Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands, behind Amsterdam. Rotterdam sits on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas River, and is the 3rd largest port in the world. Rotterdam became a city in 1340 and now maintains a current population of approximately 599,000 residents. Erasmus University is located in Rotterdam, as well as the Boijmans-van Beuningen (art museum), the Euromast, and Delfse Poort, the tallest building in the Netherlands.
