Today is January 6. On this date in history, in 1978, Jimmy Carter returned the Crown of St. Stephen of Hungary to the Communist government of Hungary against worldwide Christian protests. The Crown of St. Stephen also known as the Holy Crown of Hungary, was used to crown Hungarian kings from the 13th century onward. The Crown was bound to the Lands of the Crown of St. Stephen. No king of Hungary was regarded as having been truly legitimate without being crowned with it. The crown had a bodyguard that watched over it day and night. When the Red Army was overrunning Central Europe during WWII, the guardians of the crown spirited it out of Hungary to keep Stalin from getting his hands on it. The US Army accepted the crown and the USA vowed only to give it back to a free Hungary. Of course, then the USA elected the feckless peanut farmer and he broke the promise and gave it back to the Commies. Read about the crown and its legend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_of_St...
