 | GenghisTheHun (177) 10/03/2006 | The press thought more of him than did the electorate. John Kerry beat him, for heaven's sake!
His campaign for Governor of New York never caught fire.

 | oscargamblesfro (81) 12/06/2005 | About the only things I liked about this fiscally conservative, center-right, opportunistic carpetbagger is that he incurred the wrath of the ultra- right wing, boorish Helms, always a plus. Oh, and he said he liked The Rolling Stones and The Velvet Underground.

 | Redoedo (41) 10/25/2005 | A decent Governor, with a strong record of cutting taxes and holding the line on spending. He's running for Governor of New York now, but that campaign is going nowhere. Shouldn't have given up the job before receiving word of his confirmation to the ambassadorship President Clinton appointed him to.

 | GOPmember76 (3) 07/15/2005 | He'll be remembered for getting hammered by Kerry in '96 by that I know a thing or two about killing remark. Weld never recovered.

 | Jed1000 (74) 05/27/2005 | I'm surprised at the low score he's gotten on this list. One of our most popular governors in recent history. As a Republican in heavily Democratic Massachusetts he had to walk a fine line so as not to alienate anyone. Another one who resigned early to accept an ambassadorship. Didn't get it, however, as his appointment was blackballed by Jesse Helms who didn't consider him conservative enough. Too bad. He was a decent governor and a genuinely nice man.
