I was in Munich in 1972. I witnessed the tragedy and the triumph. Olga is one of the best sports memories I have. She was my first crush...I was only 12 at the time but...Granted, she will probaly will not be remembered as one of the greats but anyone who witnessed her performance on the uneven bars will never forget it. And "the fall" too. She wasn't to shabby on the floor exercises either!

She wasn't invincible but she tried skills that were unimaginable at the time and usually performed them with stellar flair.

I like her routine on UB but not her personality.

She was beatable. But what she tried to do was impossible-and she usually succeeded.

There have been better, more composed all-round gymnasts,(she didn't win overall gold),but her lithe grace and cheeky expressiveness-one flirty flick of the finger and the audience was hers-,allied to a fragile vulnerability, captured the hearts of millions and shone like a radiant beam of light in the 72 Olympics.

She brought moves and many routines no one had ever seen before. In my mind she was the greatest.
