Good lord what a joke of a contest. Even in the horrendous Bears-Pats SB the Pats took a 3-0 lead. But this turkey should've been called off before it even started. I still can't figure out how I actually managed to watch the whole thing. Probably because I was just that desperate for entertainment in the horrible late 80's, the second-worst era of pop culture ever (today being the worst). And then there was the abject horror of Niner players shouting "Threepeat! Threepeat!" to the camera the entire 4th quarter. If there was a rating of zero, I'd give it for this one.

Almost fun to watch simply because of how beautifully perfect the SF offense was.

Let's put it this way: the Denver Broncos of 1989-90 were a very good football team that was capable of winning a Superbowl in any other year. But the fact they were the court jesters at what amounted to a coronation of the 49ers as the team of the 1980s leads to the conclusion that they were truly unfortunate. Arguably the greatest team ever assembled, the 49ers of 1989-90 were a team of destiny. But Super Bowl XXIV was possibly the worst Super Bowl ever, not because of the outcome, but because of how it was virtually non-competitive. It is hard to say how this magnificent 49ers team would have fared against the 1978-79 Pittsburgh Steelers, the 1962 Green Bay Packers, 1994-95 San Francisco 49ers, or even the 1985-86 Chicago Bears. But none of these teams would have so dominated a very good team like the 49ers did these unfortunate Broncos as in this, the most unremarkable of Super Bowls. If Super Bowl XXIII was the greatest Super Bowl ever played, Super Bowl XXIV was the MOST ABYSMAL!

What an absolute stinker. To be honest, the 49ers could have run up the score even more if they really wanted to. Probably the most uninteresting Super Bowl I ever saw.

During this time in the NFL, everybody and the mother knew that the 49ers were an unstoppable juggernaut and this was going to be a one-sided game, and sure enough it was. Rats, Elway foiled again. At least he got his by the end of the decade.
