The paragon of what a combat arms officer should be - smart, loyal, fair, and with just a hint of deviousness when the situation demands it. A guy who takes care of his troops - perhaps the most essential quality of all. Last year, a guy I know who has a 1944 jeep was asked to provide his jeep for a local parade in which Winters was appearing (somewhere near Hershey, PA, where Winter has a farm). He drove Winters and said that he's really an unassuming guy, pretty much the way he was portayed in the series.

A truely remarkable man. His character, steadfast leadership & committment, and most of all, his love for his men, is admirable. A true American Hero. He deserves the Medal Of Honor.

What can I say about this guy? There is no word to describe this guy. A genuine american hero and leader... When real Winters talk during bob episodes, I can see these qualities in few words he speaks. It must have been a honor to serve under him...

A great leader who should have gotten the Medal of Honor for what he did in Normandy. He was nominated for it, but only received the Distinguished Service Cross. He was well-liked by his men, made good decisions and genuinely cared about those who were under his command. You can read more about Major Winters and his extraordinary contributions to our freedom and even sign a petition nominating him for the Medal of Honor at: http://www.petitiononline.com/Winters/petition.html

A real American hero and someone who should be emulated. He was the ideal Officer, tough but fair, smart with a good head on his shoulders. Cared about his men and led them well. Respected by everyone. All around a fine example of what an Officer should be.
