Pity that the horse didn't gallop off and leave 'em stranded in the middle of the desert.

Derivative, bland, uninspired band, ripoffs of C,S,N,and Y and George Harrison, amongst others. Not totally terrible, but not good either.

Sister Golden Hair, Lonely People, Horse With No Name, Ventura Highway... I absolutely love all these songs. They take me back to those childhood road trips.

Should be in the RIRHOF. Very underated- they wrote all of their music and had George Martin as their producer- the same George Martin who produced the Beatles.

I would not say they were the best 1970's band, but had some great hits. Excellent driving music! Horse With No Name is the first hit i ever heard. I am glad they made a better greatest hits album that includes their later hits as well.

The best group of the '70's. Sure, they had a few faux-pas (Sister Golden Hair and Muskrat Love), but on balance they were great.

Man, the next crappy middle-aged bar band I hear launching into Sister Golden Hair is getting a faceful of beer glass. I know that the reason that every forty-year old guy with a guitar likes to sing that song is because it is no challenge to even the most mediocre vocalist, but come on!!! These guys had a great sense of melody, so they get 2 stars, but their lyrics were among the most appallingly bad in a decade the sank to new lows in crappy lyrics. Sample lyrics - "The heat was hot" (from Horse with No Name). Really? Hot heat? What'll they think of next? Dirty mud? Wet water? They're also pretty wussy, like a trio of Dan Fogelbergs, although next to Fogelberg they sound like AC/DC.

America .... ah, yes, the band that would have liked to be the Eagles.
