So dreary and mediocre they make a dental appointment look like a fun-filled outing.

A good band but not great. The only song I like of theirs is "Keep On Loving You" and maybe "Can't Fight This Feeling"

I would hardly categorize REO Speedwagon as soft rock.
Djahuti 08/01/2006
Fluffy Crap for airheads.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 07/31/2006
Hmm. Speed...Wagon. Pity this one didnt go full throttle over the edge of a cliff, with a passenger load of all other AOR/prog bands.
kingguiness 07/11/2006
Pitiful, watered down, boring, banal, trite garbage!
CanadaSucks 07/11/2006
The pits. . .I just can't fight that feeling any more. . .

Strange to see this group on the list. In the 70's they were a power arena rock act, but their 80's stuff (I guess) gives them inclusion on this list. No matter, I like most of their stuff-both eras.

Awful power balladry for the most part, a subcategory of rock that I wish had never been invented.

Man I remember in junoir high everyone listening to REO, but I hear this on the radio now and think how could I ever have liked this crap. Proof that certain music holds up with time, i.e. Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, and other music does not age well at all.
Redoedo 08/28/2004
Never particularly enjoyed much of their stuff, other than Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore. That was truly a one-hit wonder for this otherwise mediocre band.

Possibly the worst band of the last 100 years. Kevin Kronin is no rock star, he is a human phallus

REO Speedwagon is a guilty and nostalgic pleasure. I liked Like You Do and Golden Country back when those songs were released. Keep Pushin' On was another toe-tapper that I enjoyed. But, I saw them in-concert once and that was enough for me to write them off. While they sounded good when playing, Kevin Cronin ruined the night with his incessant chatter between songs. We were literally yelling shut-up as he time and time again, ground the momentum to a halt. In the end, REO is and was, a band that I liked before I knew what good music was all about. Mark

underated band. they put out some good rock.

I'm afraid there is nothing special about REO Speedwagon. Some of the band's songs were catchy enough, and the group did release at least three full-length efforts of note (ie "Ridin' The Storm Out" (1974), "You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish" (1978), and "Hi Infidelity" (1980); however, in the end, REO was neither influential nor particularly talented in comparison with most of the other competitors on this list. A guilty pleasure for some, nostalgic for others, forgettable for most.

If you like your bands middle-of-the-road mediocre and your male singers neutered, you'll find songs of theirs to like. Time hasn't made me any more nostalgic, however.

REO Speedwagon are mistaken for hard rock, kind of like how Styx are mistaken for hard rock. Just because the guitars are loud does not make bands like this in any way hard. So stop calling them hard rock. They are pansies who managed do well in the early eighties which was one of the worst eras for mainstream rock ever. I would rather staple my hand to a table than listen to tripe like this.
danny784 04/10/2002
This band is one of the best ever. bottom line!!!
ellajedlicka21 01/04/2002
Arena rock crap. Horrible band.
Terrky 01/02/2002
yeah, i really like REO, but... on here it says "the soft rock band's songs..." REO is (or was) hard rock. songs like golden country, and ridin the storm out. these guys are ROCKERS and still are!
afterglow70 06/16/2001
The music wasn't all that bad, it was Kevin Cronin! His voice was whiny and just gave me the shakes when I would hear him sing (like fingernails on a chalkboard).

I remember ordering "High Infidelity" when I was 11 years-old and doing Columbia House record club for the first time. Even then, I realized this band sucked. I don't imagine the last 20 years have been kind to them...

Ohhhhh....I LOVE THIS BAND! ~singin~ "And I can't fight this feeeeeling anymoooorrrreeeee...I forgotten what I've started fightin forrr......"

REO Speedwagon is like a fine wine... getting better and better with each passing year. My best friend in 6th grade introduced me to REO; they took awhile to grow on me, but I don't regret a single purchase or solitary moment blasting them on my stereo!!! "Roll With the Changes" still gives me goose-bumps! Their best album was probably their most under-rated: LIFE AS WE KNOW IT from 1987. Listen to "Variety Tonight," with its soul-sister "make ya feel right/honey if you want it..." line running like a riptide just beneath Kevin Cronin's lead vocal... its a rock & roll masterpiece! The album THE EARTH, A SMALL MAN, HIS DOG, AND A CHICKEN (1990) is a standout... "Live It Up" & "You Won't See Me" both rock, and "Go For Broke" is scorching!!! REO Speedwagon rocks!
