Depends upon the occasion. Out at a pub with friends, of course the choice is beer, but if I have alcohol with dinner I'll always pick wine (exception to this rule: german food). I enjoy wine for its nuance and beer for its simplicity.

There is nothing like a good Merlot or Cabernet with a meal. For me however, for whatever reason, there is nothing like the headache that follows. I don't care for most white wines; and white zin is like Kool-Aid with a bit of alcohol.
Beer is more practical and more versatile. In reality, there is not that much difference between the $25.00 bottle of wine and the $200.00 bottle. With beer, you can go from crap, to acceptable, to fine pilsner for a difference of only a few bucks.
Give me a beer and a great game of college football anyday.

I love good beer, particularly the great craft breweries of the Pacific Northwest.

I love good wine, particularly those of Australia, California and Italy.

I don't see the two as mutually exclusive.

For the record I also like Irish whiskey and bourbon, gin and tequila, vodka and brandy. It depends on my mood, what's going on and whats for dinner.

Just a matter of taste, but most wine drinkers turn their nose up at beer & most beer lovers will spit vino across the table should they accidentally ingest any.(wiping shirt)

As accessories? It depends on if I'm wearing a T-shirt or a night gown that day.

Beer. Wine is most definately needed in some occasssions. My prefrence is beer. I don't mean the type of beer some moronic phrat boy would use to play beer pong with but a decent craft/ micro-brew
or high quality import ( preferably from either ireland, scotland, or England. My favorite beer countries outside of the unitedstates). It is a real shame that people always associate beer with shitty adjunction lager macro brews such as budweiser.

As a callow youth, my preference was for Balantine Ale.

Now, I'm (sort of) a grownup.

I enjoy a glass of good chardonnay, but not when I'm tailgating.

I can count the number of drinks I have a year on two hands, which probably wouldn't have been the case five years ago. Anyway, wine never sat right with me. Maybe I didn't try the right ones. Even Frasier Crane gave 4 Stars to a Mexican Zinfandel.

Wine - no contest. Beer makes me feel like a Macy's float.

Not a big beer drinker, but I will choose it over wine any day. I like the taste better.

Tequilla? Can I pick tequilla? Perhaps a good peppermint schnapps?

Wine certainly has its place in the epicure life and there are times when its absence is near intolerable, but beer is one of the base elements of our existence.

Try picturing yourself sitting in the stands at a baseball game on a beautiful summer afternoon with a loaded hotdog and a five oz. glass of Chardonnay. After a hard day of muscle crunching manual labour, do you crave the thirst quenching refreshment of a good Merlot? After exams are done it is not traditional to young university students to celebrate over a couple of Riesling. It's beer that we want and it's beer that we will have.

I can tolerate good wine on certain occasions. . .especially when someone I don't really care for dies. . .but in the main, I'm a certified beer snob. Puts me at odds with a few friends who don't share my proclivities and they call me a beer snob-

But if there's one thing we've all learned on this website- "If you're not a snob about something then you have no taste in anything."

(Can't remember where I read that here but much power and respect to that author.)

Wine is good, but I think Tom T. Hall says it best below:
