What a miserable PM. His major acheivement has been to stoke and encourage the Canadian smugness that the nation is better, more sophisticated, and more enlightened than the US. It is amazing to see what lengths a people will go to in an attempt to justify themselves. PM Chretien has been a wonderful encourager of the national obsession to differentiate the country from its neighbor. The Liberals have been in office too long, let the Alliance have a chance at governing!

Here's a guy who had enough spine not to fall in lockstep with the rest of the sheep when Handjob insisted on waging his military misadventure for the sake of shoring up his faltering public opinion numbers and continuing to line the pockets of his buddies in the petroleum industry. Chretien then had the strength to stand up to drooler pressure, confident that the death-worshippers who supported this wanton act of carnage on the part of the good ol' U.S. had their heads up their collective butts. He was right at the outset, and the passage of time has proved the droolers wrong. In addition, he's done a pretty fine job as Canadian PM, showing that his predecessor, the idiotic Mulroney, was truly lame, like most Conservatives.

he balanced the budget he led the country to 5 successive surplusses he was there with the US in the war against terrorism following 9/11(and Canada is still there) overall Canada is way better after 9 years of Chretien's government than after 9 years of Mulroney's government! Cudos to JC for asserting Canada's right to determine it's own foreign policy- unlike his predecesor who gleefully bowed to every US request-even to the Canada's peril!
