 | abichara (66) 08/06/2005 | I think that this red state versus blue state analysis of politics is very simplistic. While there are distinct regional differences in voting patterns that should be accounted for, such forms of coloration tend to overstate these differences in a way which has lent itself to stereotyping. For instance, many commentators insist that all people in red states are NASCAR fans and love Rush Limbaugh, while people in blue states love to drink overpriced latte's and listen to NPR. Besides, there are plenty of blue areas in the Southeast, a region which is moving into the red column, especially in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Arkansas. There's an even more interesting irony in this: blue, which the media now uses to color liberal areas, is actually the color that has been traditionally associated with conservatives, especially in the Western Democracies. Red is usually associated with leftists and socialists, not conservatives. What happened was that during the 2000 election, the media started using the color codes differently for some reason. Many political scientists were dumbfounded by this switch. Is there a hidden message in this? Maybe today's conservatives are actually more activist than in past generations, thus the change in color? Let the reader decide this one.

 | James76255 (26) 06/04/2005 | Actually, when it comes to people aiming hatred at a state just because of the way it went in the last election, the hate is usually aimed at red states. Personally, I think this is silly. As others have pointed out, there are people of all kinds in all states.

 | Inmyopinion (10) 06/03/2005 | Like others have said, there is really no such thing as a blue or red state. The closest is Utah, with it's 80% republican vote. And Massachusets with a little over 60%. Not to mention that blue states are PART OF AMERICA. So this one is probably the stupidest one.

 | mystic mango (0) 12/23/2004 | No state is a solid red or blue, and it is stupid for people to think that they are. It is also stupid to hate blue states simply because you don't agree with their political views. I am a Democrat, and I don't hate red states. I don't hate Republicans just because I disagree with some of their views. I respect both parties. To bad some people can't do the same.

 | Mr.Political (21) 12/17/2004 | I live in a blue state and I hate it- not because it's a blue state though (which is a bad trait anyway).

 | Jed1000 (74) 12/14/2004 | I don't accept the red state v. blue state premise. Every state is actually some shade of purple. Some are slightly redder and some slightly (or much) bluer but every state has both people who are conservative and people who are moderate. Despite what some might have you believe there is no red state majority. The last two elections prove that we're pretty much split down the middle.
