Todd goes over the rules too much. No charisma. Contestants too cookie-cutter. State-of-the-art whammy animation makes underwhelming sight gags/jokes/puns. Too many prizes. Too many unnecessary music cues.

It's a shame to see remakes that take away everything that was good about the original, and this is no exception. Stay away from this cheap ripoff and stay with the old classic, Press Your Luck.

Not bad, but press your luck was better.

Never before in the history of gameshow remakes has there been a horrible mutilation of a classic gameshow. Based on the 1983-1986 classic Press Your Luck, this one trashes everything that was great about that 1980s classic. Let’s begin, shall we? First off, the theme song stinks, trashing the upbeat techno jazz that was the original. The host is also dull and boring, compared to the upbeat and amusing Peter Tomarkin of the original. The set is dull and drab, the wall isn’t as colorful and neon as it was, useless objects falling on contestants have been added, and the poems that appeared at the end of the original are gone. There’s a reason that the uber-awesome Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy! And The Price is Right are still successes: consistency with their original (especially, Price is Right–same theme song for 30 years!) Whammy is a complete and utter failure. Easily one of the worst gameshows–and worst shows period–of all time!

Doesn't hold a candle to "Press Your Luck" of the '80's

Nothing nostalgic towards the original, and offers no surprises, but is still an amusing show with a great game show debut from newscaster Todd Newton.
