A fine writer with excellent range. Whether the vicious hard-boiled novels of the Scudder series or the lighter, almost comedic novels of the Bernie Rhodenbarr series, he is excellent.

In my view he is the best mystery writer today. His Matthew Scudder books is the best Private Eye series today. Must reads are A stab in the Dark and The Devil Knows You're Dead.
