This and potato salad feel like picnic staples to me. They are easy to fix ahead of time and then carry in a container. They are a classic side dish to go along with whatever the main course of your picnic meal might be.

I've had good macaroni salad, but many recipies rely a little too heavily on mayo and sweet pickle relish for my tastes.
