 | Jebril (1) 09/16/2007 | It's a short series but it's amazing I don't know if it still goes on Adult Swim but it used to go all the time, the story is amazing and the ending is one of the best in anime history.
Of course what I do get annoyed at is the fact that in every episode they introduce a character and that same character ends up dying it happens 10 or 15 times through out the anime and gets to a point of getting annoying. It is a worthy watch however.

 | BlueOrchid (42) 01/24/2006 | Overall I think it is a great anime - and it actually has characters that die, unlike MOST anime. It has elements of reality yet it helps us escape reality. Plus, you've got to admire Spike for wearing a sombrero.
@ Hrod: Tsk tsk tsk. The anime involves space COWBOYS and BEBOP is a type of music...therefore COWBOY BEBOP. Ta-daaaaa. Now go grow some brains.

 | KawaiiKonoAma (0) 04/22/2005 | Cowboy Bebop is very entertaining. The plot was wonderful, along with the sides of humor and useful information. Everyone has their own story to tell, and you will LOVE to hear all of them, while at the same time, enjoying the action packed adventure. This is a must.

 | OtakuSami (0) 04/21/2005 | Coyboy Bebop... Excellent. The Music is good, the plot is nice, and it is funny as well. Though little or immature children shouldn't watch it, it is highly recommended for those who haven't seen it yet or just getting into anime.

 | Terra_Hawk (0) 03/08/2005 | It's great it basically shows what's going to happen to us in 2071. We'll go to great heights, but in that process we kill everything else off. Probably one of the best ways of seeing the world.

 | MariusQelDroma (35) 12/11/2004 | For a short series, it had a lot to convey. Really have to watch the whole thing back-to-back-to-back to get the whole flow. Good artwork, great concept.

 | benfergy (0) 08/18/2004 | This of course is my favorite anime TV show. Specifically, it is great because of it's outstanding music, well-done artwork, intriguing story lines (both on individual episodes as well as the long term story), and of course, the great characters. I recommend this show even if you've never seen any anime before.

 | reene (0) 04/16/2004 | Cowboy Bebop has to be one of my absolute favorite anime. It consist of 26 sessions and a movie or two. The character of Spike was what drew me to the series. He's pretty angsty, but yet can act like a child. He says he hates women with attitudes, children and pets. Time the end of the series comes, he's a pretty changed guy. SPOILERS ahead- The reason I only gave it four stars is because they could have done so much more with this series, but no- they kill Spike off!

 | JonTheMan (28) 01/21/2004 | I think from reading the reviews here (and countless other similar reviews across the internet) it seems fairly obvious this is the show which holds the most crossover appeal for non-anime fans. A review given by a fan of the show with a withering view towards the rest of the Japanese animation spectrum will often state that Bebop is a breath of fresh air in a stagnant medium in which the prevailing themes circulate around either gratuitous sex, voilence, exaggerated facial expressions, giant robots or little yellow rats (as somewhat of an enthusiast though, I'd be inclined to say this is a little unfair). Typically a disgruntled otaku will hold a grudge against Bebop as a result. That and they might think it seems Americanized. These two biases often make it difficult to objectively judge Bebop though I will try and present a balanced view: Bebop was actually hardly original in the anime world at the time of it's 1998 television debut on the Japanese television network WOWOW (in fact the first time it was run through only half the episodes were shown as the network had concerns about it's appeal). The space bounty hunter aspect of it was already overdone at the time by such shows as Dirty Pair and Outlaw Star and the futuristic/western feel was pioneered by Trigun. However what is striking about Bebop (and very telling about it's surprising appeal on both sides of the pacific) is it's seamless integration of gun fights and martial arts choreographed in a Hong Kong cinematic style with a jazzy soundtrack which is a characterizing element of Shinichiro Watanbes directorial style. Another element which is indicative of the mixing of eastern and western styles is the music (which incidentally is excellent) scored here by Yoko Kanno (Escaflowne, GitS: SAC) and her band the seatbelts diliberately mixing both English and Japanese lyrics. Further allusions to popular western culture are made in the titling of the episodes, most of which are drawn from the titles of popular rock songs Bohemian Rhapsody, Speak like a child, sympathy for the devil etc. Expect to see a presentation of a futuristic cultural melting pot in the vastly diverse and distinctive cities. The scenery is particularly gorgeous and the spaceship design (all hand drawn, little to no CG stuff here folks) only a little less so. The animation is almost cinema grade quality throughout. Again, the series was dubbed into English with the western viewer in mind and this precipitates a rare occasion in which the English version is widely lauded to be as well acted as the Japanese version. The series itself has an annoying tendency towards being episodic and there totals only 5 episodes which deal with the backstory and development of the central pratagonist, Spike (a devotee of Bruce Lee and a master in his art of Jeet Kune Do) and his main rival, the disillusioned Vicious (he didn't die protecting me, he died protecting the order). Therefore the main storyline feels a little rushed despite being immensely enjoyable (why wasn't there more of it?). The only other main storyline of note is Faye's (the vexing and voluptuous femme fatale whose creator derived inspiration from the Wachowski brothers film Bound to create her) amnesia and her attempts to regain her identity. Jet strikes the viewer as a bit of a contradiction, namely he is a jaded and world weary enthusiast (his consistency at being a cranky old guy whilst trying to indulge in the activities of the younger crew are very amusing). Sadly the character of Ed remains fairly inconsequential to the course of the storyline and tends to strangely not be present whenever something serious happens (hence his/her involvement in storylines revolving around playing chess or chasing a purveyor of magic mushrooms). Not to worry though, the filler episodes are somewhat understandable considering the 26 episodes in the series. Overall I would say Cowboy Bebop does not quite live up to it's self-appraisal that it will become a genre in itself but rather provides a subtle and tasty blend of many different genres/styles and the effect is very pleasing.

 | arctic_shatter (0) 10/25/2003 | After reading the wonderful reviews that have already been given, I don't have anything to add that would benefit the topic in question. (except that my rating of 5 stars would raise it's overall rating on this site). My cousin found it boring, though. He's 11, so all the spiritual themes pass right over his head. -_- I think it's a brilliant show that anyone older than 14 should consider watching.

It's very relaxing to me! And I love Spike and the other characters! I hope to do voiceover work for anime half this exciting.

 | DeathRattle (1) 09/15/2003 | So far, Cowboy Bebop has proven to be thr greatest amine series to date. Every aspect of the show is top knotch and original(Main plot and sub-plots, many diverse and likeable, music score that is a part of the theme of the series, and so on). It is also that originality that has made this series so successful. Very few or none of the very known anime cliches (EXTREMELY weird pop up faces and expressions, pop-up bubbles, school girls in uniforms etc.) are visible in any of the episodes or the movie.

 | mjskywalker2002 (0) 05/28/2003 | This is the only animated show I watch. I am a bit of an anime fan, it's obviously a bit deeper than what we'ere used to. Still the stereotypes of sex and violence bother me, anime isn't all that violent considering what we watch, and considering that if you looked at anime avaliablilty as a whole rather that what you can find here it's not that bad, and comes in a huge variety of subgenres. This show is a little odd I'll give it that, but not so much odd as a little hard to understand. It does have fairly good aniamtion, and Spike is just plain cool. As for Hrod, I think the name is cool. Cowboy is for the 'space cowboys', the bounty hunters like Jet and Spike (for those of you who do not know the main characters). Bebop is the name of their ship. The show is a wonderful combination of tragedy and humor, jazz, sci-fi and western, and a whole lot more. Excellent show, jsut prepare to be open-minded. This kinda stuff isn't for everybody.

 | JKooks (3) 12/16/2002 | Amazing show. A welcome departure from the typical exploding-heads-with-tentacles-coming-out-of-vaginas-and-massive-amounts-of-blood-under-high-pressure formula for anime. Regardless of its futuristic setting with personal space craft and other fabrications, Cowboy Bebop is not nearly as out there as many standard works of anime. The fight scenes are fairly conventional, with gunplay and hand-to-hand, and the music is awesome, various jazz numbers instead of some whacked out choir of shrieking Japanese teenagers. And another thing, a shout to Hrod for judging this show by virtue of its name. WHAT THE HELL IS A HROD ANYWAY?????

 | xLifeIsButADream (0) 12/11/2002 | Alrighty. *cracks knuckles* Time to add some intelligent comments to a great program. Cowboy Bebop, this is a beautiful creation. I am not a fan of anime. Sometimes all it seems to be is big tranforming robots, porn, and shows about rodents. But no my friend, there is another genre of anime shows. Cowboy Bebop is one of them. It is filled up with cocoa-goodness of drama, humor, action, and romance. Thanks a bunch.
