I enjoy watching Burton. Not so much in the big budget films but movies like "Night of the Iguana", and "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold", he was very good. Unfortunately his penchant for booze and hooking up with Liz (the ultimate high maintenance wife) was his downfall. Every movie he made that I enjoy watching seems to be in black & white.

He was always one of my favorites. Loved all his movies with La Liz.

A good actor who would seemingly appear in anything as long as the price was right.

He had some good stuff and some that was trash. Balance off.

One of the great actors of his generation. Could have been greater, if he had not met up with 'Liz. His Henry V is still talked about. Try to see him in the Fox film Prince of Players....

Ghastly over rated bore who was only small time until he got together with that other bore, the over rated, over weight Taylor. My God, just imagine being in the company of that pair of over inflated ego's. As for his droning voice, give me the magic silky tones of the great James Mason any time.

A hard living hard drinking classically trained actor who added his unique touch to every role he played. This may come as a surprise to some but my favorite performance by Burton was not in any of his films, but his appearance on the Tonight Show when it was hosted by Jack Paar. Burton told a story that in 1953 when he was playing Hamlet on stage, Winston Churchill attended a performance and seated himself in the front row. Churchill, who was a lover of Shakespeare, knew the play by heart and whenever Burton would speak he could hear the echo of Churchill's growl as he mouthed the same lines. Burton tried speeding up the pace but Churchill followed suit. When he slowed his delivery, so did Churchill. Finally Burton tried omitting entire sentences and when he did Churchill roared in protest from the front row. Burton's imitation of Churchill on Paar's show is one of television's classic moments and can often be seen on programs that chronicle Jack Paar or the history of the Tonight show. Whether you are a fan of Churchill or Burton, his rendition of the story and imitation will bring tears of laughter. After the first act, Burton thought that Churchill had left the theater only to find him knocking on his dressing room door and asking Prince Hamlet, may I use your lavatory? (To pee or not to pee..... that was the question) It must have been a wonderful moment in time for the rest of the audience to have two men of such high stature both performing Hamlet at the same time.

Richard Burton has always been one of my favourites. When I watch his films, I get goosepimples. He was simply stunning.

An absolute hack. He has about three good performances, I assume by accident, but most of the time this scenary chewing Welshman is unbelievably bad. Watch Exorcist II or the Assassination of Trotsky or Cleopatra or just about anything else, and then come back here and make a case that he could act. Should be one thousandth on this list, if he's lucky.

Oh I used to be so in love with him . Intense and fascinating, but perhaps an underachiever.

Very talented actor, but given to uneven performances because he liked the bottle so much. He had a magnificent voice. Particularly liked him in "Night of the Iguana."

One of my very favorite actors. He did so many films, but I especially enjoyed it when he was co-starring with his beautiful wife, Elizabeth. What a dynamic couple and great actors. Richard was handsome, but his voice was what stood out.

A great talent that was largely squandered on some of the worst performances imaginable. However, when he was good, he was great. See "Look Back in Anger" and "Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf".

Another wonderful, gifted and very versatile actor. I have always heard that Richard Burton had a tendency to get extremely wrapped up in his work and actually fell in love with many of his leading ladies (the most famous of which was, of course, Liz Taylor). His voice alone was probably enough to convince most of them that they were also in love with him. Whether that remark is or is not true doesn’t really matter now. The fact remains that his many very well done roles prove that in his profession he was very believable as anything from a spiritually confused Roman soldier (“The Robe”) to a dysfunctional, wimpy husband (“Whose Afraid of Virginia Wolf”) and just about anything in between.
