I loved the fashions and I was pre-teen at the time growing uo in New York and always had a vision that I would one day leave home like Anne Marie and be an independent woman. i did just that!!

A better than average sitcom. Marlo was a charming babe. Donald was such a nerdy boyfriend. Should have found a few New York-type boyfriends to live things up.

Obnoxious.
with a capital o.
Whiny
as well.
(only possible saving grace is that it might have inspired the mary tyler moore show.)

Though "That Girl" is rather bland and unspectacular by contemporary standards, looking back the show was relatively progressive for its day. I don't recall too many of the show's predecessors portraying a single career woman, Ann Marie (Marlo Thomas), living alone and (for the most part) shunning the financial assistance of her parents and boyfriend (Ted Bessell). In some ways, I would guess that the series inspired (to some degree) the much better "Mary Tyler Moore Show". Nevertheless, I never liked Thomas' voice and there are many better shows on this list, so "That Girl" suffers in comparison.

Before there was Mary Richards, there was Ann Marie. An aspiring actress from Brewster, N.Y. attempting her career goals while living in Manhattan. Somewhat unrealistic in the sense that she didn't work much yet dressed well & afforded an apartment in NYC. Early episodes are the best with her fab flip hairdo & groovy fashions. The show loses points for later episodes when she went feminist/braless & because they never had Ann marry Don which would have been a great ending to a good series. ABC just left these characters & the viewers hanging.

Donald made the show. What a stud. Ann Marie was a loser.

I can barely remember this show. Even when I was a kid it was already in reruns. I do remember that even back in the 60s Ann Marie(Marlo Thomas) seemed liked a good role model for young girls.

I remember watching this great show. A single woman in the world. Now as I am still single I know why I admired and liked that show so much back then. I must of wanted to be like Ann Marie in the world when I grew up.

The theme song has to be the best theme song ever and Marlo certainly is a gifted actress with a great smile. However, Ann Marie was not nearly as smart and independent as Rhoda or Mary because she did not have a girlfriend. Donald and Dad were always around. Also, it just was not that funny of a show, although it is harmless.

I watched it when I was a kid. It wasd OKK, except for her annoying "Oh, Donald". Unfortunately, Marlo grew up to marry no brained left wing pod person Phil Donahue. But this show was pleaseant and inoffensive.

I remember watching That Girl on tv. when it was first on in the 60s and liked it a lot. I still like. That Girl was one of the first shows that showed a young woman out on her own and independent. I think it was a positive show for that reason. Marlo Thomas did a great job in her role on Ann Marie a likable person in New York trying to make it big as an actress. Ann really never had that much luck in her pursuit of stardom.but she still found ways to support herself. This was a comedy and Ann could get herself in some predictaments. Yet watching this show as an adult I realize how important this show was when it first aired. there really were not many shows that showed a woman as single and on her own.so at the time in the mid sixties this was a "daring" show.it helped paved the way for other shows about independent woman.

Marlo Thomas was the very first star I fell in love with, and that affair has lasted ever since. It's great to have several THAT GIRL episodes on dvd. I only hope Anchor Bay releases more. The show is just as funny today. The writing and acting was top notch, and today's comedies(is that what they are called?) are pale to That Girl and other classic sitcoms.Sure the plots may sound oddly ridiculous today, but at least Ann & Don did not sit around for 20 mins whining about their relationships or mainly talking about sex.I don't watch tv sitcoms anymore. They all sound alike, look alike, and so do the stars(unknowns to me). Maybe I am missing something, maybe I am getting old,but give me Marlo,Lucy,Dick, and Gleason and I am complete.

A lot of people missed this show when it was on reruns on TV Land last year. It was a pretty funny sitcom. A lot like Mary Tyler Moore, only kind of funky.

It was a great show in the 60's for girls, although it would be kind of outdated today. When I was a little girl I always watched this show and hoped for a boyfriend like Donald, a great career, and nice clothes. Funny how life doesn't imitate television!
