patton here. He was definitely the better tactician. The "rep" of the two differs vastly, with Patton being known as the win-at-all-cost Tasmanian Devil; MacArthur as the general who wanted victory with minimal casualties. It is noteworthy that the two men actually hated each other. Roosevelt promised Patton a command in the Pacific. Once he died, Mac said no to Patton's presence in the theatre.Further, both men admitted to a face-off in WW1. To their dying days, both swore that the other backed down.
