Starred in arguably the best version of "Mutiny on the Bounty" with Clark Gable. A memorable Captain Bligh. Unfortuately you won't see much of his work on the tube nowadays as most of it was black & white film. Probably the only place to view his films would be TCM. I agree "Night of the Hunter" was a quirky masterpiece. I always enjoy watching it when it is on t.v. Yes he was a homely fat man but someone has to play those parts and he did them very well.

This guy acted before my time but in the movies I've seen him in he is bad. He looks like a blob with a bad respiratory condition. He gives me the creeps. It looks like his acting is over-the-top. maybe I'm being unfair due to the aura of Hollywood in those days. He did do a good job in the Hunchback of Notre Dame, he was perfect for the part.

Great actor, the kind you just don't see anymore today. His prissy, sadistic mad doctor in Island of Lost Souls was brilliantly rendered.

Plus, he did his own stunts in the Hunchback, very underrated.

The old queen was a fine actor and the one film he directed, The Hight of the Hunter, was truly fabulous. Should have been given more of a chance to direct, but Hollywood has always been more about $$$ than artistic merit, and The Powers That Be of Laughton's time apparently felt he was not bankable in this regard.

A talented actor who might have become an ever better director. Anyone saw The Night of the Hunter? It was a flop at the time and it broke his directing career - but oh boy, what a marvellous movie it is!
