I was sad to hear that Patrick died. We all knew he had been sick for quite awhile, but he was such a good honest man. He loved his wife with all his heart, and that showed alot about him. Look at how many celebrities get married, get divorced, get married again, get divorced and on and on. He was a great actor and will be missed.

Sorry to his fans, but I thought he was pretty egotistical for a 3rd rate actor.

sad to read of his death. He fought so hard to battle cancer. seemed like a decent man. not the greatest actor ever { but not the worst either} he was a better dancer. liked him in Dirty Dancing. and especially Ghost.

He may not have been the world's greatest actor but on the day he died there were people from all generations who knew of him and were saddened. Dirty Dancing was a feel good movie for many and still is today. The Outsiders is still one of my favorite movies. i admire him for the fight he fought.

Swayze entertained me throughout. I enjoyed Point Break and Road House, ridiculous as they were, and appreciated how he never took himself too seriously, playing less than flattering roles as a cross dresser and as a pedophile in other movies.

I also liked his big "Fuck You All" speech when all the tabloids said he was dying last year.

As I said elsewhere, Swayze always seemed to go all in on his roles, one dimensional as they often were. And whether it be a guy delivering pizza, a professional hoops player, or a guy making crappy movies - I've always admired people who take pride in their work.

I think Patrick Swayze seemed like a really nice guy. If you grew up in the 80's like I did, and had an older sister, you were forced to watch Dirty Dancing ten times before the time you were ten. Anyway, not my cup of tea in terms of movies; although, I did enjoy 'Three Wishes.' I put him above Ted Kennedy and a step below Billy Mays as far as 2009 goes. But I can say one thing, that Patrick Swayze's fight against cancer was very brave.

The only thing I ever saw him in was "Red Dawn" years ago, which was laughably awful. From everything I've heard, he wasn't much of an actor (although I suspect women weren't flocking to see him in the theatres because of his "thespian" abilities), but he also never came across as a dick, as far too many physically-blessed but marginally-talented "actors and actresses" seem to (big surprise: crew members on the "Transformers" set say the supremely beautiful but talent-challenged Megan Fox is an arrogant, insufferable asshole). I never heard that he fancied himself as the next Brando or Nicholson, and within the limits of whatever talent he had, he provided people with entertainment and temporary escapism, which surely isn't a bad thing to aspire to in this often harsh, joyless life. Newstand tabloids (there has to be a special place in Hell...if there is such a place...for the human vultures who put out these rags; maybe for the people who read them too) have been predicting his death for months with parasitical glee, but Swayze seemed to face his end (as we all must, sooner or later) with courage and dignity. If there is a Heaven, maybe he's dancing up there with Chris Farley as we speak. Nice thought, even if it's unlikely. R.I.P., Patrick.

I was devastated to hear the news this morning....because he was only diagnosed 20 months ago, and he was only 56 years old. I can't even imagine the pain the family is going through. His wife is such a formidable woman, very strong and supportive. Michael Jackson's death did not bring a tear, as it was no big surprise. I mean.....he has gambled with his life forever! But hate to say, this news had me crying. He worked up to the day of his death, nothing stopped him. He was highly respected, and he stayed out of the limelight, which I admire.

He wasn't the greatest actor of all time, but no denying he made some really memorable films. The one that comes to mind is definitely without a doubt "Dirty Dancing". I also liked "Ghost" and "The Outsiders", but they didn't compare to "Dirty Dancing". I've always liked Patrick Swayze as he was never one of those celebrities that was in your face and took every photo-op at every event. He knew how to keep a healthy distance from the public by keeping his profile strictly about business. Patrick never used his illness as an opportunity to revive his career. I know what it's like to loose someone to cancer and it's not nice. Rather than gain sympathy from the public or anyone Patrick carried on. He definitely had my respect and I will miss him. Whenever I watch "Dirty Dancing" or listen to my Ultimate Dirty Dancing CD I'll always remember a dignified human being whose movies I enjoyed.

I hope he's having a dance off with Chris Farley somewhere in the great beyond like in that hilarious SNL skit they did...

I don`t feel any great sense of loss at Swayze`s death, and certainly won`t miss him. While it appears that he was a pretty decent human being, he really wasn`t much of an actor, and his filmography doesn`t carry much weight. I don`t feel that his passing leaves a great gaping hole in the acting fraternity.

So, while I certainly don`t wish him ill, and have sympathy for his family at his death, I won`t miss him.

Patrick Swayze wasn't a great actor, but he seemed well liked by most. Women loved him for Dirty Dancing and Ghost, bouncers for Roadhouse, and drag queens for To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. And if somehow you didn't fit into one of the previous three categories, I hope you can appreciate the greatness that was Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley as Chippendales hopefuls on Saturday Night Live.
Swayze seemed like a tough guy, who despite his faults, battled his illness to the end. Pancreatic cancer usually takes a person quickly, and I'm impressed that he was able to continue living his life, including working on the TV show The Beast, while dealing with this disease. May he rest in peace and God bless his family.
