All politics is local. 4

It's increasingly becoming more national and homogeneous, yet polarized with social media and 24 hour news cycles becoming more the reality. Tip O'Neill and the old school machine politicians wouldn't know how to handle the current environment.

All politics is local. 3

This was a statement by Speaker Tip O'Neill that in his day was very true. That is all changing with the advent of 24/7 television coverage and the communications revolution. A politician could do and say one thing in Washington and then do and say something different at home. Most of the homies did not know the difference.

Now they do. For better or for worse, the political issues are becoming national. Home ties still help a pol, but not nearly as much as before. Lots of people no longer care about how many post offices or new roads are brought home.
