A long time ago...network TV had shows that people actually watched...the shows featured actors that became stars because of their popularity...and, once in a while, they were featured on a ridiculous show that wasn't about competition at all. It was a bad version of the animated "Laugh-a-lympics" with The Scoobies, The Dastardlee's and the Yogi's.

I suppose that "Battle Of The Network Stars" could be considered early reality television, save with then contemporary TV stars. I personally don't watch realty shows, but this was fun and exciting to my younger eyes. Nevertheless, this series of specials was the epitome of cheese and camp. The highlights to me (besides the women in swimsuits, etc.) were Howard Cosell providing color as if the games were real sporting events, Robert Conrad taking it so seriously, and Gabe Kaplan looking so out of place like a hippy in a suit. The bottom line is a couple of bonus stars for being so 70's.

So cheesy it actually made me laugh.Seeing a bunch of B list celebs running around like(in most cases) klutzes was an absolute delight. An exception:Gil Gerard was a good athlete.A regret:I missed the episode with Adrienne Barbeau. Now there was-and is-a very sexy woman! But I saw all the other hot women with their shapely legs and firm bodies run around.I even saw Ed Asner doing this.Trust me,it was not a pretty sight.
Howard Cosell did the play by play. This sort of added to the cheese factor.I remember one time when Billy Crystal(?) did the analysis. In 1979,ABC ran something of an offshoot to this called the Celebrity Comedy Football Classic.I never got to see it but Wilt Chamberlain was in it.Same premise:a lot of hot looking B list female celebs.Plus Wilt?Methinks the Dipper was like a kid in a candy store ogling all that eye candy. And since the big man slept with 10000+ women in his day, that was like putting 10 cases of muscatel in front of a wino!

I give it the Max.Not because of the jiggling celebrites usually in the water or mud.Not because the now comical celebrity charactures like Robert"Ever Ready" Conrad(I dare you to call it regular) Parker Stevenson.I used to hate the person who i now wish i could hear his comments on this show.Yes,Howard Cosell. He now to me is priceless because of the delivery of his dialogue and the extent he took his own opinions so highly. Its like watching really badly mad movies like Plan 9 from Outer Space. They are so bad they are belly laughs.

This was a great concept of having the big 3 networks stars going at it. Would love to see it today with all the networks stars going at it.

Loved all the 70's Hotties running around. Nothing better for a teen going through puberty.

Quality programming. Who doesn't love watching Grizzly Addams kayak against Jamie Farr?

A 2.5. I watched this all the time when it came on in the 70s. it was interesting to see who they got to represent the networks. I actually saw this on a repeat thing a few months ago and boy is it ever cheesy. I now realize that some of those so called stars they got on these shows are nowhere to be seen now.it was interesting to see who were good athletes and who were pretty bad.

This show personified the 70s and was tolerable when Howard Cossell was doing the color.

A totally fun show! Where else could you find your favorite TV stars in fun competition, and the 3 networks against each other? Of course, the reason why they dreamed it up was because they knew that it would get big ratings, what with all the T&A jiggle (oh and the hunks too).

I remember as a child loving this show and thinking it was so incredible to see my favorite stars competing against each other. Great 70's pop culture and reference; a literal 'Who's Who' of B-Grade television actors, and of course, the 'Flavor of the Week'TV superstar(s). I don't believe this was an actual series, however, but a series of specials... not quite sure.
