Everything that Home Depot stopped being a few years ago after Nardelli was named CEO (and ultimately fired): open, clean, good assortment and a relatively pleasant shopping experience. The recession may have taken a toll on employees but the chain's model with the right customer experience and atmosphere positions it better than Home Depot for the economic recovery.

Store in Colorado. I go in the front doors and 5 employees are standing there gossiping about how they hate their job. I had to weave around them to enter. I forgot to get a cart, so i turned around, back through the employees, but the front doors were locked and you can't exit that way once you are in the store. a little scary that they trap you in like that. I had to walk all the way around through the store to the exit and go in the parking lot and get a cart and go back in. Same 5 people still complaining and now i weave a cart around them becuase they were blocking the entrance. I went to power tools to buy a router. nobody there to help answer questions and i doubt they could anyway. So i try to compare models and the router was bolted to the shelf so I couldn't even check it out. I didn't buy the router. I'll never shop at a lowe's again. Every time I go in there it's the same high-school dropouts not helping anybody. Amazon will ship the router for free with no sales tax. That means less sales for the local economy and less taxes going to my town, but lowe's has got to be the worst hardware store on the planet so I'm never giving them my money.

We built a house in Durango CO, my wife and I went to Lowe's in Farmington NM just on the other side of the state line. We ended up purchasing 1,500 dollars in bathroom fixtures, two toilets a pedestal sink and base and a spa tub. We paid and told them we would pick it up in a week. The tub was in the overhead and I noted where it was. The next week I called Lowe's on Sunday morning and told them we would be there in a couple of hours, told them what we were picking up and even told them where to find the tub in the overhead. When we got there no one was aware of our coming and not one of our items was ready to take. I was agitated and asked to please have our stuff ready to go soon. I even found all the items in the overhead and told them where it was. After two hours of waiting they finally had our stuff at the loading door but the tub sat on the reach just inside the door for at least another 30 minutes. As I was waiting in the loading area a woman drove up in a pick truck and as I sat there two men came out and immediately loaded here truck with landscape timbers and the men disappeared. The woman drove off and we watied another 20 or so minutes. Finally we were loaded and I was extremly angry I asked to speak to a manager. I told here what had happened, she apologized asked for our phone number and told me someone would be in touch with us. The next day I recieved a call from a different manager and she was very apolgetic and told us she would give us ten percent off coupon. I was apalled after waiting almost four hours and enduring the worst customer service in the history of retail all she would give me is a ten percent coupon. I told her I was insulted and that I would never shop at Lowe's again, and I have never stepped in the store since.

THEY SELL USED & BROKEN PRODUCTS!!! Seriously... they restock the shelves with items that have been returned after use & faulty equipment. How are they still in business? I have bought more items in these stores that need to be returned because of missing parts or OBVIOUS use. I mean I bought an EMPTY... EMPTY fire extinguisher! Didn't find that one out until 1 year later during a fire inspection at my business. I truly must be jaded believing that when purchasing a "new" fire extinguisher, that it comes full & unused. Thankful I didn't have to figure that out the hard way.STAY AWAY FROM LOWES & HOME DEPOT!!! SPEND A BIT MORE FOR HONESTY AT A LOCAL MOM & POP BUSINESS

Customer service sucks both in the stores and through the corporate headquarters. They sell faulty appliances and then do not follow up on repair. This store should be shut down. When my brand new refridgerator was finally repaired one month after it failed the customer service department refused to do anything about my lost produce or the tree days time I had missed work for their repair guys to come out one of which didn't even bother to show up. Then the repair guy that did fix it told me he spent most of his time fixing Lowe's faulty "new" appliances. One of their contracted repair guys told me if I didn't buy from his store instead of Lowe's that was my problem! My refridgerator was less than a year old when it completely shut down. And, the credit department wants to charge me finance charges and a late fee for the month that it was not working! My mother bough a new refridgerator from them a month after I did and when she got it home it didn't work. She had to take it back to the store where they told her they didn't have another and all they could do was sell her a more expensive model. My nephew bought a refridgerator from them a few months later (against our advice) he had them hook up the water line and went on his honeymoon. When he got back his whole house was flooded due to their faulty installation. The refridgerator I had bought was supposed to be new but they delivered the showroom floor model. When I contacted them and told them this they told me they didn't have any others in stock. They are crooks and somebody needs to do something!

We will never shop at LOWE"S again. The store is located here in Palm Desert California close to Home Depot. My son found a One dollar bill at the check out stand change slot. I did not notice when it did happen but unfortunately the check out clerk saw my son pick it up. How come she did not notice the dollar bill? She should had called the right owner if she's really doing her job. She was very rude to my son[ just for a stinking dollar] which is a minor, I did not gave the Dollar bill to her instead i called the supervisor and gave it to him, I doubt if they could find the right owner of that dollar bill. Because of that dollar bill our entire family will never shop at Lowe's again, unfortunately we bought most of our appliances at Lowe's. I bought a clothes washer 3 weeks ago and they have a sign that it say's "we deliver 7 days a week, believe me it's a bogus, I have to rent their truck and pick it up myself since i need the washer that day. I try to haggle half of the truck rental and the guy told me "what else you want free?" Not all Lowe's employee are rude but there are some that are rude.

We purchased a very expensive Husqvarna riding mower from Lowes. It has less than 100 hours on it, and has given nothing but problems. We took it back for a replacement, and Lowe's told us it wasn't their problem. They were only the "middle men", that our problem was with Husqvarna.I told them that when THEY took my MONEY, they got involved. If they are going to sell the merchandise, they need to stand behind it. They offered to send the mower out to their service center for evaluation (AT OUR EXPENSE)!!!!We are $1700 out of luck and lowes was very clear that they don't care. We spent about $10,000 with them last year, and they still don't care. Lowe's needs to go out of business.I will NEVER spend another dime in a lowes store.

We bought lots of stuff from Lowe's, including a bunch of wood to redo our hardwood floor ravaged by Ike. They sold us the wrong glue!!! Then a rep came out, owned up to their responsibility. We were pleased that they were doing the right thing but now they tell us the moisture is high on our slab and it is our problem? Huh? The moisture is high because the glue was water based! We will NEVER shop at Lowe's again and we spent thousands each year there. Home Depot is the only way to go.

We bought 4 appliances from Lowes in New Jersey (Jersey City). The customer service representative, Cynthia, with a badge that read "Customer Focussed" was among the worst and most rude reps I have ever come across. She rang up our order incorrectly. When we asked her to correct it, she told us that we should go stand in a different check out line because for her to correct the order, she would have to ring it up again. Took me a while to comprehend the logic behind that - a customer go through another stream of people so the sales rep didn't have to re-ring an order? Anyway, apparently the Lowes delivery and QA inspection staff could also use a lesson or two. On Wednesday I got a call that all our appliances were in stock and ready for delivery. So I scheduled it for Saturday. We donated our old appliances and got them hauled away the same Saturday so that we could simple change our appliances on the same day. On this very Saturday morning, I got a call from Lowes that the fridge had been severely damaged and they would have to go get it from another store. But they couldn't deliver that till Monday. They assured us the delivery would be first thing Monday morning. First thing Monday morning happened at 4:55PM (5 minutes before our condo association's cut-off time for moving major items). That too after a dozen calls pressurizing everyone to come in before that time, or else just cancel the order. In between all this, we were assured an additional 10% off to compensate for our experience. Now, more than a week since this assurance and another dozen or more calls later, I am still chasing the store manager, the delivery manager or some other manager to get them to stick to their word and give this discount. No luck yet! Oh, I so hate Lowes! Just wanted to spread the message...I am not sure which one's better than the other, but I would definitely rate Lowes a no-no on multiple grounds. I used to think Home Depot was bad and Lowes was the one known for their customer experience, but last month changed that perspective 180 degrees. Lately I have had great experiences at Home Depot and Sears too. Strongly advise going to one of those two.RegardsVarun

Kitchen remodel nightmare. We purchased Schuler cabinets and Kitchenaid appliances from Lowes and it has been a 4 month nightmare to date and we have a long way to go. Delivery and installers have been stellar. Unfortunately the architect series refrigerator and dishwasher have issues. Refrigerator $3000. has waves in the stainless at the top of the frig doors.. I will give Lowes credit for trying to get a new one to replace it. Unfortunately they are all coming in just as bad as the one sitting in my "kitchen". Dishwasher "quiet wash" is so loud that we can hear it in our bedroom with the door closed. I only payed $700 for the Architect model and I guess this model is not the best decibel model. I have bought many dishwashers and I did not realize that you had to buy according to decibels now. I am now waiting for a "real quiet" architect series and paying an additional $650 for the quiet. I haven't even started with Schuler cabinets yet. Let's see....waited 8 weeks for cabinets to be delivered and as they installed we found many flaws in the cabinets. Poorly made to say the least. One cabinet even had the top bashed in inside. So my Lowes salesman ordered all the replacements....and 4 weeks later the installers opened all the new components today and 4 out of 7 components are either defective, damaged or missing. Started calling Lowes right away and then resorted to tracking down Schuler (they don't have their phone # on their home page) Five hours later and no call backs. Asked to speak to the Schuler rep for my area and have not heard from him yet. We are living in absolute chaos and now we are doomed for how much longer. Lest you think we are new at remodeling, we are far from it. We did remodels on both the mainland and Maui for years and have NEVER had issues with products like this. I have to admit I have never used Schuler (& never will again) JUNK! I am so burned out I could cry. I will instead try once again to contact Schuler before they close for the day. Not hopeful anymore. Lowes needs to step in here and get on the supplier and so far no response. Sorry this isn't "witty". I'm just not feeling witty at this point. ARGH!

Why not to select Lowe’s for flooring install…… and why i HATE LOWE’SAfter persistant nagging from my wife, I was forced to make a quick selection for my wooden floor install. I thought, if I went to a reputable, chain I should be fine. First of all, the sales person never explained the difference between a glue down and lock in. The price for the hand-scrapped wood looked cheap. So, I paid $35.00 for the measurement. The measurer came for the measurement and took the measurements. What bothered me was the measurer was holding the tape slanting instead of straight. But, I was busy during the time (and did I mention the pressure from my significant other!) I wont get into the details, but during the installation, I was shocked to see the installers wasting wood. They used to cut a small piece of wood and through away a big chunk of the wood. Even after that, they were left with substantial boxes of wood!!!After the installation, being the engineer I am, I measured the flooring. With simple measurement, I came out with a difference of almost 25%. This was after lenient measurements. With the installation and wood cost, that was substantial. What followed was nightmare! I called Lowe’s and what followed was accusations and counter-accusations and stuff like “why did you not call us when they were throwing away the wood…”, “everybody does (over) measurements like this”, etc. etc. They reimbursed me about 10% of the cost and the cost of the remaining material. Needless to say – I am responsible for any increased sales at Home Depot. J If you want to do any flooring installation, here is my advise to you:1) Measure your floor yourself Measuring is basically simple – multiply the length by the height. If the room is complexly shaped, break it down into components and then add up the areas. (Area of a square or rectangle is Length x Breadth, Area Triangle is ½ x Base x Height, etc) The grand total of all the areas, is what your installation should be. 2) Shop aroundDo not rely on a single store. The smaller local stores offer better rates. Because they DO NOT SUBCONTRACT OUT THE SERVICES. 3) Do you researchUnderstand the difference between glue down, nail down and lock ins. The Lock ins are usually cheaper though the glue ins add to the value of your home. You could get an installer separately and then buy wood at a cheaper discount outlet. It works out much cheaper!!!And if you are a handyman yourself, get the wood at a discount outlet or internet and install it yourself. Lock-ins are great for this purpose. 4) AVOID LOWES like a PLAGUEYou will be paying for their premium over subcontracted rates. People who have money to waste, should go there.

BOUGHT A NEW FRIG ON 5-29-09 FROM LOWE'S IN SIOUX CITY, IOWA. ALTHOUGH IT WAS DELIVERED A FEW DAYS EARLY AT 9:OO P.M. (REMEMBER, WE ARE IN RURAL NEBRASKA AND ARE NORMALLY IN BED AT 8:00). Lowe's is where we go whenever we need something for the house. When our house was broken into, we went to Lowe's and found the lowest prices on doors and storm doors. The service is good, and they are very helpful here, unlike Home Depot. I definatly recommend you go to Lowe's over Home Depot for all your home improvement needs.

I ordered carpeting for two rooms, back on 3/14/09. I was told that it should be in within 7-10 days, with installation 2 weeks tops. My carpet did not come in for 61/2 weeks. Total time including installation, it took a full 7 weeks (5/5/09). Unless you're not in a hurry for your carpeting, I would suggest going someplace else.

I've tried to like the new Lowe's in Farmville, Virginia, but they sure make it difficult. Bought a grill last week, already assembled, that had no manual. Took me nearly half hour today to get one, though the store was pretty empty--and I wouldn't have gotten it even then except one employee, a lowly clerk, took pity on me and finally went to the back to fetch it, though that wasn't her job. I would have given only one star had it not been for that one employee.

Fort Worth, Texas Lowe's Store (April 22,2009)I had an issue with a Weed Trimmer. Went to Lowe's and got absolutely fantastic customer service from both Juan in the Garden/Mower Dept. and did a hassle-free exchange, and the returns Dept. was wonderful too. A big yes to shopping at Lowe's in the future
Redraven63 03/19/2009
Lowe's has never been an issue for me... Exceptional customer service, fantastic return policy, and fairly knowledgable associates. To a previous commentor... You didn't like the return policy because you had to put it on a lowes gift card and get your money back in two weeks? Did you pay with a check? That's how they HAVE to do check returns at most places because they don't actually "have" your money to return to you.

Delivery guys were FIRSTCLASS. They would not leave until my washer/dryer ere hooked up perfectly. They realized that the doors were going to oen into one another so they placed them differently, and threw in some extra long washer lines tohook them up!! These guys were better than the commercial!!!

I bought Schuller kitchen cabinets through Lowe's. These cabinets are under warranty. Within the first eight months the cabinet doors began to swell and separate at the seams. After several calls and a two month wait, the Lowe's and Schuller reps came and examined the doors. The defects were obvious to them. A report was supposed to be filed and a response given. Three months and several phone calls later, T have yet to even get a response, let alone replacement doors.
GaileDavidson 01/07/2009
Lowe's really should be out of business by now. No one in their right mind would let this company contract a kitchen install - and I'm obviously not in my right mind. They've been trying to correct a catastrophic cabinet install for a year at my house - and they've still not got it right. Remember, when you use their install service, you get what they pay for - not what you pay for. Spend a little extra money and get someone who really knows what they're doing - not someone who can barely run a retail outlet.

Brooklyn NY. Horrific customer service. We purchased (or rather wanted to purchase) a gas range by Electrolux. Delivery was scheduled for the 12/26/08 (2 weeks in advance from purchase date). There was no communication from Lowe's, period, even on the scheduled delivery day. We called them on the 26th and were told that they except the range to be in stock on the 29th. As to our question why there was no communication from them, the customer rep. repeated that the range will be in stock on the 29th. To our surprise, in the evening of the same day, we receive an automated call from a delivery company informing us that our range will be delivered the next day between 8-12pm. Next day we received another call from the delivery company with some bad news: the delivery has not gone out and we must call Lowe's to find out why. Lowe's customer rep has reiterated that the range is gonna be in stock on the 29th. On the 29th (yesterday) we were informed that the range is finally in stock and will be delivered between 10am-2pm on the 30th (today!). It is 1:48pm and the delivery truck is still not here. I just got off the phone with the delivery service rep. and was told that the driver is "running a little" late. And unfortunately they are delivering an electric range and NOT a gas range. It seems that someone messed up and recorded an incorrect range type even tho we were charged $25 "Hookup Fee for Gas Appliance" (clearly stated on the receipt).... Happy New Year to us from Lowe's in Brooklyn! It's is sad that in "large" companies employees just stop carrying cause the are just "employees" and "it's just a job". Even tho (I'd assume) these same people will be appalled by the same service if it's was provided to them. PS. 1:58pm and the delivery truck is still not here.

I don't think the employees could be any more useless at the Lowes by my house. Seriously, they don't even check you out anymore - I think Lowes should replace all of their employees with robots which would be far more helpful and save them the six bucks an hour they pay their employees. Unless you have expert superstore navigational skills and know exactly the item, brand, size, ect of what you're looking for, you're done for before you walk in. Home Depot is a little better, but I'd a million times rather spend a few more bucks and get acknowledged and even helped at ACE or OSH.
Strijdom 11/10/2008
Worse prices than at Home Depots and has worse service as well. They directed us all over the store for some baseboard, because no one wanted to help.

How great of Lowes to pride themselves on a guarantee competitor Price Match. However, they are NOT willing to price match their own Store. That's right one Lowes in one part of town has one price and the other Lowes a couple of miles down the road has another price - and guess what - they will NOT match it. Even after the first Lowes told me to go on to the other store and get the item there, for they were out of stock. So guess what Lowes - I guarantee that I will take my business to your competitors instead.

I had a very good experience with Lowes in Clinton Twp, MI in August 2008 when ordering their "especially made for Lowes" carpeting. After spending months looking for the face weight, density and P.E.T. recycled carpeting I had wanted, I found it after a third visit to Lowes. The carpeting is actually manufactured by Beaulieu of America, which is a reputable brand, and ended up being 1/3 less the cost at other stores. Personnel at this store were extremely helpful and pleasant. The day after I paid for the carpeting, I received a call from Lowes stating the installer would call within 48 hours. They called the following business day and came the next day. Carpeting was installed within two weeks of payment. Lowes immediately followed up with a phone call for customer satisfaction. Three different depts called during the process. If the carpet turns out to be a good choice, then I have absolutely no complaints with the product, but absolutely not with store personnel and independent installers. If the product turns out to be a bummer, can't shoot the messengers.

Lowes sucks ass!! Be careful! They do not do installation work, they hire it out, unlike the tv commercial, as well as their web site would have you believe!!! They hang there subcontractors out in the breeze by having them show up with improper materials. And won't pay them unless the "certificate" is sighned. They are in it to take your money..and then leave you hanging too. Beware associates they work on commission! I'll stand behind the contractor but never buy from lowes again.
DeloresK 06/03/2008
Delores - Was VERY pleased with Lowes' delivery and installation. Professional and quality service. Would recommend a "first timer" to use them. No hassels and they actually CALL you for appointment. Love my new cooktop. Happy camper.

UPDATE: You will probably always have at least one bad experience from a store. I had one such exchange at Lowe's but overall Lowe's has proved to be a good store. Whenever you involve people there will be bad apples in the group; the success of the store is whether the good apples outweigh the bad.
ORIGINAL MESSAGE: In the area where I live Lowe's is the better of the two large home improvement stores. Home Depot is the one that rarely has what you need while Lowe's is fully stocked and the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The Stores are very clean and well organized.

My husband and I love the products, service and people at the LOWES on University Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC. If you're re-doing your kitchen, go and see Anthony in the Kitchen Cabinets Department. He is an engineer, and he designed our new beautiful kitchen. He is very personable, and very bright. He even drove out to our home to double check the measurements and look at our lazy susan. Matt in flooring is also extremly knowledgable and helpful. We've also had to make a few complicated returns that Chris (a manager) helped us with. Chris was more than kind and generous towards us. Arnisha, who works in kitchen appliances and flooring is always extremly helpful, not to mention lots of fun to chat with. We've always had great experiences there, and we go to Lowes for all of our home improvement projects!

I love Lowes. I went one night, when my husband was working.I had my two daughters. I forgot to get a cart and was working with two baskets. An employee went outside and grabbed a cart for me so that I would not have to take my children outside. Not there much after, I was looking for a tiller kind of "thing", once i explained it to an employee, he found exactly what I was looking for. Every time I have ever shopped, i have always had excellent experiences. i will NEVER return to Home Depot. Lowes is cleaner, friendlier and overall awesome. Also when they give out coupons, they are so much better than the Depot ones. Two thumbs up for them.
AlOlmstead 04/24/2008
Lowe's online sells merchandise returned by customers at their retail stores. Packages are broken open and shipping cartons are smashed, so parts are missing. Lowe's so-called customer care phone number ends at a recording that bluntly tells you to stop calling them. There is a 50/50 chance (based upon two purchases) that your purchase will be a total loss. Deal with these people ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

My expierence with Lowes leaves me very dissatisified. I bought a Refrigerator and a Upright freezer. They were offering 10% off $397 and higher. They also offered "Free next day delivery". Well, they only gave me 10% off the refrigerator but refused on the freezer even though it was $399, they said because it was marked down already because of damage. Then the "free next day delivery" was actually 3 days later. I asked the delivery person if they only delievered on Saturday's, they said no, but they were seriously understaffed and they needed to hire more people. I complained to Lowes Web site, they promised a manager to call within 24 hours. Well, it was more like 55 hours, and since I wasn't home, he left a message, but didn't Identify himself. When I again complained to Lowes, they said they would have a manager contact me within 48 hours (because of the Holiday) well, here it is, again 55 or so hours and NOBODY has called me. If this is how they treat the customers, I hope they go out of business. What a sham, they advertise one thing and do another!

I'd heard it from many sources but never believed it. Despite being constantly disappointed with Lowes (Blowes), I tried to hold true - but can't anymore. THEY SELL RE-MANUFACTURED POWER TOOLS. And they try to pass them off as "new". This can't be legal.... It was confirmed with a purchase of a Troy-Built trimmer ($149 - cheaper at Sears and trully is "new" at Sears). How do I know??? Even though the box looked as if it had never been opened (aren't they slick???)... 1)The hardware bag was slit open with a knife and missing parts 2)The Directions had a persons hand-written notes on it. 3)When I stated all of this to the "returns" person at Blowes - she said "I can't comment on that". No denial... NICE - where is the Better Business Bureau when you need them???? Go to Home Depot or Sears or anywhere - but stay away from Blowes.

i work at Lowe's in Oregon, and most of you are correct. i think there is an oxygen shortage at this place. 90% of the employees are completely incompetent. it backwards from the rest of the world. i think they started a prehire IQ test,if your IQ is above 48 you cant work there if your IQ is lower than your shoe size they make you management. we recently got a new store manager, almost all of the competent people walked, he is so so so dumb. its like watching a baby discoving his own feet,he just sails through oblivious to whats going on around him. please people, when lowe,s messes up, please call the corporate office its the only way to change things.there are still people out there like myself who honestly care about you as the customer, you people pay my bills. and just think about it this way, you guys get what you need and you get to leave. imagine what it must be like for me to go in there every day,you guys can change that company. corporate listens to you guys thank you

They installed a refrigerator last month and had trouble connecting the water line, but when they left, they said it was "fine". The next day, I had water dripping through the ceiling of my finished basement. The fix was easy - I just tightened the coupling at the back of the fridge and it's been great since, but now I have water damage... I called Lowe's and all they offered was to give me a new water line... which I didn't need. So without question, I am never shopping there again!

Bought Schuler cabinets for a kitchen at Lowe's NJ. What a disaster, they sent an installer who measured, designer orders incorrect size cabs. Cabs ship but all of wall cabs are missing. Spent a week trying to find out where my cabs are, when will they deliver. Called store repeatedly for a week trying to reach a manager with no success. Finally called corporate office and complained, cancelled $3K appliance order. Finally reach an "acting" manager who informs me that though we paid $14K for cabs there is nothing Lowe's can do except wait for the supplier rep to tell them when they find the lost cabinets???!! How is that my problem? Terrible service, terrible attitude, we won't buy anything else at Lowe's and will post our story in enough places to hopefully save people the aggravation we have suffered. As of now, we still have no clue when what happened to the cabs shipped over a week ago or when we might receive the rest of our kitchen cabinets. What a disaster this has been.

Lowes' Lufkin, TX delivery service person could not pass a common sense test if he had the answers...He could not see the problem of backing a loaded jitney 9 feet onto my lawn delivering a big load of fencing to the home across the street....(in a newer developed subdivision with great lawns) I want to get a Restaining Order to keep Lowes delivery trucks from my block...Can management be blamed for bad judgement and training ---and how did this guy pass a driving test?

Normal, competative prices on competative items such as drywall and lumber. Appliances, tools and hardware are priced less than at Ace or Home Depot. Example: 1/2", Plex crimping tool at HD was $80.00+, same tool at Lowe's was $60.00+. I have had real good service at Lowe's up until a week ago I was getting some laminate flooring. All loaded and ready to go except for the underlayment that was way up on one of their top storage racks and I needed a employee to pull it. They called twice for someone and I waited there for a good 30 minutes before I decided to roll the big stair-on-wheels right into the main isle (leaving about two feet on one side to get around) and asked the next employee I saw if he would please get my underlayment down, 'pointing at the ladder'. Generally I get good service there though.

I don't find much difference in products, price or service quality between Lowe's and Home Depot, but the Lowes stores are sometimes newer and a little more finished in appearance, in my experience. Both are pretty good for the run-of-the-mill products, but don't look for a good selection of lumber, like hardwoods and hardwood ply, unless you are happy with basic oak. Also, HD seem to have dropped Rigid Tools, which are the best, and I'd be grateful for a recommendation on where I can get them now.
The high-end Home Depot Design stores are very good for better selection of pretty nice home decor and improvement goods, along with appliances, etc. Very similar to The Great Indoors in product selection and quality.
I second the opinion on cypress mulch. It used to be that mulch was a by-product of the milling of cypress lumber. Now, I understand entire trees are being chipped due to the high demand for mulch.

Lowes should get in step with the Earth Day concept and save our Cypress trees by discontinuing the sale of Cypress mulch. There are far better choices that make more sense in light of the disappearing Cypress. Make Ecolyptus and Melaleuca more readily available.

If you have to go to a big box this is the one.

Lowe's employees are the ones Home Depot rejects... because they know absolutely nothing. And don't even try to get money back from a Lowe's rebate. What a joke. Don't shop there!

My wife works as a vendor for Lowes stores. Over the last three weeks a male employee at the Riverdale, Ga Lowes, Hwy 85 & 138 has said several sexually expilicit remarks to her. The management seems not to care. If you or a friend experianced similar treatment by a male at this store or if you are a current or ex female employee that knows about this behavior at this store please email at harassedatlowes@comcast.net
