Saw the same episode where the brick was thrown through the victims car window. The entire time, Judge Mathis continuously badgered the victim as to why he didn't ask why the brick was thrown at him. Judge Mathis then went on to "help" the perpetrator get his record expunged, and unbelievably gave him money for "emotional stress". What a complete joke in itself. Now let's throw in the fact that the victim was white, and the defendant was black. This case alone speaks volumes of Judge Mathis unprofessional, biased, ignorance!!!!! Complete joke to the judicial system and should be de-benched...if there is such a word. And have you ever noticed that if ANYONE was a stripper, whether it had to do with the case or not, he would make an issue out of it, and talk about it needlessly. Again, he is nothing but a ghetto perv, with no class or morals to speak of!!

I cant believe what people are writting here! Judge Mathis is an inspiration to all of us! He has been there and pulled himself up out of it! We all should share his determination! His decision depends completely on his mood or his personal likes/dislikes.
Sometimes he can sit and spend a lot of time telling his stupid stories which have nothing to do with the case. Sometimes he can just interrupt people and don't allow them to finish a sentence like he is in big hurry.
In most of the cases he is very rude and acts like he is a god.

Several times he just dismissed the case without any warning just because he thought that a defendant didn't respect him.
He is never prepared to the case he read the case papers to have an idea what it is about like all other judges do.

Just watched an episode and there is no question he is a racist. The defendant was black and the plaintiff was white. The defendant claimed his friend threw a brick at the plaintiffs car and not him, but he had plead guilty in criminal court. The judge asked the plaintiff why the defendant threw the brick. He said he did not know. Judge Mathis concluded that the plaintiff must have done something to make the defendant throw the brick so he awarded the defendant a $1500 counter suit for emotional distress because he had to find for the plaintiff since the defendant had plead guilty in criminal court. The plaintiff was awarded $2500 in damages but much of that was offset by the counter claim. How can he find for the plaintiff and then give the defendant money for emotional distress? What about emotional distress of having a brick come through your car window. Of course he took out some time to make fun of the white guy and to give the black guy advise on having the criminal charges expunged.

Lesson learned: If you are black you can commit random acts of violence against white people and Judge Mathis will reward you $1,500 for your trouble.

I think Judge Mathis is a joke. He constantly interrupts people to say irrelevant, stupid things. For instance, whenever someone mentions Florida he has to list every single member of his family who lives there...um, WHO CARES?!. He thinks he's funny when he uses slang and tries to sound all ghetto, when it really just makes him look like an idiot. I mean, what kind of judge talks like that in a court room? People say, "It's just a TV show...don't take it so seriously." Well, then why do they emphasize the fact that the cases are real? From what I have seen, his decisions are certainly not based on fact. He tries to trip people up and say they're contradicting themselves when they have just simply forgotten things like exact dates (like HUMAN BEINGS will do!), or if they just trip over their words slightly (like HUMAN BEINGS will do, especially if they are nervous!). It's like he's just wishing and waiting for the chance to say something like, "See now, you said it was the 16th of May a minute ago... Now you're saying it was the 17th of May--So, now I can't believe your testimony. Your case is dismissed!" I can see if an exact date was a mitigating factor in the case, but usually he just throws out cases because of simple human error when speaking.. I can't stand his show. I watch it BECAUSE I hate it sooo much. I like to yell at the screen and make fun of all his ignorant comments and decisions. Now, the People's Court is the show I like. That judge actually knows her stuff. She doesn't bulls**t and she actually bases her decisions on the LAW (duh!). Judge Mathis oughtta take some lessons from her. Idiot!

Judge Mathis has a great sense of humor and a kind heart. Don't mistake his kindness for being a push over. He doesn't tolerate any disrespect, a eye roll or lie will get you thrown out of his court room. His bailiff Doyle and him are great together, sometimes it feels more like "the Greg & Doyle comedy hour." It's a very entertaining show!

This is THE worst judge show of them all! He makes up his mind before the trial starts. He berates some of the defendants. He makes fun of people if they don't act the way he thinks they should. He makes a travesty of justice as his decisions are based on emotion rather than facts. It is obvious he wants all the juicy background for ratings even when it has nothing to do with the case. He thinks that people that don't get along with their parents, or aren't Christian have problems. Every person who has problems with their parents lose. I want to like this show as I like his background and how he made something of himself, but if I will never watch this show again, I have had enough of him making a mockery of the judical system.

I like Judge Mathis. He is funny. I like to hear the wisdom he speaks sometimes and the humor. Sometimes however, he annoys me. He gets flustered and aggravated and becomes antagonistic. Seems his judgement becomes cloudy when this happens. Then other times it seems he misunderstands what a person is saying and acts as if they are trying to defraud the court. I do believe that sometimes people do try to defraud the court. However in these instances it is like he really misinterprets what is happening. Also, he was an attorney first. I know he is an intelligent man. I would prefer him to use more professional talk sometimes and actually not relish in discussion about knowing "the game" and all that. That is a part of his past. And besides, he doesn't know every "game" that is out there.

If you watch enough episodes of this program you'll be able to pick up on the patterns. If you disagree with what i say, please look closely for yourself. Most of the time "Judge Mathis" has already made up his mind before the case has started. He works to manipulate the statements of the people in his courtroom. He helps the people he has chosen to win by paraphrasing for them or making their argument on their behalf. If he decided you're going to lose then he works to make you say the magic words he needs to make you lose your case. So the pattern i mentioned earlier is that some categories of people will always lose to others.  Young people will lose to older people. When people are of like ages, men will lose to women. When there are two female litigants, the trashier or least civilized acting female will win. If there are two male litigants, they are just as likely to have both their cases laughed out of his "courtroom" as they either is likely to win a judgement. The exceptions to this pattern are people who were in trouble with the law and now seem to have cleaned up their act.  If a litigant can convince him that they fall into that category they can win against any other group. Another wildcard are people he used to categorize as "freaky- deaky"If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself. He used to only joke and smiles with his chosen losers when he wants to trick them into saying something detrimental to their case. If a women says a man abused her she almost never has to prove it her word is enough. What passes for his meeting the "legal burden" in one case doesn't apply when he doesn't want you to win. As I wind up this horribly long narrative, I have been playing the most recent episode of Judge Mathis it aired on Friday Dec 12th.  The very first case has a woman suing a man. I thought the "judge" was going to make a liar out of me because her case started out very badly and it looked like the man was going to win. "Judge Mathis" did not fail to disappoint though, he made her case for her and gave her the benefit of the doubt but not the guy. So we're clear although I hate "Judge Mathis" and think he is absolutely full of crap, i have been watching regularly for well over 5 years .

What some of you may not realize is that the judge Mathis show (only show I can speak of from experience) is semi-scripted. the litigants (contestants) are given specific things to say. The people are real and believe they are going there to have a real court case before a judge but are often railroaded. They choose who they want to win long before the case is in his court room. The whole show is a scam. Meant purely for Entertainment. They should just let the litigants know this ahead of time.

Judge Mathis needs to be de-benched. Not only because he is racist, but because he does not judge fairly from case to case. It is almost as if his mood of the day will dictate the results of the case. I have seen him award the full $5000 when the person deserved nothing, and seen him award $0 (and hell, maybe even a countersuite judgement for the other side) when it clearly was in favor to award.

This man should be taken off the air if he cannot be removed from the bench. It is terrible to know that this kind of ignorance is being propogated on a nationally syndiacated TV program and accepted as "quality" by whomever is in charge of that at CW Corporate.

A fun and entertaining courtroom show. It's a tv show people! If people are dumb enough to go on national television and look like morons it is their own fault. I think the producers select people who are of marginal intelligence, strange looking, or on drugs. It makes for an entertaining program. Relax, have fun, and if you want a real education in the law,  go sit in a real courtroom or better yet become a juror.

I just saw another episode of Mathis and I can't believe this judge. He basically condoned violence too on national tv. There was a lady that someone accused her of saying n**ger and threw this woman on the train tracks. She sued for $5,000 and got her money but the lady that accused her of saying the word (who was white) got a counter claim for $5,000 for emotional distress. So basically the lady that was thrown onto the tracks gets nothing. He basically told this nation that if someone calls you names you have the right to try to kill them because that is what it was, attempted murder, Judge Mathis even said it. His decision was soley personal and that is not professional at all. It does not matter what anyone calls you, those are words, you should fight back with the same, words! Not violently, by throwing on train tracks. This was his worst judgment yet. I don't know any other judge in this country who would make that judgment.

I think he is a terrible judge. I was watching this one episode where he said this woman if she was a criminal. AT first she would not admit, then the judge said you and I both have a criminal record, so that's nothing to be ashamed of. Just admit it. He tries to be funny instead of being factual. He keeps interrupting the people and not listening to them at all. His questions are stupid. He is not fit to be a judge in my opinion.

Pretty entertaining. I don't know how much real law takes place but I think it's funny to watch. Mostly the predicaments that people get into carry the show. Some are unbelievable. I don't understand how he comes to his decisions. He's not the best but I don't think he is the worst.

I don't care too much for Mathis. He's entertaining, but rarely ever uses "legal" authority when deciding a case. He is very judgmental and a disgrace to his chair. I don't think he's racist, I just think he's extremely egotistical and I don't like watching him because of it! He's contradictory and doesn't use the same rules twice in his court room. Here's just one example of why I don't like him:
I was watching an episode today where a man allowed his girlfriend/former drug addict to move in - they didn't get a long, they had a fight, he went to jail, he got out and some of his belongings were gone. You could clearly tell the woman was lying and the man was telling the truth...The man had written statements from witness', his neighbors, saying they saw her packing things out of the house after he went to jail. Mathis would not use the statements because the guy didn't have the police talk to the witness' when he made the police report after he had gotten out of jail; therefore Mathies denied judgment in favor of th man on his counterclaim. ---- The very next episode, a woman sued her daughters ex boyfriend for damage to her home and car while they (parents) were out of town. The woman said she left the boy in charge at the homeand had a written statement from a neighbor (same as the guy before)stating the kids were shooting guns, smoking, drinking, etc.. Mathis based his whole judgment on this written statement and awarded the woman $5K because he didn't think the neighbor would have a reason to lie. In this case a police report was also filed by the parents/plaintiffs when they returned from vacation, and guess what... they DID NOT have the police to go speak with the neighbor, but that didn't matter here, although that was the sole reason for denial in the prior case. Furthermore, there were a few incidents where Mathis put words in the womans mouth and also in the boys mouth. ------ The boy said his girlfriends father punched her in the face, so the boy told the father if he did it again, he (the boy) was going to call the police or CPS, Mathis told him "what you really meant is that you were going to deal with the father yourself" - the boy said nothing of the sort. Mathis asked the woman why her neighbor didn't call the police when she seen them shooting guns, the woman said she didn't know.. Mathis then told her "you mean she saw them shooting bb guns, right - that must be why she didn't call the police."... All in all, I disagreed with this judgment as well. The boy had very believable testimony and there were a few times when Mathis caught the parents trying to hide certain things or not being so honest.. But again, this didn't matter. He gave judgment to who wanted to give it to.

This Racist is a disgrace. If you are white and are suing a minority, do not go before this moron you will lose no matter what the facts are. He treats white people like trash.

I will never watch his show again as an abused child by mother. the case where an adult was complaining about his mother beating him at 6 ,and th4e judge not even hearing him and matter of fact stating he probably needed beating by a metal broom. Saw it for the first time today, and I normally don't watch these types of shows (Court TV). WOW, this guy is clearly racist and I believe he doesn't even know it because he follows the classic example that if you are black, you can't be racist.

Comments saying he'd rather all white people change their pigmentation color to be black so evryone would be the same is clear to me where he stands.

It seems to me that the opinions are split just like the OJ Simpson verdict.
