Frankly I'm not sure what to do about them...I called when they sent a brochure telling me I would need a set-top box...didn't want anything else that collects dust! Found a competing company who did not require boxes. Here is where the fun starts! I called to cancel but they wanted to keep me...apparently at all costs! They just would not cancel me! When I called for the umpteenth time In January I got a guy who said September would be the next available shut-off date....get this...I got frustrated and got the competitor to hook me up in December!!! Tech said it was as easy as flipping a switch! So...I wasn't even getting service anymore. But...you would get a gold star if you said they were still charging me for service...numbers on invoices were all over the place! Didn't even know what to think but I stood firm and refused to pay for service they would not let me cancel from or I did not even receive! Now I'm getting calls from a collection agency!!! I cannot say more forcibly....... Read more

If your thinking about signing up with RCN do your self a favor. Get a root canal instead. It will be less painful! It's now 2 months since we cancelled our tv service due to the new policy of a converter for each tv, making it cheaper to go with direct tv with better signal, and we still are getting billed for it. To make it worse, they continue to draft our account each month, then promising a credit, which never comes. You cannot trust anything they say. The mentality is "take the money and run". RCN...The Live Liars of Communications. Buyer beware.

Not sure what other ppl have experience with RCN but its just awesome with me! i live in Woburn MA and my service is just perfect. No issues to deal with customer service as we deal with direct sales group which are more efficient helping us. We have RCN service for over 4 years and do not have any problems. Every Company increase the price once a year which is understandable but we call our one dedicated rep who always helps us to give us retention promo. RCN has improved from past 4 years as they have newer network and over 100 HD Channels. I will fully recommend to deal with direct sales from RCN and enjoy their Triple Play product.

RCN is absolutely terrible. Initially after I installed the connection I had so many issues to deal with the payment, it was almost like only I cared about paying my bills on time because RCN did nothing to help me setup an online account. I called them and called them time and again, only to never reach them because of terrible customer service. In the end after a lot of wasted time I was able to get that done, and even after that they did the job all wrong. Besides that they gave me a wrong username, formed their own password, and put in ridiculous questions to remember the password, and claimed that I was the one who did all this, and it was my fault that I didn't have an online account. Next, whenever my net was down or I had issues, nobody would come over to help(customer service was not reachable as usual). Finally, and the worst, was when I cancelled my connection. I was told that there was no fees to be paid, as I didn't have a contract. All of a sudden they said that I have to... Read more

RCN provide excellent customer service when they are trying to acquire a customer but the minute you have installed in your home they don't want to know you or help you! I moved into a building which promotes and encourages residents to contact RCN and even proactively provide the name and contact details of an 'Account Manager' to contact. When i contacted the person about their packages she was so nice and prompt in her responses and was very fast in scheduling an installation appointment. After the technician came and installed the cable and internet i realised i need a cable which is compatible with a HD TV, i also heard from a neighbor that he has the same package as me but with special channels included. I emailed the 'Account Manager' i had dealt with- i emailed once- no reply, i emailed twice- no reply; i called and she said she'd email me back- no reply, i called again and she said she would call me back- the b**ch still didn't reply. RCN NEED TO WORK ON RETAINMENT OF EXIST... Read more

THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THEIR OWN MALFUNCTIONING EQUIPMENT!!! IT TAKES DAYS FOR REPAIR MEN TO COME AND THEN THEY FAIL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH INCOMPETENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. STAY AWAY AND SAVE YOUR SANITY!!!

The first time I tried to write a review on this site RCN was being so awful that the page wouldn't load. This is the WORST customer service ever, and when you finally get through, everyone is an idiot and transfers you to another department that can't help you. Plus you wait on a hold forever. Unfortunately RCN has a monopoly on our apartment building and they are the only ones who can be wired here. Otherwise, we would avoid the idiots, the slow internet even though you're paying for the fastest service and the shotty telephone and cable service. These people need to get it together.

Terrible Terrible Terrible... Waiting on the phone for hours at a time to speak with a representative and on top of that when my call finally went through one time, the rep hung up on me. Cable television service cuts out when there is activity by the building I live in, i.e. when the train goes by. Now after cancelling their service, they are charging me for extra days on my service and not putting a credit towards my account. DO NOT GO WITH RCN!!!

This is the worst service I have ever had from any company. It is easy to sign up, but as soon as you are don't count on ANY customer service. I have been hung up on by customer service people, my phone only works part of the time, my channels don't work, and count on being on hold for at least an hour--if you can even get through. Don't use this company!

THE WORST! The short of it is that the salesman lied to me, never returned my calls, and was useless. The folks at customer service were no better (with one exception, and she deserves a promotion). Don't waste your time.

I have problems with certain chanels on RCN breaking up and than freezing. At first they said it must be a problem in my house even though the two TV's hooked to their converters have the problem the other TV doesn't. Than they claimed it was the converter box and I needed a new one. Well we got the new one but while waiting in line I spoke to at least a dozen people who were having the same trouble. Now we have the same problem with the new box. You try calling them and they give you a line again that they will have to send someone to the house. They refuse to acknowledge that almost everybody with their converter boxes is having the same problem. And BTW their customer service is the worst ever.

RCN's customer service is definitely horrifying. STEER CLEAR OF this cable provider!!!! The cancellation department puts you on hold for 45 minutes, and no one picks up the phone. If you call the sales department they answer the phone in less than a minute. The local RCN rep's mailbox is full. I truly wish this company goes bankrupt!!!!

My problem with RCN is our phone service. There are a handfull of local people that are unable to call me. My parents (God forbid there's an emergency) are one of those people. Another is my friend Donna, my dentist and my husband's eye doctor. I'm sure there's others, but these are the ones we know of. I have wasted much of my time calling RCN customer service (or lack there of!), on multiple occasions, to fix the problem. What happens? They tell me there's no problem with my line! I find it very insulting that they think I'm making this up and actually have the time to sit and complain about my phone. What happened to the customer is always right attitude!? I just placed my LAST complaint with RCN about an hour ago. I'm giving them a last chance to fix the problem because the service is bundled and they actually offer a pretty decent phone rate and the broadband speed is great for the price. If not resolved this time, I'm switching back to Verizon.

Billing and customer service stink! I tried to call about a billing error, I was on the line over 3 hours. I talked to at least 12 different people all said that the couldn't find my account or it "wasn't their department". All transferred me which took an average of 20 minutes on hold (while they tried to sell me something else). Couldn't resolve the billing error ver the phone. Disputed the charge with my credit card company. RCN never responded, so the dispute was resolved in my favor. But wait, next thing I hear is a call from a collection agency. Way to go RCN, treat customers like $^!#.

BE AWARE: RCN service is TERRIBLE! I had the unfortunate opportunity to use RCN internet, cable and phone for this past year. RCN Cable: During this past year, I was never able to watch a movie on demand. My weekly routine..I would select the movie and the system would freeze. Then I call RCN, wait at least 45 min to speak with someone. Finally, after waiting, the tech support would reset my cable box (I lose all my movies I had saved on DVR). After rebooting, still nothing works. I ask for a credit, they tell me that the "on demand" service is free, therefore no credit. Again, I did this weekly..I guess I thought (wished) sooner or later it would finally work. RCN phone: They "accidently" cancelled my service today. (This actually prompted me to write this review). My wife works from home. We called RCN this morning. After waiting for 55 minutes, we finally spoke with someone. They don't know what the problem is. They want to send tech support here to see what... Read more

So, I scheduled a Saturday connection about 2 weeks ago for cable tv internet services. Saturday came, I was up at the ass crack of dawn but RCN never showed up. So what do I do? I call again come Monday to see what was up. Nobody at RCN has any idea what went wrong and we rescheduled for the next Saturday. Satuday rolls around and I am once again up at the ass crack of dawn. Lo and behold, RCN doesn't show up again. I call again today to see what the hell the excuse will be. They look up my info and then tell me there is a note next to it that says they do not provide service in my area. All this even though I called and asked, looked it up on the internet, have gotten numerous mail advertisements, and there are RCN buildboards all over my area. I was looking forward to your service because of the lies (I can only assume they were lies because I've gotten not one bit of corroboratable information from RCN to date, besides the fact that they dont' service my area) I was told ... They suck, I had cable internet with them and it seemed worse than old fashioned dial up. They were rude when I'd call about it, and when the service guys would come out they were rude. They blamed it on a bad modem, replaced it, it was still slow. Eventually (THANK GOD) Verizon DSL became available in my area.

RCN is a terrible company to deal with. My RCN cable Internet connection would go down for days at a time, and they'd tell me it was scheduled maintance. (I was never warned.) Support was rude when I called. Eventually I cancelled and returned the equipment, but they billed me $175 for the cable modem (which I did return) and are threatening to use a collection agency.

I pay about $65 per month to have cable modem access in DC. I have used RCN/Starpower in three different locations, two apartments and one house, and have found their installation and support services to be acceptional. I came to this site to see whether I could get the same level of service in a cable or DSL format at a lower cost or a tie-in to a frequent flyer program. Judging from the comments, I think I will stick with Starpower!
