 | katy052480 (0) 07/23/2008 | I have noticed that a lot of people, especially when they first switch to EVO, seem to notice the loose stools and release of noxious gas from their pooches. They best advice that I ever got was to put plain yogurt on the top of the EVO. It cured the gas and runny stools within days and works wonderfully! Hope it helps. :)

 | cleonard (0) 07/23/2008 | I just started my 3 chocolate labs on EVO. I have Mom (Saydie)-12 yrs old and 2 of her pups (Bonnie & Clyde)-9 yrs old. My reasoning was mainly allergy related. Both females chew their paws incessantly and Saydie has had miserable ear infections for years. My vet has given her antibiotics, but I wanted to find something better. The dogs have been working it in for 3 days now, so I have a long way to go till they are on it exclusively, but reading the comments has me a little worried.
As soon as I brought the dog food in the door, Saydie wanted it. This is a FIRST. She only eats when pushed and given some sort of topping on the dry food. She wanted to eat this one out of the bag! I am happy with that.
The problem is that I just went through a scare with Saydie's liver enzymes and do not want to do that again. I had put them on Canidae and she stopped eating. She would literally pick out the Canidae and not eat it. When I took her in for blood work, her liver enzymes were over 2700!! We had an ultrasound and her liver was enlarged, all other organs fine. I had, in the meantime stopped the Canidae(which may or may not have been the cause) and put her back on Eukanuba for Labs. Luckily the vet suggested that we wait a week and check again because it could have been caused by blockage from the food change or infection or anything. We got another test done a week later and they were down to 320. Now, a month later, they are normal. Am I pushing my luck on this food? THere are not other problems with Saydie. Bonnie is diabetic and gets insulin twice a day, and Clyde is just one big happy bear of a boy. This food sounds fantastic and I want my dogs to get the best.

 | kaspbo (0) 07/19/2008 | I have been using EVO for about 3 months for my 9yrs old 50lbs mix breed. First Chicken formula where she gained so much weight I decided to switch to reduced fat formula. I did see a great improvement in less shedding. I switched foods very slowly and am now on the reduced fat completely. In the last week she has become severely dehydrated and is drinking so much that she urinated in the house twice (hasn't done this in 8 years). She has also suffered from terrible upset bowels. I have her on rice now to calm the stomach but I am going to have to switch foods. Her symptoms are the same as the pom listed in a previous post.

 | SandhillAB (0) 07/13/2008 | This is a fine food. It is quite expencive but all of your "natural" or holistic foods are. Now, the protein in this food is very high, 42% and many dogs simply can no tolerate this. High protein can cause a major problem with kidneys in male dogs. So, do not overfeed or free feed this food. EVO is great as a supplement to replace some of the dog's normal diet and to add some extra "goods". I have a dog that has mild skin allergies and once she hit a year old and went through her first heat, lost a little muscle mass and just didn't look her best. I put her on EVO Red Meat just to supplement her normal diet (replace 1/2 of her current diet with EVO) and honestly, in less than two weeks I noticed a change in both her skin and overall look. She picked muscle mess back up and simply seemed to feel better. I did end up stopping with her old food all together because I don't think she needs such high protein even though she is a very active working dog (protection sport and weight pull). I have sence switched from EVO To Nature's Variety because I do not want to feed the high protein and I do not want to place her back on her old food. So, Nature's Variety Salmon has been working very well; moderate to high protein, soy, wheat, corn, flavorings free. LOL-there is my Nature's Variety plug! Evo is great though-just be wise about it.

 | 2WonderDogs (0) 07/01/2008 | I will be buying my first bag of EVO red meat small bites for my 1.5yr heeler mix. When we first got him he was orphaned 4wks so was bottle fed. He had a terrible time gaining muscle mass. I was ignorantly feeding him pedigree. Following a vets advise I found a high protein diet Nutro High Energy. "Cowboy" is an ultra high energy dog currently on Nutro High Energy with 21% protein, which he was doing superior on for over a year, gaining great muscle mass, shiny coat, and always being happy, then it seems as though Nutro changed something in their food, Cowboy was having severe diarrhea, the vet couldn't find any medical reason for it, several people i've spoken with have noticed the change in their dogs they've been feeding Nutro as well. (Nutro denies any change in their food). I'm looking forward to EVO!
I do have concerns on switching my couch-potato jack russell :) She's mixed with chihuahua so I think that's where she gets the laziness... My 16yr old jrt whom NEVER slowed down had passed away:( So we got "Victoria" hoping for another Super-hyper active dog, but she turned out to be more of a throw pillow... Any how I've already gotten her off Nutro on to a homemade diet (canned food makes her gassy) but frankly fixing a homemade diet is getting to be too much for me (I'm a stay at home mom, full-time online college student, and have an online business) I can certainly add some water to dry food though...
Is there an evo food that small lazy dogs do well on?

 | danyle (0) 06/25/2008 | I have worked in the pet industries for 10 years now and would just like to offer the following advice for people trying new foods for their dog. Every dog is different and will not always react differently to the same foods as any other dog. I work in a store where we only sell higher end dog foods such as wellness, solid gold, nutro, merrick, and all the others. I sell this food every day to people but at home use Pedigree with fantastic results. Please just remember to change your dog slowly to a new food, give it at least 1 month to see changes in skin and coat, and don't be upset just becuse I kind doesn't work for you. Hopefully you have a helpful pet store in your area. If you don't call one for advice. If they won't take the time to talk to you about your problem they shouldn't get your business.

 | agaentbunny (0) 06/24/2008 | I read a few reviews on here that said that EVO was meant for working dogs only and that small dogs don't do well on it because of the high protein level which could lead to kidney problems. I have 3 yorkies on EVO, so I emailed Innova with my concerns. This was the reply:
Dear pet lover,
Thank you for contacting us about our products. In long-term feeding studies, EVO has performed extremely well and no adverse conditions have been detected. Further, there have been a number of myths promulgated regarding links between protein and kidney failure, aging, and other health related issues. Repeated research studies have simply not been able to substantiate these myths: Quite the opposite. Much of this work has led us to a better understanding of the role that high quality proteins have on health, disease prevention, and even recovery. The EVO is perfectly safe for smaller breed dogs as well as being suitable for puppies.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information or if you have any questions.

 | minachan282 (0) 06/17/2008 | When I first got my pom I had him on the red meat formula due to his chicken allergies, shortly thereafter he was inhaling water as though he was severely dehydrated, his stools were foul smelling and dark and he was urinating everywhere. We kept him on this diet for a full week to give it a shot but with no improvement. I think this may be great for working breeds or very active dogs but the protein levels were much too high for my house dog.

 | poodlemom (0) 06/16/2008 | my 9 year old golden retriever does great on this product! When we adopted him he was on Pedigree had horrible breath, nasty, dry coat, and lacked energy. We started switching him to Evo and he had absolutely no problems switching over and preferred Evo to the Pedigree.
Since we switched him his coat is gorgeous and he has the energy of a puppy and also no more horrible breath, his teeth are white again (not covered in horrible plague as much as before). We are completely satisfied with this product and even though it may not be the best for every dog it's the best for our dog.

 | RottnLove (0) 06/12/2008 | I really LOVE the idea of this food, but my Rottweiler keeps getting ear infections! I rotate between Origen Fish, Adult, and Evo Red Bites, but her ears seem to be worse with the Evo. Is this a problem for anyone else? When we do switch the food, the introduction is gradual so I am not sure if that's the problem. The only complaints I have ever heard about this food is that there might be too much protein for a small dog - but she's a Rottweiler! What's up?

 | jpm1022 (0) 06/05/2008 | We have 5 dogs (2 full bred Cockers and 3 rescue dogs of mixed breed) and switched them from Nutro Ultra to Evo. Did the transition over 3 weeks without any problems....no gas, no loose stools, etc.
We feed them less per day and keep them on the low end of the recommended amount for their weight. There has been no weight gain and the cocker with allergies (chronic ear yeast infections and biting his itchy feet) has done very well. My only recommendation, especially if switching from Iams, Science Diet or a grocery store food, is to make the switch gradually over 3-4 weeks.
This food is worth the extra cost.

 | riiggsy (0) 05/30/2008 | The issues that everyone seems to have with the Evo is because the dogs are used to a lower protein diet (essentially a not as nutritious diet) so their livers are not strong enough to break down the protein. Wean the dog off of Evo onto Innova, it has less protein which will be easier to digest, but still a nutritious diet. I had this problem when I wanted to put my chihuahuas on a raw diet.

 | BellasMama (0) 05/14/2008 | I have a year and a half female Bullmastiff, (Bella) 117 pounds ....We have been thru the gament on dog food issue's!! It all started with the dog food scare she was a part of that, so for her first year and 3 months she was getting homemade food instead of canned with a kibble. She developed "the itchy's" and thats when I started to try every dry food that was made ( several months back). I have had her on the EVO red meat dry for about month and a half and she still gets her Halo spots stew or a all organic 100% chicken or turkey as a topper. She has had VERY bad gas since on the EVO and the itchys are still bothering her, her stools are black which was scary at first and they smell bad. I have researched so many foods and only want natural/organic/holistic stuff going in her. A few of the post mentioned the ash content, Now of course Im concerned about that !! She gets a cup and a half with a wet topper in the morning and the same at night, with a 1 or 2 times a week breakfast of scrambled eggs, plain yogurt, blueberries with the kibble. She is not very active for the most part is a couch potato She thinks she is a lap dog! Would love to hear more feed back from others that have large breed dogs and how they are doing on it!!

 | Erin0101 (0) 05/07/2008 | I just switched my 12 year old Collie from Medical to Evo because I thought I would give her the best. She's been on Evo now for approximately 3 weeks (weaned her off the Medical slowly) and farts all the time. Not only that, but I got concerned because I noticed she hasn't been pooping. Then today there was a hard poop on the living room floor. After checking her out "down there" I discovered another hard poop stuck to her fur and she was a mess down there! I'm going to look for something else.

 | kpusa78 (3) 05/03/2008 | Update..... I wanted to try this again on my girl as it has such great reviews and she liked it at first, but has gradually started to not favor it so much. I have never, ever seen her not devour her food, so this is just odd. She has really bad gas with the food, so unsure if it is just upsetting her stomach and she is avoiding it or if she just has grown to dislike it. It is a great food though...still curious about the high ash, their website says it is because of all the meat, but Core, Orijen, TO, and TOTW are nowhere close to this ash level and they have just as high protein levels. Oh well...still good food.
My girl did not do well on this at all. The ingredients show to be good, but the high ash content makes me curious about the quality of those ingredients. I once thought this was a superior food, but no I am having second thoughts....still better than allot of other foods out there though.

 | jaspersmom1 (2) 05/03/2008 | Appears to be a good food, but it was too rich for my guy. He has a sensitive stomach and I think it was too much for him. The ingredients are wonderful though. I can only use the 95% canned meats for a topper due to his food allergies, but he got a very rumbly tummy from it. I switched to the Wellness 95% canned meats and the less ingredients seemed to help. Again, I do think this food is top quality for dogs who can handle it

 | Cathleen2u (0) 04/28/2008 | Before we bought our Chihuahua puppy, we researched the internet for over three weeks (20+ hours) on the health and well being of our new-to-be adopted family member. We wanted to make certain she had the best food with a high protein base as dogs are carnivores with meat eating teeth and intestinal tracts with no grains as they do not have the enzymes or intestinal systems to break down these types of food. This diet would enable our new puppy to have a good foundation in life with regard to her bones, teeth, organs, skin and temperament. In addition, we wanted to try to keep vet visits to a minimum. After a truly exhaustive study and the blessing of meeting an amazing man at a Women's Show in Seattle whom happens to be a biology major (and can hold a candle to any Naturopathic Vet or Doctor) with an emphasis in nutrition and almost twenty years in the pet food industry, we made the decision to let our puppy test our top three choices in three bowls side by side: Taste of the Wild (Roasted Bison and Venison Blend), Innova EVO (chicken blend) and Innova Puppy Formula. She absolutely loves the Taste of the Wild and EVO close second. I believe she may like the type of meat better in the Taste of the Wild, so we will try the red meat blend of the EVO as the gentleman stated above raved about the human grade quality of meat in the EVO food and the fact that his dogs are on it. BTW, Wellness is a take off of this product, but not as high of quality meat or protein. She was weaned on Pedigree and when we tried to give her a sample a week later she wouldn't even go near it!!! Our puppy's health and disposition are amazing with her coat looking better and better each day and her droppings having less odor! We hope her breeder reads this website and makes a healthy change for their Moms and Pops, as well as their pups. I highly recommend this food for the health and longevity of your pet - give your dog the test and your fears a rest!!!
P.S. It is well worth the extra money to invest in a high quality pet food for your pet(s) and it may even save you money in vet bills and possibly the life of your pet. I have found that the local feed stores that appreciate and stock high quality pet foods are the most reasonably priced (ie. Issaquah Feed Store, Issaquah, WA). Best of luck!!!

 | Jersey1 (0) 04/14/2008 | I introduced EVO to my lab about 4 months ago. The reason for the switch in dog food is because of the carcinogens that I learned of in other dog foods. One main reason was that my dog's coat was full of dander and he was constantly shedding. While I have noticed a change for the better in my dog's coat, I still see a considerable amount of dry skin. He is a black lab and we are currently living in Montana, a very dry climate. We will be moving back to Florida very soon. Is his dry skin a hereditary trait, or will we see a change in his coat upon arrival to a humid climate? We are looking for the best possible food for our lab and would appreciate any advice concerning his diet. Thanks so much!

 | kelcee1987 (0) 04/09/2008 | I love Natura (the makers of Innova, Innova Evo, and California Natural) dog food. I've worked in the pet industry for almost 5 years and they are one of the few independently owned dog food companies whose food is readily available at smaller pet retail stores. I have two pit mixes who do awesome on the Evo. My Great Dane is on the Cal Nat though because the Evo was a little rich for him. That's the only thing with Evo, some dogs don't take well to the super high protein content. Awesome food though! Oh, and Evo is considered an all lifestages food. So you can feed it to your puppy, adult, or senior dog. We Americans have this strange thing with lifestages. There HAS to be puppy food for puppies and senior food for seniors. Wild dogs all eat the same thing no matter how old they are! Wolf puppies don't eat a different part of the deer than their adult packmates! The only reason Natura makes different lifestage foods with regular Innova and Cal Nat is because most people don't want to accept an all lifestage food. Take Canidae for example, they only make all lifestage diets. Same with Nature's Variety. If you want to feed an "instinct" diet (high protein, high quality, little/no grain, very similar to what animal would eat in the wild) don't worry about lifestages! Once the pup is weaned it can eat Evo! If the stool is still runny after a few weeks maybe the Evo is too rich. In that case try Cal Nat. Yay Natura! Wellness sucks!

 | kaliya5 (0) 04/06/2008 | After doing a lot of research on the best pet foods available, I decided on EVO for my two small terriers. I was worried at first becuase I read some eviews that stated this food might not be good for smaller dogs. That may be the case for small toy breeds, but my dogs hae done very well. They are 12lb and 25lb terriers with lots of energy and have thrived on this food.
I do recommend introducing it very gradually, as most pet foods have a lot of grain and this food is grain-free, as well much higher in protein content. I spent about 4 weeks transitioning Matilda and Zigfried to the food and had no problems with stool or stomach issues. Their coats, which were always good, are now briliant and they are happier and livlier than ever. Matilda is a notirious picky eater, but she loved EVO from her first tasting, and even tried to eat the EVO kibble pieces out of her bowl while leaving her old pet food behind!

 | jltmburke (0) 04/05/2008 | We have two boxers who are on EVO Red Meat Small Bites, and while they love it and skin conditions/eye "boogies"/other allergies have cleared up, they both have very loose stools that are VERY smelly. They don't often get treats (we just don't use them much), so we're pretty sure its the Evo. They both gobble it up, so we know they like it (we do get it wet). We are concerned that the protein content is too high. Any comments from anyone who has experienced the stool problems? We would appreciate it!

 | twodogs28 (0) 04/02/2008 | My two dogs have been on Innova Evo for 6 months and I find it to be an
excellent food for them. They eat it in the morning and have a raw food diet at night. My golden retriever has osteosarcoma and when she was diagnosed almost 6 months ago this is when I made the change to Innova I needed a diet that was grain free and high in protein and as close to raw as possible. She is doing extremely well and had no problems switching to this food. You have to feed less then what it says because of weight gain. I use a holistic vet and he highly recommends Innova especially if you have a dog with a compromised immune system. My lab who is 4 is very healthy and also gets the same diet as my golden and I have found that with both, especially the lab that it has cut down on the shedding, those nasty eye "boogies" their breath is good and also my goldens ears have never been cleaner. So I give this kibble a high mark.

 | yoonakawrn (0) 04/01/2008 | Berniesmom, due to the high protein content I would not feed this food to a "puppy" especially one that young. Too much protein can trigger a growth rate that is just too fast for them and can lead to other problems. This is an excellent food. My pomeranian, Samson, has been on it since he was 10 months old. Before that I had him on Innova puppy food (it's in a marroonish/brown bag. He did wonderfully on the puppy food (skin and coat always shiney and healthy). Innova was actually the only food he eats. I would keep him on the puppy food until he's at least 10 months old (for small dog). As a rating for Evo.. I give it 5 stars. It has a very high protein content, but if you have a working dog (or a dog like mine, who doesn't eat and mainly just "picks" throughout the day) this is a good food for you. If your dog is prone to overeating, you have to watch him/her VERY carefully on this stuff. It's some great, rich food.

 | TeresaG (29) 03/31/2008 | I recently responded to this food as just Innova, and not EVO ~ so I need to say, while the ingredients are good, please be aware that the ADULT food is 42% crude protein. That is VERY high for most dogs, so if you do not have a Working Dog ~ ie. Hunting Dog, Police Dog, etc. just be careful about the weight if you have a not so active dog.

I've read all of the reviews about EVO and think that it's a wonderful food, but I'm concerned about giving it to him so young. Is it a problem to feed this to young small breed dogs? I had also ordered some Orijen but am now unsure I will want to even try it with him UNLESS he starts not doing well on the red meat EVO, but I have investigated a LOT OF DOG FOOD and both are EXCELLENT CHIOICES however EVO is part of the Natura family and they make Innova another top of the line food but with grain.

 | smthcollie (0) 02/18/2008 | So far my dog has improved coat, no problem switching - is more readily available than Cal. Nat. by Innova so decided to switch. Added 1/4 C. to his 2 C. of food for 2 weeks then switched over. He will eat about 1/2 to 1 C less of food a day compared to California Natural which is a great food for a dog with allergies and you will feed less than a lower quality dog food. It takes a dog up to 3 weeks to build new bacteria for a new food so switching slowly is important. Any food can cause loose stools if switched too quickly. My dog is young and active.

 | bellybaby (0) 02/15/2008 | I purchased some EVO (red meat kibble) out of absolute desperation for my 10 month German Shepherd. She was raised on Nutro but started developing an allergy. I switched to Iams-big mistake- and then proplan after the advice of the vet. She hated the proplan and wouldn't even eat it. She would get yeast ear infections and chew her feet all night.
She has been on the Evo for a week with no problems. I have never seen her eat kibble like this before. She loves it! I tried transitioning her over but she would only pick the Evo out of the other kibble.
Her allergy symptoms have just about cleared up and i finally can get some sleep at night. She also is finally gaining some weight- yet she eats less.
I am concerned though that there might be too much protein for her or calcium. She is still a puppy. In the winter her exercise isn't as much as summer. Right now she gets about an hour of walking and 2 hours of active play per day. So I was thinking I could mix this food in with something else to help balance things out. What can I mix it with that won't kick up the allergy symptoms again?? Rice?

 | jimmy703 (0) 02/07/2008 | We switched our 2 Senior Goldens from SD and Nutro Ultra 2 months ago. We did the switch gradually over 1 month. No loose stools and no negative reactions at all. We cut back from 3 cups a day each to 2 1/2. No weight gain, they love the taste, and you can see they are more muscular and peppy. Also, we have 2 Papillons that are 10 months old. We decided 7 days ago to put them on EVO Small Bites. Tried to gradually introduce EVO however it didn't work well. They picked out the old food (CS) and only ate the EVO. So we could not do the gradual thing and just switched to EVO all at one time. Again, no loose stools or negative reactions. I guess we are lucky, or this good is really great because we just switched 4 dogs to EVO and zero negative problems. Great food

 | magnusdoug (1) 02/06/2008 | I have been feeding my 140 lb bullmastiff/rotti cross EVO for a couple of years, and he's been great on it. He's arthritic and therefore I can't exercise him as much as I would normally do, but he's lean and looks perfect, and although some are against it, I free feed, and he probably only eats 2-3 cups a day. He also isn't a big fan of Chicken Soup.

 | beth82 (2) 02/04/2008 | I like the principles on which EVO is based, and I have to give it credit for being the first grain free kibble. However, I think that there are better options than this available now, if you're looking for grain-free. EVO works very well for some dogs, but for many it is too rich or too high in ash. It should not be fed to puppies because of the high calcium level.

 | frontierrots (0) 02/04/2008 | I have fed Evo since the day it came out. For most of the dogs I mix it with (the same company's) Healthwise Chicken & oatmeal for no better reason than to cut the cost but keep the ingredient quality high. (we raise and show dogs so have several mouths to feed) Some of the dogs also get raw with this combination and sick dogs or dogs with cancer get straight Evo
The protein levels are NOT too high. A raw diet is as high or higher in dry matter protein levels (depending on the meat fed).
What happens is many people feed too much or don't add enough water to it. You do have to add a decent amount of water to it.
For pups this is often not rec for large breeds because MOST people keep their pups too fat. Again I mix it 50/50 with healthwise Puppy chicken and oatmeal AND raw for all pups and have had excellent results. BUT I keep my pups lean and do not overfeed. The calcium levels are often claimed to be too high for pups. If this concerns you feed meat with it (equal parts) or mix it as I do.
My dogs cannot tolerate any kitchen sink type kibble (Innova green bag, Wellness, canidae etc) but do just fine on Evo and healthwise

 | jdh1259 (0) 01/30/2008 | My two Boxers are very allergy prone and they just love Innova EVO dog food. I'm glad to have found a food that is both healthy, protein rich and grain free that they will eat. They eat the chicken and turkey and potato variety.

 | midas (0) 01/27/2008 | Switched My 10 yr Golden Retriver from Science Diet ZD to EVO Large Bites. She had serious allergy problems that why only ZD kept it in check until I tried EVO. She has been on EVO for 8 weeks now. No allergies, No problems at all. I am so glad she can have a much better quality food with out the allery problem now. I guess it was the grains in the other foods causing the problems

 | monekka6 (0) 01/24/2008 | I have a Boston Terrier/Pug cross and I've recently started feeding him EVO Small Bites. It has saved his life. He had been suffering from deep tissue infections in his paws for almost 6 months and through a process of elimination (not to mention invasive vet procedures and medications), discovered it was because he is allergic to grain. He does so well on this food now. His infection cleared up and the vet was so impressed he stopped his medication and asked me what I was feeding him! He has had NO symptoms, has smaller, solid stool and he no longer farts constantly. Even his eyes have cleared up considerably. He doesn't fuss about his kibble anymore either. He loves it. When he was transitioning, after about a week he began to spit his old food out on the floor piece by piece and only ate the EVO! He's lean and healthy and back to being himself! I would recommend this for any dogs, especially grain-compromised ones. He loves the EVO grain free dog treats too.

 | deb371 (0) 01/15/2008 | I have used the Evo small bites for my Boston terriers and Yorkies. They love this food, beautiful coats and nice stools. Excellant food. I also feed the large breed to my spayed female pitty, she does wonderful on this food. I rotate with several of the top brands.

 | BlindPo (0) 01/04/2008 | My American Bulldog mix has been on this since we adopted him about 9 months ago (He was approx. 18 mos. old). We started with regular Innova then moved him to the EVO Red Meat large bites, which he loves, but it gives him the squirts - he also farts like mad, but I was told that was a bulldog thing. I think it's just too rich for him. Does anyone have any suggestions on which foods, that aren't as high in protein that I might try? Thanks!

 | Sadie7 (0) 12/26/2007 | Hi - I tried a can of EVO 95% meat and my 15 year old dog loves it but I am having to mix with Science Diet Senior canned which she is not liking anymore and not eating as much. The problem? She is diabetic and on 15/16 units of insulin BID and also has Cushings Disease and is on Trylostane for that. Her glucose is very high and out of control right now. She is not getting much excersise at all and I read the comments about this food being best for working dogs. Do you think it is OK for a dog with her health issues? The vets I have been to all push Science Diet so there is no point in asking them for recommendations. She loves EVO but is it OK for her? Thanks for any help or suggestions. I'm trying really hard to get her diabetes back under control but she has been drinking excessive water amounts again. Sigh.

 | 3qtkidzZoe (0) 12/24/2007 | I am a new owner to a 12 week old Black lab. Unfortunately she has been on 4 different dog foods. Science Diet, Solid Gold, Premium Edge and currently Chicken Soup. She does not seem to really care for the Chicken Soup. She is just picking at her food. I know she has been changed alot, but I am just trying to find something she will eat and enjoy. He stool is not solid (really soft but not diarrhea). The protein levels in the Innova is a concern. Is is too high for a puppy. I am looking to try Innova large breed puppy. I am nervous to change her again. Any suggestions?

 | pepenicky (1) 12/20/2007 | I am in the process of switching from chicken soup to evo. The chicken soup dog food is for the most part liked by my dog, but he really loves the evo. The one with the fierce-looking Boston Terrier on the bag LOL. Stools are 'healthier' and Pepe's coat is super shiny, he stinks less too. I also tried the evo canned turkey / chicken formula, mixed with the dry, and he just loves it. We have a winner!

 | stonemonkey55 (1) 12/20/2007 | I am very happy with this food. The transition period wasn't too bad. My pitbull puppie loves it. Just used Merrick, now Innova, in a month or so, going to cycle in some Orijen food. Don't really notice any immediate changes to my dogs but their poop is more firm and solid, slightly smaller than before. Gas is bad, hoping it will subside with time. The plus side is that the dogs absolutely love it. I am feeding them the Red Meat version.

 | StanW (0) 12/15/2007 | I have two poms. I put them on evo 7 months ago. There energy level doubled overnight. The male doesnt like it anymore, but the girl loves it. I was feeding them Canidae before and they didnt like it. The male is very picky what he likes. I'm still searching for a dog food he likes.

 | FLJustin727 (0) 11/29/2007 | All of my friends use Diamond or EVO for there dogs ( Pitbulls, Lab/Boxer, and other hunting breads). There dogs love it, my brother-in-law has a Lab/Boxer/Pitbull mixed. Her coat is so soft, and u can just see the muscle bulging. I have a 1 year old pitbull myself and i love to bring her out running or let her play with her rope toy. She plays with it hours on end. My brother-in-law has been trying to get my dog on it but just recently have i put my dog on it, my mother thinks its wrong cuz the dog hardly gets any food, but if i want the dog to be healthy, she cant eat all she wants. She was on iams ( McDonalds ), since she was born, and i slowly switched her over. She seems to be gaining more muscle in her back and front upper legs now. I would recommend this dog food for any pet that gets outside exercise everyday for hours, not for a house dog that sits and sleeps all day.

 | howlingwolf (0) 11/26/2007 | Fed my Great Dane+Rottweiler mix dog this food for 1 year. During that time, she would eat grass all the time, fart a lot, be hungry all the time, beg a lot, poop a lot and have diahorrea occasionally. My dog is a very high energy dog that plays fetch everyday for an hour and a walk for an hour. She started urinating in the house involuntarily and I took her to the vet. Vet said the protein levels are too high in the blood, kidneys are under a lot of pressure and asked me to stop feeding this food. My rationale: If 42% protein in this food is not for a high energy and athletic dog like mine, then what kind of a dog is this suitable for! Although the ingredients are good, protein levels are too high for any dog and most of it is not digestible. So this food is not good. Reviews from people who fed their dogs this food for more than 8 months have not been good. So please use the brain cells you got and analyse and stay away from this food.
