 | Jebril (1) 09/21/2007 | I didn't like it when it first came out and I don't like it now, not many exclusive titles are on it that I would consider AAA's, other than Forza, Halo, DOA, and Ninja Gaiden there isn't much that comes to mind. If your in your mid 40's or so I can understand why you love this system as it has a ton of those very simplistic sports games that no real gaming fan would enjoy. But for the college student geek I wouldn't get it, the GC had a ton of exclusive Triple A titles, and the PS2 just had a ton of games period, the Xbox doesn't have much.
Do yourself a huge FAVOR, get a 360 and buy the games I mentioned above and play them on your 360, you really aren't missing much. What I do give credit to the original Xbox though is that it was the first system to incorporate a hard drive into console gaming which is pretty much mandatory in all the 7th gen consoles, and that M$ introduced the first MAJOR online gaming network for consoles, which is a huge step forward for gaming.

 | ILikePie (49) 08/05/2007 | The XBox is by far the best console of the sixth-gen. Its graphical abilities by far outdo those of the GameCube and PlayStation 2. Other than that, after I got used to it, I preferred the controller, and also the range of games it has which don't appear on the other consoles, for example Halo, KOTOR, Battlefront, etc... Its internet access is also superior, with the XBox Live Arcade being the most complete online experience around. The XBox is just in a league of its own...

 | Jamie McBain (44) 07/22/2007 | I have so far enjoyed playing games on the X Box, especially the GTA series, Halo, KOTR 2, and Fable. The graphics for the games are good also. I have to admit, it took me awhile to get use to the controller.

 | ninjasword71 (0) 02/26/2007 | I used to own it before it stopped working. Great graphics, poor game choices as oppossed to PS2. I really liked playing my own music from the hard drive which seemed to have tons of space. Forza was way better than Gran Tourismo though. I hated to support Microsoft.

 | SpartanPride (21) 02/25/2007 | X box has many created releases, they breathed life back into The Elder Scrolls, home to the famous Halo series, KOTOR and KOTOR 2, Fable, BattleFront, and if you think they don't have good games, try these.

 | HansOnontheloose (0) 06/12/2006 | I rated the Xbox a 3 because the only game i have on Xbox is Halo 2. I love Halo 2. Everyother game i have played on Xbox sucks. The Xbox has pretty good graphics though. The system is just to big and not enough good games. Playstation 2 is more fun.

 | numbah16tdhaha (147) 10/13/2005 | Great system, great games, but just as NekoFaust states, the controler is kinda clunky. I had to relearn several familiar games when I started using an X-Box and the controller impedes my tactical prowess on Halo at times.
(1 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | NekoFaust (1) 10/13/2005 | I played it /once/ in a Wal-mart.
Fable looks like an awesome game, but seriously. From what I here,it has so many FPS games it makes your head spin. And not everyone likes them.
And the original controller is the single most uncomfortable and awkward controller in the history of video game controllers. It's half the size of your standard Dell keyboard, and the six buttons on the right are placed so awkwardly I'd have to look down at the thing every time I wanted my guy to do something.
The rectangular NES controller is more comfortable than this monster.
And please, stop preaching how wonderful it is,and then back up these claims by mentioning Halo and it's '1337ness'.It's stupid to base a system's funability potential on one game alone.
Feel free to disagree.kthxbai

 | The Batman (0) 07/19/2005 | This is more powerful than PS2 and Nintendo Gamecube, so it will have better graphics and faster loading times. This is Microsoft's first time developing a gaming system, so they do not have as many developers as the PS2. However, they have made Halo a hit, and that should help keep their fan base for the Xbox 360. The only negative with the Xbox is that popular game franchises such as Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy do not appear for the Xbox. I hear that a Final Fantasy game will be made for the Xbox 360 however, so this is good news.

 | HeadOfCobain (0) 05/04/2005 | I held out on getting an XBox until recently. I hadn't played the system much at all until then. Being the PS2 fanboy that I am, I had relied on my limited experience with the system to form my opinion. Of course, I slammed it. Now that I've sat down and played Morrowind, KOTOR, Fable, etc., I can honestly say that the XBOX easily nudges out the PS2 as the better system. Lots has been said about the controller, but after using it for awhile, it's hard to go back to the PS2 controller. It feels flimsy in comparison. I feel like I cheated myself for not buying one sooner.

 | ClassicTVFan47 (36) 11/08/2004 | An easy candidate for the worst video gaming console of all time. Bill Gates should have never thrown his rich hat into the video gaming arena. The X-Box is a hideous looking beast that is oversized and plain ugly. It is also unreliable and noisy. The controller is a monster than is hard to handle, but easy to drop. I have to admit I love the colored, gel-filled buttons though. The game selection is dreadful. Like Sony, Microsoft has no Mario or Sonic-like mascot to lift its gaming library to greatness. Instead, it relies on Halo, easily the most overrated game ever. I played the First Person Shooter and was bored instantly. Where's the creativity? Where's the character? And, when do I get to save the world? Those were all questions I asked when playing Halo. Why did I buy this? That's the question you should be asking yourself if you bought Microsoft's Ick-Box over Nintendo's immortal GameCube.

 | helmut (16) 11/01/2004 | The XBOX is far superior to any other platform as far as performance and the availability of a hard drive (in which you can save entire games if you have a modded box). I like PS2 but GameCube sorta sucks. I really urge all of you to drop the GameCube and buy this system. There's also better games for the X-Box, LIke Shadow ops an Halo. It's awesome, trust me. | OutlawzSoulja22 (0) 09/10/2004 | This is a good system, but I don't think that it can top PS2. Sure, the graphics are insanely nice, but still that is the only thing that is better. The controller is somewhat bulky and the system is somewhat large... but not much larger than PS2, especially in length. No memory cards... which is okay, but I like to steal my friends card so i can skip to the end of storyline games. I would say that PS2 is only better by 0.50 if it was on a scale of 0-10. I like the fact of the 4 controller slots, but NOT the controllers. The DVD remote is about 20-30$, which isn't really that bad.. considering that a PS2 DVD remote (not REQUIRED, but is nice to have) is also around the same price. Otherwise, I still think that this is a great system with few flaws. PS2 and gamecube are also good, but I think PS2 just is a little better than all 3. Still, I really like this system.

 | mapledonut (0) 03/13/2004 | No point in just calling this system Good when it's Great. This beats the PS2 in every single way. The graphics are better, the processor is faster, internal memory, and you can copy music. There are many other great things. Both the PS2 and Xbox are equally guilty for making you buy optional parts. The PS2 needs memory cards and the Xbox needs a DVD Playback Kit. They both cost around 30 dollars. The controller is also a little better for adult hands. The games may be more limited, but they are better, especially since I am an RPG hater.

Yeah, okay, call me a computer geek or whatever because I am a software engineer. I chose to buy it over PS2 for the very same reasons this author stated in a side-by-side comparison. Do some cutting and pasting with the following address:

The author forgot to mention that the xbox has a Pentium III processor. It is basically like buying PC.

 | roblinb (0) 11/08/2003 | By far the best system on the market. I'm so tired of the whiners saying that the PS2 has better games. No... the PS2 has MORE games. In 2003 the X-Box has greatly improved its game library, and any game that is on both the PS2 and the X-Box looks superior on the latter. Plus the X-Box has a pretty decent-sized hard drive that can hold countless game files and loads of songs. The Game Cube sucks, it can't do anything other than play games. But comparing the X-Box to the PS2 is like comparing a Thai hooker (XB) to an American hooker (PS2). You get more bang for the buck with the X-Box. (Thai hooker).

 | TomikoM (0) 07/12/2003 | We got our XBox in September of last year (2002). With it we received one game: Halo. Three months after we received our X-Box, it broke and was no longer able to play DVDs. After taking it in to get fixed, we unfortunately lost all of our data due to the lack of having a removable storage device (such as a memory card). The lack of removeable storage also makes it impossible to bring your data with you if you want to play at a friend's house, lest you do not wish to spend $20 on a memory card. The design is very bulky (more so than every other system in production currently), the controller design is the worst one I have ever held (and being a serious gamer I can realistically claim that I've held almost every one - I've even logged some playing time on the ancient Ataris), that comes close to making it anti-ergonomical. On to games. I'll just come right out and say it: Halo is the only thing keeping the X-Box alive. Dead or Alive is also a variably good game, but you don't see the X-Box winning any Ultimate-RPG, shooter, action, or racing game awards. They simply lack in the game-design department. Playstation has Tetsuya Nomura, Nintendo has Shigeru Miyamoto, X-Box has...*ahem...No one yet. We've all seen the argument before, X-Box is like a downgraded computer. Hate to say it, but after owning one for almost a year, I have to agree. Although it would be difficult to play a game like Halo on the computer, I think it'd be well worth saving the $200 and spending it on an electrical appliance that has more than one function. Companies such as Nintendo and Sony (Playstation) have much to boast about, games (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Legend of Zelda), graphics, size (the GameCube's the size of a freaking purse), but almost every "X-Box-is-better" article I've seen compares one thing: system specs. Undoubtedly, the X-Box's graphics are top of the line, and it is a very powerful (in fact the most powerful) system but what good is it if you don't have any good games?! I believe there is a remote chance X-Box could eventually become a competitor in the gaming industry, given a lot of time, a lot of money, a few good game designers, Nobuo Uematsu, and the crash of Nintendo and a buyout of Sony. But, as things stand right now, the X-Box is simply a bulky, powerful, graphics driven, system with a couple good games that fails to utilize it's full potential.

 | Davis21Wylie (1) 04/20/2003 | Microsoft's large black and green box may not dominate sales, but must go down in gaming history as one of the most innovative systems ever created. Graphically, no other system to date is even close the the XBox; Splinter Cell alone is enough evidence for this. In fact, for almost every game released for all of the Big Three Systems (Xbox, Gamecube, PS2), the XBox iteration's graphics dominate the other two. The game lineup does not have the Grand Theft Auto star power that Playstation has, but the majority of good PS2 games are also available on XBox (I like to think that Halo offsets the GTA advantage for Sony). Sure, the XBox doesn't look quite as good as the PS2, but since when did the way a system looks on the outside matter? The PS2 controller also gets dominated by the XBox version; the latter possesses actual analog triggers as opposed to Sony's "shoulder buttons", and the thumbsticks are much more responsive and ergonomically sound than the PS2's. And if it's "too big" for your puny hands? Get controller S, dummy! As for the weak "who needs a hard disk, anyway" argument, when was the last time you played Madden or All-Star Baseball on the PS2, got tired, and saved your game to resume later? The answer is never, because the PS2 makes you rely on overpriced memory cards which leave much to be desired when it comes to number of files you can save on each. Oh yeah, since developers know that every XBox possesses a hard disk, they can program games to store information on it to reduce load times, even render real-time environments and sound faster. Do you know what the term "cache" means? It means that the game automatically stores information it may need in the future on the hard disk to quickly load when it needs it, instead of loading directly from the game CD. Can your PS2 do that? Only in a limited fashion due to the absence of a hard drive. And even if you bought one of the rare, overpriced PS2 hard drives floating out there, games still would cache like they do on a PS2 without the peripheral-- because the developers know that very few PS2's have the hard drive. And the Xbox plays DVD's and CD's just like the PS2-- except with Xbox you can burn the CD's to the HARD DISK so you can listen to them during gameplay. Can your PS2 do that? Again, a resounding "no". So there it is, kids; after careful analysis, there is no way a person of sound mind could ever argue the Playstation 2's superiority over Xbox, and now you know what to say if ever you have to defend your beloved Box against minions of Sony's evil empire. I call it "Microsoft Apoplogetics".

 | Mr. Gone (0) 04/11/2003 | Yeah I know that PS2 has a better catalog of games right now but that will change with time. The xbox is the most powerful game system on the market and eventually the software will catch up with the hardware. Anybody who says that the xbox sucks needs to shut up and play Halo, that game is the baddest thing for any system, and Halo 2 is going to show just how superior xbox is to ps2 and gamecube. As for the controller, yes its a little awkward at first but anybody with hands larger than a dwarf's should be able to adjust after a little practice.

 | kamylienne (77) 04/02/2003 | I had extremely low expectations for this system, but I was generally wrong. So far, the bonus points go for the graphics (for most games), and the way you can save to the hard drive instead of buying a memory card. They also feature a four-controller port design. I haven't seen too many games that interest me out on this system, but the few that I've seen have amazing graphics and good loading times. The design for the console itself is HORRIBLE--it's huge, and even the controllers are unmanageable for most people (if you're going to have that many buttons, why not just give me a keyboard?). Smaller controllers can be purchased separately, but they still tend to be on the big side. I believe this system is still more expensive than its competitors, and I would seriously do my research before buying this system.

 | JKooks (3) 01/27/2003 | I cannot get up here and honestly say that Microsoft's X-Box is not impressive. It is. Very. Halo is one of the most badass games around. But it's almost kind of embarrassing that a system that had a full two years to improve on the Playstation 2 still can't touch Sony's little black and blue powerhouse. There's no reason why the X-Box should not have blown the PS2 clear out of the water. Yet for reasons unknown, it struggles just to be on a par with Sony. And that's exactly why the PS2 is my console of choice. And in other news, is it too much to ask for people to know the difference between "there," "their," and "they're"? Me can spell! Spelling am a fun!!! Duh-haw...

On the other hand th1e x box is brilliant, games can be bought for £34 if you find a decent shop, the dvd playback is fully equipt for anything as the sensor can reach for about 20 metres and it plays DVD-rs of the worsh quality, my friend bought some dvd-r's and they won't work on his ps2 but they work on the xbox, wonderfull.
Also the graphics are increadable and games load up extremely fast, and getting to the hard drive......never fork out loads of money for memory cards that mess up after a while, instant retrieval of game data and it facilitates the copying of your music collection to the hard drive, play sega GT to prodigy, wicked!!!! my only quarell is the fact that you can not fast forward the music cd's on the hard drive, seems silly as the DVD player can via the remote, so why not incorperate it into the media player on the xbox for music???/ silly microsoft

The X-BOX is the best consol yet, the graphics are great you don't need to buy a memory card (unless you want to) and not to mension all the games that are avilable, plus the games that are coming out, you also have the choice to save songs on the memory of the xbox and then listen to them while you are playing the game. And lets remember, xbox just came out, there are still a lot of things that microsoft has instore for the xbox owner. so don't waste your time buying a stupid gamecube or a PS2 buy an xbox.
