The sequel to "The House on Turk Street" is a much grimmer story and in many ways a better one. Essentially the plot involves the pursuit and capture of the sole remaining gang member from the first story. (A device Hammett also used in the duet stories of "The Big Knockover" and "$106,000 Blood Money)Hammett's eye is very cynical and very observant here, and this is among the best of his stories, particularly with his ability to delineate a character in a couple of sentences.
