 | luridlloyd (9) 11/25/2006 | Sen. George Allen used to keep a hangman's noose in his office when he was Governor of Va. No wonder he lost. I hope his type is never again elected

 | drbowler (14) 05/22/2005 | Your neck snaps, thats it. All the jail needs is some rope, and besides don't most prisoners who commit sucide commit it this way?

 | excelsior30 (8) 12/14/2004 | 12/10:Out of all that I listed, I would say that this is the least trerrifying as there are more of them in the 19th century. But I can give it three stars because it is a slow process and if all of a sudden there is evidence that the convict is not guilty for its crime, the officer can let him live a little longer by just cutting off the rope (if he does it in time). This one is reversible. Update: After reading kwyman's comment, I have seen that a person lowered to the gallows twice and still survive for some seconds, but no longer than a minute. It is a slim chance that the person will survive, but from what I see in Wikopedia, it is meant to suffocate; if the neck is snapped, it's all over. It can happen, but it is very rare for someone to survive this execution...

 | MariusQelDroma (36) 12/11/2004 | Excelsior, if the hangman does his job right, the convict's neck is snapped, and no amount of rope-cutting will save him. Therefore, I would disagree with your assertion of hanging being reversible. Secondly, what judge in his right mind would reverse his sentence in time for someone to get an axe and cut someone down from the gallows?

 | helmut (16) 12/09/2004 | Excellent scare factor the rest of the village, but kind of ugly. Though, what form of execution isn't?
