I think Shriver's development of Special Olympics deserves a lot of merit. It gives those with disabilities a platform to compete and succeed. But her as a person, I'm not all that familiar with.

This past week I was visiting Cape Cod, so the local media up there was on a constant watch regarding Eunice Kennedy Shriver's health. She passed away this week at 88, which is a good long life in my book. Certainly she lived an interesting life as part of the Kennedy family, but what impresses me the most was how she founded and remained involved in Special Olympics. This is an organization that has really helped expose the general public to the joy of working with those with special needs. That organization has done a tremendous job of improving the quality of life of those living with disabilities, while also opening the eyes of volunteers. I think the Special Olympics are a great legacy for Eunice Kennedy Shriver to leave the world.
