Smart, stubborn, determined and ambitious. His victory at Alesia is justly legendary, where surrounding the Gauls he is himself surrounded, yet wins an immense victory. A shrewd diplomat (although possibly not quite shrewd enough) he laid the foundations for the Roman Empire and had it not been for his murder, would have been its first emperor.

Led the way for all of the other roman leaders to achieve great things. No one stood in his way.

A man of great ambition, great philospher and a man of unmatchable spirit. Julius caear open the gates for rome to become the greatest civilsation to have ever exsisted. If caesar had not been murdered rome would have conquered the world. His diplomatic style of fighting was superior to all those before and after him. He was a god among men and will never be forgotten.

Ithink Hannibal was better in many ways. I do not like his vision of goverment.

Most well-known Roman Statesman ever. Good military leader, but better at giving the people what they want. He was the reason that Rome became such a grand empire.

Julius Caesar made his mark not only on the Roman world, but on many succeeding generations and cultures. As a general, he did do some amazing things (i.e., contributed significantly to the expansion of the Roman empire). Whether he was truly a military genius or was just to stubborn to give up (witness the seige of Alesia, where essentially he managed to defeat the Gauls even though in effect he was surrounded on two sides) is debatable. But, stubboirn he was, and charismatic as well. Sure, he had a great fighting machine, but it needed a great leader to maximize its value. Incidentally, in case you didn't realize it, the German word Kaiser is a corruption of the Latin Caesar, as is the Russian Tsar or Czar.

Even though Julius Caesar conquered a lot of land, he is way overrated because of Shakespeare's play. Everyone knows his name but there were just as many great leaders as good as him who aren't as famous.

You've heard the saying "crossing the rubicon" well this is where it came from. He became emperor by fighting Rome, so it was hardly easy. Also he spanked the gauls and began expansion into Britain. Rome was on track to break apart after him because of civil wars. Gaius consolidated and fortified rome to the point that Octavian had It pretty easy after Antony died. Also JFK was with Monroe Caesar took CLEOPATRA, damn that is slick j/k.

He just barely gets the four because he was good but he also had the army before he started fighting. His army was superiorly equipped to that of all others. He did crown himself dictator of Rome which is very impressive but showed terrible leadership there. He was so bad that his own supposed friend and senate memebers stabbed him in the back. His army was already well equiped. They could have beaten any army.

Caesar is probably the greatest military leader to ever live. He conquered so much and added onto Rome's territory, making it's land mass massive. His very name ellicts thoughts of absolute power and control. No one was able to unify an empire like Caesar, taking Gaul and North Africa. He also gained so much power in so few years, one of the reasons why he was murdered by senate members. An extremely interesting man.

I was surprised, learning about Caesar, at how innacurate my impressions of the guy were. I used to think of Julius as a crazy tyrant, but he was more humane than I imagined. He had strong morals and good intentions for his empire. Then came those Ides of March... but his grand-nephew kept Rome together did well has a leader.

The famous emperor of Rome. Not a lot about his story to tell, but he conquered half the earth.
