This hasn't happened to me in years, back when money was tighter and priorities were different (beer first, then gas). However I was pushing it earlier this year as I was coming back from Lexington, Kentucky. I misjudged how far I had to go to Nashville, and by the time I got there that night I was frighteningly close to E. I was having trouble getting right to take an exit, but finally managed to do so. Just as I was pulling up to the pumps the idiot light came on telling me I was low on fuel. That's as close as I care to come to running out of gas on the freeway in Nashville. Or anywhere else for that matter.

This happened to me yesterday for the first time ever. I've run dangerously close before I'm sure but this time by car started sputtering and that was it. Fortunately, I got off the highway early due to construction and traffic on the 15 in Las Vegas. When I pulled off, I passed several gas stations - AmPm's, MLK's, Terribles, and one called Champs. None of these work with my company gas card. It was close to 6 and i was just about to make it across town to my last appointment when it happened. Rated a 4 because it was a busy road, but a couple guys came around immediately to help me push into a parking lot after my car slowed to a halt and I put my hazards on, got out and tried to push it myself. Fortunately a gas station with a container was about a 15 minute walk away, and on my walk back someone picked me up and dropped me off. If this did happen on the packed highway though it would probably add up to a 5.
