 | Highwinder (0) 01/15/2008 | This is an amazing round, like a laser out to 100 yards. I have to keep the rabbit herds down around my parents place, they're digging the place up like professional farm equipment. I was having a problem with Remington 22LR subsonic hollowpoint 22LR not only passing right on through the rabbits (producing a very dangerous riccochet situation), but the injured rabbits would still manage scamper away to go die somewhere in the bushes. Because of noise limitations in my area, I have to use Remongton subsonic ammo, wich is a bit lower power. Because of this, I also had to shift to a rapid-firing Ruger 10-22 just to get 2-3 quick shots off to drop a large rabbit before it could hop away if I didnt get a head or lung shot. Unacceptable. On extremely large rabbits, one single shot with 17Mach2 rolls them over dead at 100 yards. No twitching - just dead. Every bit of the energy from that 2100fps bullet is absorbed by the rabbit because of that incredible Hornady V-Max bullet. Hit them under 30-40 yards and this bullet disembowels them through a rather surprising exit wound. It hits HARD, and is surprisingly quiet. This is a 100 round bullet for any serious killing of animals rabbit-sized and under. I'm talking BIG rabbits. Compared to the 17HMR, it only has 25 yards less of an effective killing range (17HMR is 125 yards before it becomes useless), so save yourself some money. Besides, 17Mach2 is a fantastic upgrade to a Ruger 10-22, the 17 upgrade barrel kits bolt right on in less than 10 minutes. 22LR absolutely sucks compared to this round, I'll probably never touch it again. It's just no contest - remember, 17Mach2 pumps a Hornady V-Max bullet down the barrel, at 2100 fps, not some crappy lead pellet at only 1100-1500fps. The results are astounding.

 | LowTrunkOzz (0) 11/10/2005 | I have this hot little round fired through a Marlin bolt action Model 917M2. I LOVE it for squirrel hunting, as this little tack driver is amazing for head shots and I hate eating buck shot! Why get it over the 22 LR? I think that because of it's speed (about 2100 fps) it's also a pretty good round for grounhoggin', which is pretty popular around here at about 100 yds. Great fun to shoot, and easy on the pocket. Get ya one!
