This is a five star place if you go in off peak, four stars if you go in on a Friday or Saturday night. The general premise is that Rickhouse tries to bring back cocktails that were popular in the 20's and 30's. And apparently they were drinking some really crazy shit back then - whiskey with egg and maple syrup (sounds nasty, but it's not). The drink menu is like a book.Rickhouse feels like you're sitting in a whiskey cask - everything is wooden and oaky.I lucked into grabbing a seat in front of the guy in the photo (who happens to be an owner), who gave me a bunch of tips on how to make a superior cocktail, the history of some of the crazier cocktails, as well as a bunch of freebies when he would experiment with a new combination, and then pass it over with a "try this."When it gets crowded, it can be slow to get a drink as about five minutes goes into each drink. But that's a small price to pay for a place that makes a real effort to make a superior, historic cocktail.
